    • Noticing Samuel’s shyness, Lily gently took one of his hands and lightly drew patterns on it, softly saying “Round and round the garden…went the teddy bear…one step…two step…tickle you under there!” She said, tickling very softly under his chin. “It’s okay, Sammy. Just focus on the sound of my voice. I’ll keep drawing some pictures on your hand,” she said in a soothing voice. “Have you ever been to an aquarium before? They have lots of fishies there. Do you know about some of the kinds of animals that live in the ocean, rivers, or lakes?”  She kept talking to the boy to take his mind off his nervous feelings, drawing patterns upon his hand the whole time, since it usually felt nice and could help him relax. “Do you like your new phone? It says ‘Samuel’ on there. Do you know how to spell your name? I’ll tell you. It’s an S…then an A…” slowly, she began to spell the letters out, drawing each letter on his hand with her fingertip.  ===================================== Castile hung up the phone and looked at Aurora, who was being so good in her car seat beside him. “Well, we’re in luck, Princess. I was able to get us the good seats at the front and we can stay after the show is over to get up close and pat the dolphins,” he told her, knowing she would love that. “They’ll play with you and do some tricks, too. The dolphin trainers will be there to help us”.  He looked at the Disney Princess bandaid on her left hand. “I think that can probably come off, now. You went to the nurse the other day. It should be all better by now,” he said. “Want me to rip it off at the count of three?” he offered the little girl, knowing that peeling off a sticky plaster hurt more if you did it slowly. Samuel still had his Mickey Mouse bandaid on his left hand, as well.  ====================================== Nanny Lyn looked up to the front of the van, waving in response to Castile’s greeting. “Good morning, Castile! Good morning, everyone! Yes, I’m sure Ry is very excited. We made it just in time for the trip today. I have a separate stroller I can use for him, since he’ll need something bigger than the double stroller you guys will be using. And Mr Balverk got us a Bluey diaper bag to bring too. By the way, doesn’t he look so dashing in his adorable Sailor Suit?” she cooed, grinning as she looked at the big baby beside her and took out her phone, snapping a picture.  “I’ll get more photos at the aquarium,” she told Ry. “It’s a place where they have lots of animals that live in the water, mostly the ocean but also some freshwater species. There are lots of kinds of fish, manta rays, sharks, octopus, eels, sea snakes and many other creatures”.  She smiled when he exclaimed how cool his phone was. “I’m glad you like it. It even has your name on the side in black letters, so we know it belongs to Ry, and won’t get mixed up with Samuel’s”.  The nanny gently rubbed the large dragon boy’s knee, hoping to settle his nerves. She looked confused at the question he sent her way.  “Game store? I don’t know if there'll be a game store at the aquarium, Sweetie. Maybe there’s one nearby there. Anyway, yes, we’ll have a look and see if there’s any games you want, but I will say that the manor already has a full gaming room with all types of consoles and five TVs. Mr Balverk might already have the newest games in stock,” she explained kindly. “But we can have a look”. She watched his tail wagging like a puppy’s and tried to stay out of the way so she wouldn’t get hit by it. She was glad to see him in a good mood though.  ====================================== Mr Goodie looked back, doing a final check that everyone was present and had their seatbelts on. “Everyone ready? Alright then, here we go!” the cheerful man said, starting the van and beginning to drive down the manor’s long driveway then finally, out of the gates, entering the main streets. The aquarium was probably a 20 minute drive away. Scenery passed them by, becoming more full of suburban buildings and areas the further into town they travelled.  Mr Goodie put the kids’ radio on and The Wheels on the Bus began playing.  ====================================== Mr Balverk knew Savannah was due to start today. He told the gate guard to let her in and she was soon buzzed in, the gate swinging open to permit her entry. Once she walked all the way up the long driveway, past the flower covered graves, to the front door, he opened the door and greeted her.  “Good morning, Miss Savannah. It’s lovely to have a new nanny join us. Welcome to Balverk Manor, or as we call it ‘The House of the Lost’. Please, come to my office,” he invited, before leading the way.  Mr Balverk sat down and grabbed a box full of things, pushing it across the desk towards the new nanny.  “I hope you’ll enjoy being a part of the family here. We are getting new children all the time, so I’m sure you’ll be assigned a child soon. This is your new employee starter kit. It contains a tablet which has the staff handbook app, where you’ll find most of what you need. You’ll also find the help icon on the tablet full of useful information. I’ve given you a staff ID and a swipe card, as well as keys to the Woodland apartments - number 102. They are made for those of non-human nature. We currently have a cat taur staying in apartment 101, right next door to yours. Your three dot key card will allow you to go to places the regular humans do not get to see. For now, you can use a spare uniform but please do visit the tailor so he can measure and fit you and make uniforms to your liking. Inside the box is also a map of the manor, in case you need a bit of help finding your way around,” the man finished speaking. "Any questions?”  ===================================== Outside of the manor, a chubby, short, 5 year old boy with tan skin and rosy cheeks waddled up to the gates, having just ran away from his captor in the town. He was a bright burst of colour against the late spring background. He had two large, feathered wings displaying feathers of green, blue and red, in that order, each one being a layer. They looked like angel wings but were in fact, parrot wings. His soft, fluffy hair was red bangs at the front, then green in the middle and then a patch of bright blue at the back and his eyes were a brilliant emerald. He was clutching a paper flyer advertising the ‘House of the Lost’ as he stood on tiptoes to ring the bell for the gate. He seemed dirty and a bit rumpled, out of breath. There were dirt and grass stains on his clothes and twigs and leaves in his hair.  When the gate guard talked to him, he spoke up, seeming a bit desperate and jumpy. “Hi! My name is Peach Loveberry! Can I come in? I heard this place was a safe haven! I'm a lovebird!” he told the guard, who let him in.  Peach then began to jog down the long driveway, panting and puffing by the time he made his way to the front door. He knocked on it and a maid came and let him in, leading him to the nurses’ station to begin the intake process. Nurse Lacey, the lady with light blue hair and yellow eyes, took him in and began to do the tests and ask him questions, taking his blood pressure, height, weight, age, and other information. Peach just sat there and did whatever she told him, too puffed from the long driveway to talk much. He was very unfit after being in that horrible woman’s house, locked inside a big cage for two years and fed mostly junk food while forced to entertain the woman and her guests. Before that, he had run away from a lab in a tropical country. People just kept kidnapping him and locking him in cages!
