  1. I know, but as you say, they seem to be hard to come by this side of the Atlantic. I've had one for about 25 years I bought from DPF & never used much while I was "under cover" raising the kids. I wore it yesterday for most of the day, & it fits the bill well. Velcro, but plenty of it, & not where it will scratch. An hourglass soaker to match. It's not the bulk in the crotch that concerns me, it's the bulk everywhere else that's the problem with a nappy square. I used to have a t-shaped terry nappy. That was more discreet, but it was still a bit bulky round the hips & anyway I can't see any of those around these days either. No idea where that came from, but it could have been DPF too. There wasn't anywhere much else to shop back before the www!
  2. Thanks very much Bill. Snuggleblanks was new to me. It's Blankencare, but they're new to me too. I've ordered a couple of things from them, & something from thenappylady.co.uk. The fuubuu diapers look promising too, but the liners are out of stock at abdlfactory.com at the moment. I'll report back on what I end up with once I've got them & tried them all out.
  3. And I should hope so too. Having doubts at your age - tut tut tut. Glad you're being good again now.
  4. I'd like to switch to cloth nappies for much of the time. I'm sorted for night-time, as 4ft terry squares are perfect for me. They're too bulky for daytime though, as they need to fit under street clothes. To put that into perspective I can just about get away with a Safari under my street clothes, & easily get away with a Molicare. What I'd like is: 1. Something I can buy at a reasonable price from the UK. That probably rules out US suppliers. 2. Something I can put through a hot wash. That probably rules out velcro. 3. Something without tight elastic round the legs, or I'll quickly get weals.. 4. Something without a waterproof layer - I'll wear pants over the top. 5. Decent absorbency - they've got to hold a couple of wettings at least. I suspect that rules out most things, so I'll probably have to bend at least one item in that wishlist. abdlfactory.com do some snap-on pants from fuubuu, whoever they are. They look possible, although I doubt I could give them a hot wash. Babypants contour diapers look good, but I can't find a UK importer. Ditto for babykins pullons. Has anyone any recommendations? My plan is to buy one of each "possible", then decide on what works best for me. Thanks!
  5. My pants are all polyurethane, & they don't seem to do this at all. And they're very soft. No good if you want baby prints or crinkly pants of course, but they don't seem to perish like PVC & vinyl, & last a long time despite being very thin.
  6. Just had my first night wearing a terry nappy, kite-folded, since I was a real baby. It felt great. I drank a glass of milk before going to sleep, & ended up wetting on my side twice in the night, with no leaks. I kept it on in the morning while I drank tea & read a book for a while. That was really just to find out how much it could hold before saturating & pooling in my plastic pants. It took another big wetting OK, then I headed for the bathroom to clean up & change. Another wetting while I cleaned my teeth, & only now did it saturate. So I cleaned up, changed into a Safari for the day, & got the terry nappy into a bucket in the garage. I'll wash it with tonight's nappy, tomorrow morning. I think that's going to be my overnight solution of choice from now on, whenever Mummy is away. The wrap-round of a kite-fold nappy is so much better than any disposable for preventing leaks. And it'll take any normal overnight wetting no problem.
