  1. I have been going to a urologist for decades now and early this year, was advised to do a laser reduction of my prostrate due to increased PSA values and other issues. He told me after the procedure, that he had to remove much more of it than anticipated Long story shortened, it left me with a situation requiring daily good protection for about three months, and a night time wetting problem far worse than I ever had, that has me now in cloth diapers nightly to avoid leaks, and a slow recovery of feelings of going at night, something my wife tells me is related to my use of these thick diapers at night, rather that the effects of removing most of my prostrate? Well, my PSA numbers are the lowest I have ever seen, I am able to get by with heavy day time pads, but am certainly a certified bed wetter as opposed to occasional, but it could be worse, as this cancer in males is nothing to mess around with!!
  2. My wife thinks that I should switch back to pullups at night so that I can get to the bathroom to pee if I wake up with that needing to go feeling. Even while I do use this method when traveling, I explained to her that as a result I have a poor nights sleep as am constantly waking up with the slightest urge to go, and typically make multiple trips into the bathroom to keep my pullup dry. ( I did get some really good overnight ones, but just recently as we are going on a cruise early next year and plan to use them for that) When I pin my cloth diapers on for a night, I do not plan to go into a bathroom as they are too difficult to get off and back on properly, so I just roll over and wet if I wake with that feeling, not always the case when diapered as mentioned I sleep much better and deeper when diapered. My wife doesn't understand this exactly, as she is also up several times for the bathroom, and always complains about how poor she sleeps. I should add that I have had a CPAP system for decades now, and my doctor tells me that the best thing for me is a good sound nights sleep, so that is why she has little to argue about me using diapers at night. At some point, I hope she understands that maybe that would be the best thing for her as well??
  3. After switching to cloth at night, about 6-7 months ago, I was not concerned about a rash as never had one using disposables. Within a few weeks, that changed when I started to wake up with a bit of an issue. I started to use a good strong diaper rash cream and soon forgot about this problem. Fast forward to now, I seldom use this rash cream as my skin seems to have gotten used to wet night time diapers. When I wake up, always in a wet, sometimes soaked diaper, I go into my office and do computer time for an hour or so prior to doing my bathroom routine, which involves my daily shower and rinsing out my night time protection in the shower before it goes into my pail prior to laundry. Point is, as advised by a friend of mine, who has been using diapers a lot longer than I have, he said that "your skin will become accustomed to being in this wet environment, but avoid staying in a messy diaper for long, and continue to drink a lot of water even in the evening to keep your urine from getting concentrated." Wise words!!
  4. I would think that now that she knows how much better she can sleep with protection on, that she will also realize that the small leak she experienced was because she needs something better than the goodnight and will actually accept that and go shopping for the appropriate night time diapers for her.
  5. I have had two medical procedures in past month, and in each case was very open with nurses, not to mention my medical charts with these locations clearly list my incontinence. In first case of MRI, I wore a thick pullup to appointment and nurse insured that I got into the bathroom prior to and immediately after the process, not to mention the extra pad under me going into the machine. This last procedure, my colonoscopy involved removal of my pullup, but also a quick trip to potty prior to and after the process with another chux under me through the procedure. In every case, I advised the nurse attending that I would probably dribble during the procedure, and they assured me that was very common anymore, and not to worry as I was covered from harming any equipment in any case.
  6. I switched to cloth diapers about 8 mos ago and don't worry much about leaks anymore as the cloth is so much better at wicking moisture up than the disposables I have used. My only concern is getting enough diaper on in the evening to avoid getting completely saturated, which than can leak if the plastic pants are not perfect in the legs and waist.
  7. My first knee surgery was done with a catheter in and only removed after the first day in bed, when I could get up again to use the bathroom. It took me several days to recover from the catheter and I was not happy about that. I had my second knee done about a year latter and specified that I did not want a catheter used again because of problems I had in past, that I was fine with diapers, and that is what I got, even as they were not very good ones but the nurses got me changed as soon as I wet even a bit. Once I was able to get up and around again, the nurses made sure that I had a bathroom trip first thing out of bed and last thing before going back into bed. Much better experience than first time around!
  8. Had to do a MRI earlier this month and as a precaution, wore a heavy duty pull up which I told the nurse about when I arrived. Of course she had seen my medical chart which listed IC on it as well as my other problems so she was prepared with a chux for the MRI table. When getting undressed, she told me to leave my pants on less my belt and anything in my pockets, so I told her the chux was not necessary as I had no other pants to wear home if they got peed on but still was concerned and was wanting me to lie on it in any case. Not sure why she wanted me to keep my pants on as I had on a hospital gown as well? As a precaution, she had me in the potty just prior to going to the test room, and as I was coming off the table at the end, same thing. Even as it went over an hour, all these precautions kept my pull up dry, and she gave me a thumbs up for a "job well done" at the end. I have to admit, I was really ready for the toilet when I came out of the test, glad it didn't go 15 min more or I may not have gotten the complement at the end!
