I found out years ago that a combination of prostrate drugs I was given because of a family history of cancer in that area, had an impact on my hormone levels as well, and after an accelerated breast development, finding my male levels greatly reduced, my meds were switched but I continue to this day to take some of those "as a precaution" Since that time, my medical records reflect that I have ED, and my little guy is as you suggest like a turtle that is very hard to get to come out of its shell, and even if it does, certainly not far enough to be used for intended purposes again. Certainly I have added fat to my body as my tummy is proof of that, but I am certain that is not the only reason that I have been sitting to urinate for many years now, as my little turtle is impossible to point in the right direction to keep my pants from getting dribbled on in the process.

I am using up some disposables I have had for night use, prior to getting my cloth diapers early this year. Unfortunately, last night I had a reminder of why I went to cloth to begin with, as I had a leak while sleeping on my side, enough to get my night shirt wet on the side, and the bed sheets wet under me as well. Thank goodness I rolled over and noticed it in the night so that I could move away from it, allowing it to dry up by morning. Hope the wife doesn't notice a stain on the sheets or something.

Early in my career, I was on a traveling construction crew, and as one of the more senior guys already at that point, I was somewhat responsible for the crew. The work was hard, the days long, and sometimes the evenings involved lots of beer drinking. Some of the smaller towns we worked in did not have motels, so we would look for accommodations where we could find them, typically in the basement of a widows house. In one case, there were four of us staying at this location, several in bedrooms, and several on beds in a larger common room. One of these beds got peed on by a dude that we found out wet the bed if he had more that a couple of beers in the evening. Well this land lady had enough of this after the second event, and contacted the owner of our company and wanted a new mattress. She was told to turn it over and put a waterproof cover on it until we left the job and he would pay for the cover and a new mattress. That seemed to work and we tried to limit this workers beer consumption as well, but eventually it happened again, and I was confronted by her, telling me that she had extra laundry to do as a result, and we needed to get rid of that dude or she would get rid of us. Hatted to see him leave us as he was a good worker, but he was relegated to jobs that did not involve overnight stays, and eventually left us entirely. The point in this is that it does happen, and the people involved are not typically happy dealing with the results!!

As you said, you are a teacher and have trained your bladder to not "bother you" much during the day. Your body still has to do its job and produce urine, so night time wetting it will be, so if you want to sleep through the night, get used to becoming a bed wetter again, and if your protection is good enough, you certainly can learn to sleep all night with out worry or care.

wetting the bed for the first time as an adult?
deewet replied to fourtothefloor's topic in Bedwetters
Early this year I had a major Prostrate reduction surgery, and found that the recovery from it was long and had a negative impact on my bladder retention. Prior to this procedure, I would wear pullups or something to bed at night, and often wake up in the morning dry, with wetting only about 1 out of 6 or 8 nights. After the surgery, I was wetting every night and actually switched to night time cloth diapers to keep my bedding dry. It took all of 4-5 months to get my bladder back to where it should be as far as filling up completely before I have to get to a bathroom. I actually started to get back to pullups at night as well. A week ago, I had a yearly visit to my cardiologist, and when doing the pre visit check in, I noticed my medical history now listed "bedwetting". I was surprised, but guess I shouldn't have been as I was very open with my urologist, and he even gave me several medications to help with that issue, none of which actually worked it seemed at the time but were also in my records. Even though nothing was mentioned during my recent visit about this issue, I knew it was apparent to this doc as well, and now know why my GP asked me about my bladder control a month ago when I was in to see him. I told him than that I was doing much better during the day as my bladder is now filling avoiding the OAB issues, and able to make use of heavy pads in my underwear throughout the day just in case, as when it is full, I need to find a potty quickly as my urge incon is still there. The point in all of this is that with this now in my records, I have no desire any longer to avoid using good diapers at night, and just let it go if I feel the urge when I roll over, as opposed to getting up and heading to the bathroom in middle of the night trying to retrain my self at night to where I am during the day. -
I use a good quality well fitted PUL diaper cover over my night time protection which is absorbent enough to last me all night long. When I first started to use thick overnight cloth diapers, I used an extra vinyl cover over the PUL but found that was not necessary and did not allow the PUL to breath as it should. Years back when I still traveled and after I had my first bed wetting accident at home prior to diapering every night, I used a waterproof pad under my side of the bed, but after I started to use the PUL covers over all my diaper choices, I stopped using the pad.