  7. Hi RambleLamb, welcome to the forum. Keep entertaining us with your posts, please! Loved your first one.
  8. I stopped running about a year and a half ago, due to injury & not being able to keep the standard up I wanted. Also, I wanted to spend a lot more of my time in nappies, which doesn't really mix with long distance running. And so the weight gradually came on - only about 15lb, but enough for a bulge over the top of my shorts to be only too noticeable. And since I'm always in a onesie, I can't wear my shirt untucked unless I wear both a shirt & a onesie, which is not good in the summer. I had one attempt at doing something about it back in February, but my head wasn't right. Started again 3 weeks ago & this time it seems to be going OK, with 6lb lost so far. This approach has always worked for me in the past as well, usually after an injury has stopped me exercising as hard. What works for me: 1. I walk Binkie about 5 miles most days anyway, so I always get exercise 2. I eat a healthy diet anyway, with little junk food. That's easy for us as both Mummy & I can cook pretty well. 3. To lose weight I stop eating between meals, & make every meal a bit smaller. So 1 piece of toast for breakfast, not 2. No second helpings. No puddings. That's not so hard, as I'm still eating what I want, & the bit I don't eat is after I've already taken the edge off my hunger. 4. Fresh fruit such as apples allowed between meals when I get really hungry. Again, that takes the edge off. 5. I don't cut down on drink. Losing weight is hard enough without having to stay sober all the time. Having said that, I don't drink to excess anyway. 6. If I get the chance of being distracted enough by a social event or something, missing out on an evening meal is guaranteed to take another pound off. Without the distraction of being busy reacting to other people, it's too hard to do. Good luck to everyone trying to get the pounds off!
  9. Down. And erections are a real nuisance in a nappy, particularly if you've got a onesie on or if you're half asleep. Got to remember to readjust afterwards, & with a onesie on there's no easy access. Not that I'm really complaining about erections, but I'd rather they only happened when Mummy was around
  10. A good day for me today too. This afternoon I am in a proper terry cloth nappy for the first time in over 60 years. It feels good. I'm usually in disposables. Proper 4ft square with a kite fold & one pin. It's just a try-out - I bought a couple with a view to using them overnight. It's too bulky for daytime wear unless I'm on my own in the house though - no chance of getting my cargo shorts over the top. Way back when I started wearing nappies occasionally I used old towels, but a terry square the right size makes a huge difference. Comfortable too. Anyway, I've got to take Binkie out for a walk now, so I'll change into a pullup until I get back.
  11. Just got back from 3 days backpacking in the wilderness, walking 65 miles across rough ground. I only camped out 1 night though, as the 1 village I went through had a small hotel, & I stayed there the 2nd night as I was out on my feet. I've camped in nappies before, but not backpacked. So I had a down sleeping bag this time - not something you want a leak into, as washing them isn't a good idea. I had to travel light, & rationed myself to 2 pullups a day, with one more with me just in case. Hot weather meant wees were few & far between, & I had a couple on the grass while walking along to be on the safe side. Other than that, all wees in nappies & no chafing, so a successful expedition. My feet hurt though. I'll try to find the time to write it up more fully on my blog when I can. It was quite an experience.
  12. I've been in nappies for enough of the past year to be absolutely sure I want to be in nappies permanently for the rest of my life. The only reason I'm not is that my wife/mummy hasn't sanctioned it. If I get there, whether I'm incontinent or not would be irrelevant I think. I'm not even sure whether I'd know I'd be incontinent or not after a while. It certainly wouldn't matter to me one way or the other.
  13. Hi TinyBunny. Welcome to the forum. You'll find a lot of people like you here, & quite a few in the UK. If you need advice just ask for it - I do!
  14. I don't think he sings "plastic" anywhere in Arnold Layne. Isn't it about stealing women's underwear as part of a TV thing? On the other hand Syd Barrett's lyrics were often very child-like & nostalgic of when he was young. Matilda Mother is all about his mother reading him stories. And how child-like is Bike? "I've got a bike, you can ride it if you like. It's got a basket, a bell that rings and things to make it look good." I just love his songs.
  15. Hi Ty. Congratulations on coming out to us here. As you know, there are a lot of us on here with similar stories to your own. Accepting what you are & not being ashamed of it is a big step & has been a very positive thing for so many of us. What you do about it then is up to you of course, but once you say "it's OK" that makes a huge difference. Welcome aboard.
