Couple  weeks ago was standing in line at Charley's Steak and a lady customer said we should of gotten the senior discount instead of using coupon / app.  Yesterday, at a  casino buffet menu had 55+ senior prices.  Oh geez, already a senior at 55?

My wife got real pissed at me about 15 years ago.

HER:   I don't know why I'm getting all this AARP stuff.

ME:   I signed you up for it.

HER:   What, why?

ME:  You turned 50.  I'm not old enough to qualify but I can get the discounts on your membership.

I don't remember much that happened after that.

@willnotwill@rusty pins

the irony is that I became eligible for Medicare sometime in 2007.  now since I'm on Medicare and I have disability, I get a whole bunch of stuff that has to do with a ARP and I was getting it when I was about 35. they must not realize that I'm not old enough to take advantage of their discounts, but it's kind of funny that I get a whole bunch of stuff from a AARP and I'm not even old enough to use it.

I remember once when my dad was about 50 or 52, and he went into a local store. he started getting those type of discounts even though he wasn't even close to being 60, and they were asking him if he was a senior, and he was able to get senior discounts at 52. that store does no longer exist But it's kind of interesting that I was getting a ARP stuff at 35, and my dad was being reminded of senior discounts at 52. it only goes to show that I guess people may not realize that disabled aren't always considered Senior citizens, but I find it funny that I always get all these AARP things.

Give it another 15 years and I'll probably end up being able to use all these AARP things, but I'm not even sure what that will bring in the next 15 years, but I hope that everything will be OK and I will be able to do a lot of things that I still do today, even if maybe in a diminished capacity but I always want to try to do the best I can.

55 has always been senior age for businesses. For federal it's 65 because that is the official retirement age and you are entitled to retirement benefits then and other senior things like Medicare and SSDI.
