The Big Chill

What's everyone's plans for the big winter storm? Expected to be in the single digits here tonight and tomorrow, so staying bundled up inside. Picked up my crazy pills so I wouldn't have to go out this weekend.

It's been a crazy-cool December here too.  We've been regularly getting nights where it gets down to 60 and most days don't rise above 80.  That's not very "December" for us.  My coping strategy is to leave the AC switched off and I probably won't bother uncovering the pool until Christmas day.  That's how I'll hunker down ?

Christmas day forecast here is a low of 70 and a high of 85 with showers and a possible afternoon thunderstorm...

Cuddling inside with my Wife and my Daddy. We did all the grocery shopping so it will be movies, cuddles, fireplace and just spending time together ❤️ ?

Nothing quite like warm cuddles with loved ones. They'll probably put me into a diaper and a sleeper but I'll see if I can talk my way out of it ?

Cold weather is the perfect time to do some baking.   Cookies anyone? Definitely some banana bread happening. Plans to do a rib roast as well.  It'll be the first time I've ever attempted it.

But.... as fate would have it, I have a repair to make on my truck (coolant leak from the thermostat).  It's raining buckets right now (plus it's really dark!) and will be raining more tomorrow.  If I'm lucky, I'll get a break tomorrow while it's still daylight so I'm not having to do it on Saturday or Sunday.  And hopefully the $4 gasket I just picked up fixes it.  If not, then I'm looking at a water pump replacement.

Still warming up here its at 40 and light rain, right now, I hope it stops raining to give roads a chance to dry before the cold snap.

Today started  off cold enough to get us 5 inches (ca. 13 cm), of fluffy wet snow.

Snow means a few hours of snow plow work for me, I like to clear my friends and neighbors driveways, I have been plowing for my neighbors for the last 20 years

The big cold comes tomorrow night, national weather says 1, tomorrow night where I live you knock off 10 degrees.

Tomorrow night is shaping up to be a double footed sleeper, 2 blanket and a quilt, night for me.

I stocked up on beer, food and a few other things and covered my bases as it is to drop rapidly overnight where I live- from 40s to single digit temps and we are to have what is known as a flash freeze here- my plans are to stay home and stay warm and hope for the best I do not lose power and I am in the midst of getting over a cold as well.  We are not going to get much snow as we got earlier in 2022 but enough where it is tolerable for me and I can go out after Christmas Day.   I do not deal with the cold very well so I am staying home and hoping for the best.

I am hoping everyone stays safe, stays warm, and also has a wonderful and Merry Christmas weekend no matter where you are!

Its not a storm until house shakes or we get snowed in.

What Americans call a storm, we call normal weather.
I have clicked on many Youtube videos where they say they are camping in a snow storm, but its just snowing.. no storm, and not that much snow.

We had 40 cm snow during the night a while back, but still not a storm, just lots of snow.

It recently was -23 Celsius outside (-10F), and +20C inside.

I do whatever I do rest of the year.
Snow doesn't stop anything.

@oznl: I thought Australia use Celsius not Fahrenheit.  That's very warm (in Celsius)...  <GRIN>  Thanks for the US (Fahrenheit) translation.....

well im gonna miss making my run to the post office, because i stop and get a fountain drink at the gas station, but we are stocked up on some gas, i filled the car tank, and got about 4 or 5 gallons for the generator, i got a 2nd drink tonight just incase it gets ugly friday, my plans are to just take care of my mom, waste time on thinking of my dumbass carpentry book no one will read(not really planning on it, just likely to happen anyway so i figured count on it), wonder why i put all that text in it in the first place since its a waste of time, play runescape(old school, im on a bond, hey anyone wanna try it out, and help me out too? let me refer you), maybe we will watch some star trek picard since we have access to paramount until the walfart plus membership is cancelled, or just continue watching heroes(me want that serum!!!!!, and peter petrellis original power but id happily settle for mr lindermans power)

Waiting to see if the predicted freezing rain happens, getting my web surfing done while I have light (and heat). I'm in a part of western WA where it's difficult enough to predict snow let alone freezing rain, which we've had about twice in my 55 years of living here.

I've spent so much time in the US for work over the decades I've become bilingual ?

Left work at 3pm yesterday, was about 33 degrees and lightly snowing.  Dropped to 22 when I went to bed about 9:15pm.  Got up at 5:30am and it was 6 degrees out snowing and blowing but not heavy snow.  Right along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan they say we are getting hit the worst due to lake effect snow.  Predicted for about 16 inches of snow.  Blizzard warning is out until 1pm Saturday.  Have to go out to the store to pick up an order, then staying in.  I do have 4 wheel drive but the worry is the blowing snow and supposed 50MPH winds that are predicted.  Have gas for the generator because we always seem to be the ones to lose power when all the neighborhoods around us still have it.  It will be a bitch trying to start a generator in 6 degree weather with wind chills predicted to be 30 below.  Hope the pull cord isn't frozen.  One of these days I'll have to get an electric starter for the generator....  Oh, wait!  That won't work!  LOL

my generator has a pull cord and a switch/button thing, flick a switch and hold in a button and it starts up(sometimes i have to hold it twice but it starts)

Driving tomorrow about an hour to a casino that has a huge pool and the indoor temp is around 80.  Will be at the pool just about all day.  Wonder if they will have the chocolate fountain at the buffet (not that I care).  We will be there for a couple days

I kind of made a bit of a joke about the whole winter storm thing but weather is one of my hobbies and I'm only just now looking at some of the meteorological telemetry out of parts of the USA and Canada and it looks completely insane!  Some temperature and wind chill WAY outside my lived experience and stuff I can only imagine to be lethal with incorrect clothing and location.  Stay safe!

-1F here with a windchill of -24.  I stayed inside all day. I got a little bit of writing done but none as much as I wanted because some of the casual games I like to play have their Christmas events going this week. I did get another chapter of Naughy Christmas done so I'm feeling somewhat productive! I have more hand written in my notebook; I just have a few more scenes then the rough draft will be complete. Yay! And tomorrow is last minute baking with my sibling.

Hopefully the gasket will fix your leak. Usually gasket 'stats don't leak unless there is something that shifted the gasket / mating plates damaged / scored, is the thermostat OK as changing a water pump normally involves timing belt end of engine... and a lot more hassle. My own car's thust bearing has got noisy with clutch down = left half shaft & gearbox out, and replacement = full 3 part clutch replacement while clutch open - but that will have to wait till mid Jan 2023.

To All ABDLs in the US

Stay indoors, diapers and footed sleepers, and stay safe and warm. Keep out of that wind chill, which from what I have seen on world weather is supposed to get well below freezing. Those on LPG heating, be careful as the temperature seems to be dropping low enough to freeze that fuel. LNG is liquid at -160. -20 or less tempratures can drop that further to -180 and freeze LPG