  16. Real world hits my AB world... I've run races from the Ponderosa, up the hills. And no, not in a nappy.
  17. I've thought about this thread, & whether I prefer plastic or cloth-backed disposables, & I think I've got a preference for plastic, although I don't really know why. It's not likely to be connected with my experience as a real baby/toddler, as I'm of an age when babies wore terry nappies here in the UK. When I started wearing nappies again, I started with terry, but switched largely to plastic-backed disposables because they were more practical - no washing problems & less obvious under street clothes. When the cloth-backed ones appeared I used them too. I've switched back to Molicare plastic-backed now - they just give me a bit more confidence. I'm not convinced the cloth-backed retain odours as well. Mind you, I'm always in plastic pants too, & I do wear cloth-backed pullups some of the time. I came to the conclusion that the baby side of me doesn't really care, as long as I'm comfortable. The adult side of me still has to worry about what to put baby into, & why, but my baby side just rolls with whatever happens. If mummy was nappying me, I'd be happy to leave the choice to her. If wishes were horses...
  18. It's a lovely sunny day here, & I've treated myself to a Rearz Safari instead of my usual Molicare. So there'll be a degree of waddling today. Off to the shops shortly. And I've got my most babyish onesie on today, of the ones that can get away with looking like a vanilla T-shirt. White with a blue paint spatter pattern. My dummy will have to stay in my pocket for the shoppng trip. Feeling good!
  19. They are still available in the UK, as I just took delivery of some from Dorset Nursing. You can also order them by phone from Hartmann (but not via their website), as they told me that by email a couple of weeks ago.
  20. ...& I agree too. I get annoyed enough by unsolicited emails and post from companies I've bought from in my vanilla life, without getting it in my AB life too. Luckily, none of the incontinence or AB companies I've bought from have ever done either. If they did, I'd stop them if I could, then shop elsewhere. I don't want my neighbours to know I wear nappies, & still less that I'm an AB, & that should be my choice, as it's my life. Not a commercial company's choice, and not Darkfinn's choice either.
  21. Oh yeah, but I know my kids pretty well, & I'll have those nappies locked away soon enough anyway. And yes, the croquet set is up there on the same shelves, although nobody's touched it for years. If my kids were like me when I was a kid, it would have been impossible to keep anything a secret. Luckily they're not!
  22. Well the Safaris have arrived, & after checking inside I sealed the box up again & put it on a high shelf in the garage. They should be OK there for a bit until I've used enough nappies up to fit them in the topbox. And in the process I found a brand new protective mattress cover I bought about 3 years ago. I wanted to put it on our bed permanently, but wasn't quite ready to have my wife know about it. I was going to use it occasionally when I had a weekend alone in the house, but by the time that came round I couldn't find where I'd hidden it. Anyway, I bought a new one & put it on the bed a few months ago, knowing my wife would soon notice. She did, and has been OK with it, & it's still on the bed. This is all part of coming out to my wife more, a bit at a time. Anyway, I've got a spare now!
  23. That's certainly true. I just stock up every 3 or 4 months. It keeps the number of deliveries down, & reduces postage overheads. I should be OK until September now I think, once the Safaris arrive later today. I'll have to stay in though, as it looks like they need signing for.
  24. I took a towel out of the bathroom, pinned it on & put my shorts back on. Then went out with my dad to do the week's food shopping. I didn't dare wet it. I was probably about 7, certainly less than 9 years old, as we moved house around my 9th birthday. Nobody said anything, & probably nobody noticed. If anybody had asked me why I did it, I'm sure I couldn't have given them an answer at the time. I just wanted to, like I just want to now. I've still no idea why I wanted to, that first time, but certainly I was already going to be an AB even then. I suspect it may partly date back to when I was at nursery school, about 3 years old, although I can't be sure. One of the carers got cross with one of the other children, & threatened to glue him to his chair the following if he didn't stay sitting down when he was told to. I was coming down with flu & a high fever at the time, & I never forgot that - of course I wasn't there the next day. I think that fixed something in my head that never went away - it's certainly one of my earliest memories. Maybe that had nothing to do with my AB side, but I've always thought it probably did.
  25. Oh I'll find the space, but not in my car. It's a baby car!