  9. I found out a couple of weeks ago that your diaper covers are really important if you need to keep your bedding dry. As mentioned prior, I have gone to cloth overnight diapers earlier this year, and have been using some heavy duty covers that I have had for some time. Unfortunately they don't last forever, and even as the plastic hasn't cracked, the elastic will wear out and as a result, you will get a wet bed if sleeping on your side IE; replace these as needed and avoid the wrath of an unhappy wife washing bedding. There are some great choices now with the urethane covers and the longer leg higher waist versions of plastic and they are not that expensive when considering the peace of mind and happy wife cost!
  10. Last night I had a bad leak, probably while sleeping on my side. I was in one of my pre-fold overnight cloth diapers with a PUL cover on, but I find that these covers tend to move down during the night, probably what happened allowing the leak. Wife was not happy this morning washing the bedding, and I got the lecture about not having any alcohol at night, only had a couple drinks prior to dinner? In any event, I dug out my leakmaster high waist plastic covers again, telling her that I will wear these again as they are much higher in the waist, even as they are noisy and a fair bit warmer. As this was my first major leak in several years, I thought that the cloth diapers made the difference, but now believe it is a proper waterproof pantie that is the answer.
  11. Wow, I hope this info doesn't get too public or there will be a few guys sent there by their spiteful wives for punishment I suspect?
  12. After my last and most significant prostrate surgery, I found that my night time wetting was much more significant and after a few close calls with what I had been using, Tena Ultra, I switched over to cloth overnight weight diapers and have some soaker pads for nights where I might be extra wet, such as having a few beers late afternoon or in the evening. Of course I have a waterproof panty over that top and even on those mornings that I roll out of bed soaked, my bed is still dry, something I have promised my wife I would work to assure her of. Last point I wanted to address, when my feet hit the floor, whatever is left in my bladder hits my diaper but when I am up, there is plenty of space left it seems, so I can still have my morning coffee prior to hitting the shower, sitting around my computer in my soggy diaper.
  13. About 8-9 years ago, when I was still working, I had an accident at work, albeit it a small enough one to use toilet tissue to soak up the damage, and the hand dryer to dry of the front of my pants enough to continue on with the day. A short time after that, when traveling back home in the air I had another more serious accident, and after that another in the airport terminal attempting to get into a bathroom. In each case, I had to use my light jacket to cover my self as it was very visible and my drip pad that I was using was not adequate. That turned out to be from a UTI the doc told me, but started me off on several procedures with my urologist that really never corrected my problems totally, to the point that I now have a medical history of being a bedwetter and incontinent. These days my overnight protection is thick cloth diapers and waterproof cover, while my day time protection is a heavy duty pad, just in case I am not near enough to a potty when my need arrives. Thank goodness that I can go in a potty often enough during the day to avoid any more of the accident kind explained above!
  14. Early this year, prior to some prostrate surgery, I had to do a bladder filling, flow test to measure my bladder pressure when I urinate. Had to drink a large amount of water in the couple hours prior to the test, while trying to hold it. Of course I was wearing a good diaper while driving to the clinic, and was glad of it as I started the test prior to my arrival as I couldn't hold on any longer. When I got there, I advised the nurse of the same and they rushed me into the testing area to get the test underway while my bladder was still quite full. After getting the apparatus attached to me, and pushing me towards a large funnel to go into, I was struggling to get my little guy to come out of his shell and point in the right direction, and after a few minutes, one of the nurses got involved, coaxed him out ant kept him pointed while pressing on my bladder to do the test (Am sure I was not the first patient that was helped in this fashion as the nurse certainly knew how to manage me) The results of the test confirmed that I needed the prostrate reduction surgery which was the new laser method, after which I really needed my diapers, day and night, for the next 4 months until everything got back to normal again, so that I can now manage days using only heavy pads again. These nurses in the urology clinics certainly have seen it all, including getting peed on if they aren't careful but after a short learning curve, they learn to deal with any circumstance I am certain.
  15. I found out years ago that a combination of prostrate drugs I was given because of a family history of cancer in that area, had an impact on my hormone levels as well, and after an accelerated breast development, finding my male levels greatly reduced, my meds were switched but I continue to this day to take some of those "as a precaution" Since that time, my medical records reflect that I have ED, and my little guy is as you suggest like a turtle that is very hard to get to come out of its shell, and even if it does, certainly not far enough to be used for intended purposes again. Certainly I have added fat to my body as my tummy is proof of that, but I am certain that is not the only reason that I have been sitting to urinate for many years now, as my little turtle is impossible to point in the right direction to keep my pants from getting dribbled on in the process.
