I can’t change myself . I am required by law to stock all the PPE a person will need to do my care , gloves,gowns,drapes catheters, syringes , masks,lubes you name it soup to nuts if it’s needed I have it . Nothing says your staff has to use it , but it has to be available . Currently my aide rarely uses any protection I am clean she is clean and we are family. Just before the pandemic I switched to a touch less pre lubed catheter,only the package and my urethra touch the cathter well my aide inserts & drives without touching me or the catheter . Everything in my world is engineered for long term wet and messy exposure and can be machine washed/dried and reused .

Well since peoples definition of incontinent is different ,what’s yours ? And faster than what ? people aren’t often prepared to answer such questions because in there haste they never think thru the conclusion of what level of continence or Incontinence is acceptable to you . Saying you want to be shot in the head and require care for the rest of your life , is pretty cut and dry whereas Incontinence is a spectrum from mild inconvenient to wild wet and messy is how I roll.

Finding legitimate plastic or rubber bed protectors is getting harder and harder . One think that is pretty great is Babykin’s or KINS for adults crib sheeting has two sides of cotton sheeting that feels like heavy duty t shirt cotton with a waterproof barrier sandwiched between (you purchase it by the yard and then make bed sheets , visually nobody can tell it from a bed sheet or know it has a secret . It can be loud when rolling over or changing positions as it is definative protection . I am special needs every thing in my gear bag is wet /mess safe layers . I use an ICU bed at home so everything is clear powder coat or encased rubber . My sheets were made for me about 15 years ago and are used daily

I enjoy thinking and evaluating things, jury duty for me would be a fun adventure, technically if I was sure I would be on the jury, I could stop my daily medication and only use emergency doses to control my bowels evenings and weekends when I’m the only one effected( never tried it for long and my great fear would be Murphy would have an issue and I might have a dramaticly embarrassing diaper issue of some kind( I am sure any defendant would love a diaper inspired mistrial ?) but I think the lawyers and judge wouldn’t be very happy.

You can take any adult special needs apparatus be it walker wheelchair stander etc and easily customize it to promote or prohibit any activity, there is very little not already in existence that can’t be or hasn’t been used to chemicaly or physicaly disable a persons ability to do whatever desired activity unassisted .

When I couldn’t put them on or take them off independently, I always need an able bodied adult in charge of my safety ,food, water, meds ,diapers,catheters , retraints. having no control over bladder bowel or diaper other than filling them, I’ll take it

Everyone in my circle knows just about everything about me in case of emergency . I almost always have an aide responsible for getting me places safely and changing my diapers or providing care for something unplanned? I have epilepsy and can have status epilepticcus anytime anywhere , it is a potential life or death emergency . Knowing where , when & how to use medication isn’t enough . I am not overweight at all but me in my power wheelchair is 600 LBS . Knowing how to change my drive controls so you can drive my chair like a baby stroller can save a lot of grief because heavily sedated seizure patients aren’t exactly world renowned for there driving skills ( most of the time I can’t speak let alone drive a chair ) so knowing how to do that is an essential skill, around me . Just as knowing how to change me is really not a group task , it sure helps when everyone can and will do it , if it needs done .

I have smeo old discovery trekking reusable containment diapers that I haven’t used in years,,since I can’t swim any more, I used to just use a catheter and drain bag for urine . Special needs people with bowel Incontinence are required to wear a containment suit, to prevent floating turds .

After 30 years of needing and using diapers if I haven’t gone everywhere a normal person wouldnt , from grocery shopping to jury box, I have been excused to attend to a “urgent diaper issue” , jury duty was unique( somehow the judge assumed 1 and done after second filling I was excused from the case for medical justification.
