  1. Had to do a MRI earlier this month and as a precaution, wore a heavy duty pull up which I told the nurse about when I arrived. Of course she had seen my medical chart which listed IC on it as well as my other problems so she was prepared with a chux for the MRI table. When getting undressed, she told me to leave my pants on less my belt and anything in my pockets, so I told her the chux was not necessary as I had no other pants to wear home if they got peed on but still was concerned and was wanting me to lie on it in any case. Not sure why she wanted me to keep my pants on as I had on a hospital gown as well? As a precaution, she had me in the potty just prior to going to the test room, and as I was coming off the table at the end, same thing. Even as it went over an hour, all these precautions kept my pull up dry, and she gave me a thumbs up for a "job well done" at the end. I have to admit, I was really ready for the toilet when I came out of the test, glad it didn't go 15 min more or I may not have gotten the complement at the end!
  2. I found out a couple of weeks ago that your diaper covers are really important if you need to keep your bedding dry. As mentioned prior, I have gone to cloth overnight diapers earlier this year, and have been using some heavy duty covers that I have had for some time. Unfortunately they don't last forever, and even as the plastic hasn't cracked, the elastic will wear out and as a result, you will get a wet bed if sleeping on your side IE; replace these as needed and avoid the wrath of an unhappy wife washing bedding. There are some great choices now with the urethane covers and the longer leg higher waist versions of plastic and they are not that expensive when considering the peace of mind and happy wife cost!
  3. Last night I had a bad leak, probably while sleeping on my side. I was in one of my pre-fold overnight cloth diapers with a PUL cover on, but I find that these covers tend to move down during the night, probably what happened allowing the leak. Wife was not happy this morning washing the bedding, and I got the lecture about not having any alcohol at night, only had a couple drinks prior to dinner? In any event, I dug out my leakmaster high waist plastic covers again, telling her that I will wear these again as they are much higher in the waist, even as they are noisy and a fair bit warmer. As this was my first major leak in several years, I thought that the cloth diapers made the difference, but now believe it is a proper waterproof pantie that is the answer.
  4. Wow, I hope this info doesn't get too public or there will be a few guys sent there by their spiteful wives for punishment I suspect?
  5. After my last and most significant prostrate surgery, I found that my night time wetting was much more significant and after a few close calls with what I had been using, Tena Ultra, I switched over to cloth overnight weight diapers and have some soaker pads for nights where I might be extra wet, such as having a few beers late afternoon or in the evening. Of course I have a waterproof panty over that top and even on those mornings that I roll out of bed soaked, my bed is still dry, something I have promised my wife I would work to assure her of. Last point I wanted to address, when my feet hit the floor, whatever is left in my bladder hits my diaper but when I am up, there is plenty of space left it seems, so I can still have my morning coffee prior to hitting the shower, sitting around my computer in my soggy diaper.
  6. About 8-9 years ago, when I was still working, I had an accident at work, albeit it a small enough one to use toilet tissue to soak up the damage, and the hand dryer to dry of the front of my pants enough to continue on with the day. A short time after that, when traveling back home in the air I had another more serious accident, and after that another in the airport terminal attempting to get into a bathroom. In each case, I had to use my light jacket to cover my self as it was very visible and my drip pad that I was using was not adequate. That turned out to be from a UTI the doc told me, but started me off on several procedures with my urologist that really never corrected my problems totally, to the point that I now have a medical history of being a bedwetter and incontinent. These days my overnight protection is thick cloth diapers and waterproof cover, while my day time protection is a heavy duty pad, just in case I am not near enough to a potty when my need arrives. Thank goodness that I can go in a potty often enough during the day to avoid any more of the accident kind explained above!
  7. Early this year, prior to some prostrate surgery, I had to do a bladder filling, flow test to measure my bladder pressure when I urinate. Had to drink a large amount of water in the couple hours prior to the test, while trying to hold it. Of course I was wearing a good diaper while driving to the clinic, and was glad of it as I started the test prior to my arrival as I couldn't hold on any longer. When I got there, I advised the nurse of the same and they rushed me into the testing area to get the test underway while my bladder was still quite full. After getting the apparatus attached to me, and pushing me towards a large funnel to go into, I was struggling to get my little guy to come out of his shell and point in the right direction, and after a few minutes, one of the nurses got involved, coaxed him out ant kept him pointed while pressing on my bladder to do the test (Am sure I was not the first patient that was helped in this fashion as the nurse certainly knew how to manage me) The results of the test confirmed that I needed the prostrate reduction surgery which was the new laser method, after which I really needed my diapers, day and night, for the next 4 months until everything got back to normal again, so that I can now manage days using only heavy pads again. These nurses in the urology clinics certainly have seen it all, including getting peed on if they aren't careful but after a short learning curve, they learn to deal with any circumstance I am certain.