To follow up with @Brian, I did not mean to imply that I was hiding the things that happened to me from my wife, as she was aware of my struggles over time, the accidents in airports, the dribbles, the doc visits, and the most recent results of the prostrate reduction surgery. In fact, she helped me decide to switch to reusable cloth diapers for night time use after that last surgery had me leaking like a broken faucet. She is in same boat as I am, working with a urologist to manage her dribbles as well. We shop for day time pads together for heavens sake! I will admit that I have never shared my younger years desire to try out diapers (that was about the time I became a teenager) but maybe some of these things don't need to be talked about?

What started out many years ago as a young person, with a desire to try out diapers and little opportunity to do so, led to a life that provided reasons to need and use protection as a regular part of daily life. Now my medical records show me as a "bedwetter" and "bladder incontinent" so there is nothing to hide any longer other than my protection products from the general public.

A bit off the topic but in the same category I believe? What is the best way to launder plastic (vinyl) diaper covers? After washing some covers (plastic and PUL) yesterday with the cotton white things in yesterdays wash, I noticed when hanging the diaper covers up to dry, that the plastic pants had a sour odor to them, even while all the other things in that wash smelled fresh and clean? This laundry was done in a newer front loader with the detergent rated for these machines (low foam) and a bit of oxyclean (none chlorine brightener) which is typical for our white washes. These diaper covers get damp wiped after every use, but go into laundry once a week typically. Not sure I noticed this in past, as on many occasions these are washed with some diapers as opposed to the white clothes. Any suggestions about what is happening here? Is it possibly the oxyclean reacted with the vinyl?

PUL pants are good for containing drips/leaks but they do smell a lot after getting wet, I use them nightly over my cloth diapers, and if the diaper becomes soaked, the PUL covers are in need of a very good wipe out in the morning with a soapy cloth which works for only a few cycles, and than into the washer. I like pads for the day as not only do they absorb the wet and keep your skin dry, but most do a great job of preventing odor!

I have faced this issue for several decades now, starting mid 50's Several prostrate surgery's since than but only gotten worse. I have resolved my pants wet issues by only sitting to urinate and waiting a bit after, and always wearing pads in my panties which I slide up immediately as I get off the pot. I still get hollered at by my girls if I do not take a tissue to the dribbles on front of the seat after getting up, but typically the bathroom floor stays dry if I am still wearing panties. Not so much if I am undressed to change into night clothes or get into the shower, but that is another issue.

CVS makes some good ones that are thick and bulky as you requested. The overnight version is actually wider at the bottom for better protection when reclined, but I use them as a male the opposite way as they provide a wider zone for my little guy to dribble into during the day as well.

I read with interest your history, and can relate to many parts of it myself. Before I retired, I was having bladder issues on occasion, and actually had several wetting incidents when traveling. Following that, I started to travel padded, and when in a hotel, always was padded and sleeping on a waterproof bed mat. At first I simply removed it when I got up for the day, but finally realized the the hotel staff would not care if I took this precaution, and in fact may be happy about it. From that point, on multiple day stays, I always found my bed pad made up on top of my sheets by the room attendants, and on one occasion, found a note on my desk with simply a happy face note on it? One of the things I started to do almost from the start was to use a diaper cover, as I felt more secure with it as I slept on my side, and even during the day, it helped keep my protection in place. I have used the Gary active wear products for many years now and strongly recommend them as an extra protection layer. Even today with my overnight issues becoming far worse due to health issues, I still use one of these over my now cloth overnight diapers, but have added a high rise plastic pant to insure my bedding doesn't get stained from rolling around in a soaked diaper, keeping my wife happy! Keep posting these updates, they are well written and fun to read!

Some years back, I believe it was four summers ago, I was working on a major house project on a really hot day, and that night I drank more than my share to not only celebrate the work on the project being behind me but to replenish my dried out body. That was the night that changed everything for me as during the night, I wet my bed for the first time since I was a child, and the following morning my wife was not happy to say the least. Since that event, I promised my wife that I would do whatever I needed to to avoid the bed wetting and I have moved through a series of different diapers and diaper covers to insure that. I found that the disposables that I tried tended to leak on occasion as I am a side sleeper. This year, after another prostrate surgery and more loss of feeling and higher rates of flow again, I moved into the cloth diaper choices and different diaper covers(high back larger plastic panties) and have not leaked since. Additionally I am sleeping now better that I can remember in a long while!!
