Patreon's ABDL Purge

Recommended Posts

Today is a dark day for ABDL creators.

Patreon seem to be deleting the pages of every ABDL on Patreon. For many this is their livelihoods that are being summarily taken away. Whilst my page is still up I'm certain the axe will fall eventually. I was making enough to pay taxes here, it was my income, it's needed to pay bills. To have it go away is terrifying. I ligitimately have no idea what I'm going to do.

In the past 6 months or so I had been following like 30 different creators on there. I just checked and some I am/was a patreon of has been removed along with a few I hadn't had the money to sign up with again.

Is there an adult version of Patreon yet?

Sorry your all are having to go through this. I know from personal experience how much it sucks to loose years of recurring income when a processor shuts you down. Takes forever to rebuild.

The closest thing to this that I am aware of would be Subcribestar, but I'm saying that by seeing a lot of artists the do NSFW artwork link to that platform. If I am wrong about this, please correct me, as I don't want to be giving bad info if I can avoid it. I support a few ABDL artists on patreon, but there are some that don't seem to post much anymore. I don't know if this is due to patreon itself, or other factors, but it's sad to see people's livelihoods being axed because a few people don't like something.

Ream is a version of Patreon that's specifically for authors, (sorry, visual artists,) and which is erotica friendly. (I sent an email to their team and was told that ABDL is explicitly allowed!)

I've set up an account, and have a signup link for anyone else who wants to do the same:

I heard about the ABDL patreon Purge. This is definitely a black day for the community. My heart goes out to every ABDL content maker. And for many, these are their livelihoods being taken away, it's just very sad.

Is this the payment processors imposing their "biblical morality" again?

Certainly sounds like it. Just can't have nice things anymore since there's always someone trying to impose something.

This is a response to all the right-wing state governments across the US trying to ban sex outside of procreation by a married couple. Sites are afraid of getting shut down themselves, so they're being paranoid about what they allow.  Same exact overreaction as OnlyFans.

I am furious and deeply frustrated, in no small part because every story I followed had reached a really juicy point.

Fuck Patreon and their clunky 2007 interface. I truly hate that website.

Solidarity to the affected writers/artists. I hope every one lands somewhere safe soon (I know Personalias is setting up a SubscribeStar). I want to keep paying you for your work!

I feel bad for those who were depending on the Patreon platform for revenue or to share their creations and this is impacting many others beyond the ABDL community.   Patreon’s terms and conditions has language prohibiting pornography or fetish content and it seems they are focused on removing content they deem as harmful.   I don’t think this is a right-wing conspiracy or targeting one group or lifestyle.

I find it humorous that this now banned content was ignored or acceptable for so long.   I suspect they will suffer a financial hit.

There was obviously a market / customer base for this now banned content, there are alternatives and those platforms will benefit.   Still, not great for the creators that will have to rebuild their customer base and content distribution.

I'm delighted to see these authors knocked down a notch or two. It irritates me much how many of these writers shill and spam their Patreon accounts everywhere or put one-page stories on free story websites and ask readers to pay for the rest on a different site.

Most actually post some of stories here or other free sites eventually. I have no problem paying for something that I enjoy. Plus it helps the people writing these stories to continue to do so. It's amazing that they share even a little of themselves for free. I subscribed to many authors on patreon and it breaks my heart to see what is going on.

Best advice I've heard for this sort of thing is this: learn to code, set up your own site, and put your work there. Patreon may be top dog for creators to post their work and get pay for it, but this isn't the first time they've done shady things like this (i.e. delete a person's page with no warning, no e-mail, no nothing). And really, that's the best thing I can say, too, if you want to do business online. Build your own site, don't trust other sites to do well by you. Because they can absolutely destroy you by deciding that you no longer need an account, or by going down as well.

I'm sorry for all who are affected and I hope they're able to find more platforms to support them. I had a patreon several years ago and the revenue from that helped me pay for schoolbooks and tuition. Money from my full time job was barely enough for a roof over my head and food in my mouth.  Many people the last few years have felt the bite of inflation. If you have a skill (whatever that skill is, be it writing stories, drawing, selling homemade candles or jewelry or baked goods or fixing cars on the side, etc) there's no problem monetizing that skill and offering a product (stories, drawings, candles, jewlery) or services (cleaning hosues, fix cars etc) for people who choose to buy it. I debuted my stories on patreon first then after a certain period of time posted them for free.  Some other authors do this as well.