  8. I found out years ago that a combination of prostrate drugs I was given because of a family history of cancer in that area, had an impact on my hormone levels as well, and after an accelerated breast development, finding my male levels greatly reduced, my meds were switched but I continue to this day to take some of those "as a precaution" Since that time, my medical records reflect that I have ED, and my little guy is as you suggest like a turtle that is very hard to get to come out of its shell, and even if it does, certainly not far enough to be used for intended purposes again. Certainly I have added fat to my body as my tummy is proof of that, but I am certain that is not the only reason that I have been sitting to urinate for many years now, as my little turtle is impossible to point in the right direction to keep my pants from getting dribbled on in the process.
  9. I am using up some disposables I have had for night use, prior to getting my cloth diapers early this year. Unfortunately, last night I had a reminder of why I went to cloth to begin with, as I had a leak while sleeping on my side, enough to get my night shirt wet on the side, and the bed sheets wet under me as well. Thank goodness I rolled over and noticed it in the night so that I could move away from it, allowing it to dry up by morning. Hope the wife doesn't notice a stain on the sheets or something.
  10. Early in my career, I was on a traveling construction crew, and as one of the more senior guys already at that point, I was somewhat responsible for the crew. The work was hard, the days long, and sometimes the evenings involved lots of beer drinking. Some of the smaller towns we worked in did not have motels, so we would look for accommodations where we could find them, typically in the basement of a widows house. In one case, there were four of us staying at this location, several in bedrooms, and several on beds in a larger common room. One of these beds got peed on by a dude that we found out wet the bed if he had more that a couple of beers in the evening. Well this land lady had enough of this after the second event, and contacted the owner of our company and wanted a new mattress. She was told to turn it over and put a waterproof cover on it until we left the job and he would pay for the cover and a new mattress. That seemed to work and we tried to limit this workers beer consumption as well, but eventually it happened again, and I was confronted by her, telling me that she had extra laundry to do as a result, and we needed to get rid of that dude or she would get rid of us. Hatted to see him leave us as he was a good worker, but he was relegated to jobs that did not involve overnight stays, and eventually left us entirely. The point in this is that it does happen, and the people involved are not typically happy dealing with the results!!
  11. As you said, you are a teacher and have trained your bladder to not "bother you" much during the day. Your body still has to do its job and produce urine, so night time wetting it will be, so if you want to sleep through the night, get used to becoming a bed wetter again, and if your protection is good enough, you certainly can learn to sleep all night with out worry or care.
  12. Early this year I had a major Prostrate reduction surgery, and found that the recovery from it was long and had a negative impact on my bladder retention. Prior to this procedure, I would wear pullups or something to bed at night, and often wake up in the morning dry, with wetting only about 1 out of 6 or 8 nights. After the surgery, I was wetting every night and actually switched to night time cloth diapers to keep my bedding dry. It took all of 4-5 months to get my bladder back to where it should be as far as filling up completely before I have to get to a bathroom. I actually started to get back to pullups at night as well. A week ago, I had a yearly visit to my cardiologist, and when doing the pre visit check in, I noticed my medical history now listed "bedwetting". I was surprised, but guess I shouldn't have been as I was very open with my urologist, and he even gave me several medications to help with that issue, none of which actually worked it seemed at the time but were also in my records. Even though nothing was mentioned during my recent visit about this issue, I knew it was apparent to this doc as well, and now know why my GP asked me about my bladder control a month ago when I was in to see him. I told him than that I was doing much better during the day as my bladder is now filling avoiding the OAB issues, and able to make use of heavy pads in my underwear throughout the day just in case, as when it is full, I need to find a potty quickly as my urge incon is still there. The point in all of this is that with this now in my records, I have no desire any longer to avoid using good diapers at night, and just let it go if I feel the urge when I roll over, as opposed to getting up and heading to the bathroom in middle of the night trying to retrain my self at night to where I am during the day.
  13. I use a good quality well fitted PUL diaper cover over my night time protection which is absorbent enough to last me all night long. When I first started to use thick overnight cloth diapers, I used an extra vinyl cover over the PUL but found that was not necessary and did not allow the PUL to breath as it should. Years back when I still traveled and after I had my first bed wetting accident at home prior to diapering every night, I used a waterproof pad under my side of the bed, but after I started to use the PUL covers over all my diaper choices, I stopped using the pad.
  14. To follow up with @Brian, I did not mean to imply that I was hiding the things that happened to me from my wife, as she was aware of my struggles over time, the accidents in airports, the dribbles, the doc visits, and the most recent results of the prostrate reduction surgery. In fact, she helped me decide to switch to reusable cloth diapers for night time use after that last surgery had me leaking like a broken faucet. She is in same boat as I am, working with a urologist to manage her dribbles as well. We shop for day time pads together for heavens sake! I will admit that I have never shared my younger years desire to try out diapers (that was about the time I became a teenager) but maybe some of these things don't need to be talked about?
  15. What started out many years ago as a young person, with a desire to try out diapers and little opportunity to do so, led to a life that provided reasons to need and use protection as a regular part of daily life. Now my medical records show me as a "bedwetter" and "bladder incontinent" so there is nothing to hide any longer other than my protection products from the general public.
