the worst thing used on me ,was my fathers belt. He would spank me with it on my bare bottom.

Generally the smaller the contact area the more pain, so if something is thin like a cane or a crop it is more painful, though only on a small area. (I once used a dogs choke chain on someone, that made her jump!)