Is all erotica being removed from Patreon? What about furry stuff? Bdsm? LGBT-anything? Anything fringe?

Looks to me like abdl is being targeted specifically. It's the tired old "diapers=babies=pedo” nonsense, and that's been coming left, right, and center.

I think that's the statement I saw from one of the guys that got banned " sexual exploitation of children" was the "reason".

This. YouTube does this to creators all the time, and Google is notorious for having no way to contact someone. So you can have your entire income removed with no explanation, no warning, and no where to go to rectify the situation.

It's terrible watching these companies just trash the users that made their site worth anything in the first place. Patreon, YT, twitch, etc. It's all user generated content and they forget that.

I don't get groceries if I don't get paid and I don't write stories if I have to get paid doing something else to afford groceries.  Patreon was my primary source of income. I didn't get "knocked down a peg or two" I basically got fired with no warning or appeal.  Be better.

Given history, it's not unreasonable to assume that abdl is just the current wave in an ever-shrinking pyramid of acceptability.

It is deeply frustrating when people want to enjoy your art/writing but then turn around to have a go at you when you ask them to pay for it. Even if the cost is relatively small to the amount of content given. Especially since I, and I know you do as well, post at least a large majority of our stuff free of charge as well.

While I do personally disagree with a subscription-based pricing, and yes, there's a lot of low-effort trash out there being sold at a premium, that does not excuse Patreon's shitty way they handled this

you lump the entire group as though there all the same and that is just ignorant

any platform that enables users to make money should treat those users as employees. if there's a problem with an employees actions or behavior, they should address it with them before taking any action. If theres a problem with a particular piece of content, that one alone could be hidden until a verdict is reached. but to just remove the entire account without warning is where they stopped treating people like actual people.

its disgusting and so is anyone who supports such behavior

While there are writers who tease and never post stories in their entirety, the vast majority simply delay the posting on public sites like this while they post current chapters on their pay sites.

And yeah, if Patreon had been a thing back when I was actively writing (while pursuing a disability claim that failed), I may not have had to go back to a "real" job and fallen off the cliff with writing.

There is a long list of writers who routinely post here who had their livelihood ripped away from them by Patreon, not to mention a bunch of willing customers who were not allowed to pay for content they wanted to read.

Your comment reads like jealousy from someone who apparently can't muster 5 bucks a month to gain full access to an author you like while others can.

This really sucks and my heart an support goes out to anyone affected by this purge.

I wonder is there any legal route artists can pursue as the actions of patreon have caused loss of earnings and other damages here. I am in no way a legal person but in college i did a couple of legal modules mainly around employment and avoiding getting sued (Business Degree). If I was affected I would definitely be seeking legal advice anyway.

I truly am sorry you guys are going through this.

IANAL, but the terms of service probably have a vulgarity/obscenity clause that lets them determine their bar. If all of the creators who were just hit without the chance for arbitration (which is probably required in their TOS), maybe they would have a class action case to file. That's a really expensive road to travel unless they could get someone to take the case pro bono. I know they depended on the revenue, but I doubt that anyone was making the amount that would make the costs of a case worth it. Not to mention that it would be a very public tie of their real identities to the suit/media coverage.

Given we have someone in our community who was supposedly recently stabbed and murdered with a case of doxing because of ABDL, I think that the odds of someone being willing to go on this fight are slim.

Honestly from what I heard the reason patreon is going after abdl artists and other NSFW artists and such is because they're basically going to go into the open sector and try to be a part of the stock market or whatever, they're basically trying to do what Tumblr did until it nearly bankrupt them and they were bought out. I doubt the same thing is going to happen to patreon, I mean they're still going to go bankrupt but I don't think anyone's going to buy them out and save them from their own stupidity.

This is why you need a decentralized public infrastructure and hosting.
And an open and permission-less cryptocurrency.

Now you are governed by unelected faceless corporations that can put anything they want in that term of service without justification, and are fully unaccountable for the harm they incur on other innocent people

"just don't use it then"
"just go somewhere else"

That's fine for netflix.
But if banks don't want to bank you, you are now outside of civil society, without a single trial and conviction by a court or jury,...
