  1. 1. Have you ever had a diaper leak in bed, while staying overnight with friends/family, or at a hotel?

I've been experiencing more incidents of bedwetting lately, by which I mean that I'm soaking through my diaper or using it in an inopportune position that results in my having to do laundry in the morning. I sleep over at friends places with some frequency, usually after drinking, which only makes this outcome more likely, so I think I will have to add plastic pants to my travel bag moving forward, and also, to my nighttime wardrobe. I've slept in diapers for years and this generally hasn't been an issue, but it seems to be happening more frequently these days.

It hasn't happened to me yet, but this did cause me to wonder how I would handle it if I wet the bed at someone else's house or at a hotel, so I thought I would ask my fellow diapernauts if anyone else has experienced this, and if so, how they handled it.

I am a true bed wetter so yes, this happens to me all the time. However to say I wet the bed isn’t really true because I wet in me diaper and the bed stays dry. There is the odd diaper leak but not very often.

When I travel diapered, which isn't often, I bring a reusable bed pad with me. I expect disposable bed pads would be fine too, however, my reusable pad is rather large and goes from my knees to my shoulders and a good 12 inches on either side of my somewhat rotund hips. I use the same one at home.

I slip the pad underneath the sheet and hasn't been needed so far. When I've had leaks at home, it is usually small and we don't bother to wash the sheets. Well, except for that one time :) I'm also meticulous about not leaving the pad in the room when we check out.

I'd also suggest some of those terry lined plastic pants that Babykins sells.

I've worn plastic pants over my diapers before. Specifically the Northshore Trifecta waterproof diaper cover. It helps contain leaks.

I've never tried cloth diapers and plastic pants, but I've seen posts here on DD and other places that say cloth diapers and plastic pants are the best for preventing leaks. Especially for side sleepers.

I've sometimes thought about putting a cloth diaper over top of my regular nighttime diaper. (with a pair of plastic pants of course lol).

The experienced diapered folks among us will attest to this. They are much more resistant to leaks, particularly side leaks. I find them a lot of work, though, so I would not want to have to wear cloth diapers to bed seven nights a week, or travel with them - it would create logistical difficulties and generate a lot of laundry. Plus I have a weird hangup whereby I am entirely comfortable wearing disposable diapers around my wife, even absurdly printed ones, but for some reason I get really self-conscious in cloth diapers. I think it goes back to when I was a kid - I wore mostly disposables but cloth here and there, and when I was in cloth diapers I felt like they were a lot bulkier and more visible, plus I could not put them on myself, ergo, the embarrassment factor went way up.

To give a more nuanced answer, yes, I have "wet the bed" whilst in hotels or guest accommodation with friends but it's been no big deal because the bed remained dry.  What got wet was the cloth-lined plastic pants I wear over the top of my night nappy (assuming it is a disposable).

Yes.  They are the closest thing to "bullet proof" for adult bedwetting in my experience.  Leaks are very, very rare on my cloth nights.

This works well and is a variation on the terry-lined waterproof pant suggestion I mentioned earlier.  If the terry pants DO get wet, it's usually just a minor damp spot and can be dried over the course of the day.

Short answer is No.  Longer answer is, I am not incontinent and only wear diapers at night at a hotel when I am on a solo vacation and go 24/7 for the week.  I have said it before in other forum threads, but when away from home whether at a hotel, friend or relatives house or any other place, YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT GET THEIR BEDDING WET, PERIOD!  If you regularly wear at home and don't have any leaks at all, you should be good to go.  If you do leak at night now and then at home, then before you stay at other people's homes or hotels, you need to try extra protective measures to make sure no bedding gets wet.  Thicker diapers, booster pads in the diaper, plastic pants and especially sleeping on a reusable or disposable bed pad as the last barrier between you and the bedding.  The bed pad goes on top of the sheet, not under the sheet between the sheet and mattress.  You lay on the pad as you sleep.  Even if you really don't care if you wet your bed at home or have to wash your own sheets, when it's not your bed, you need to make absolutely sure you will not get anyone else's bed or property wet, even if your diaper does happen to leak (disposable bed pads to insure a leak won't make it onto the bedding or mattress).  You should have a lot of time before any trip or visit to make sure you have all the proper products to insure other people's property is well protected from your urine.  One last thing for people who stay at hotels.  If you tell them you wet the bed, wear diapers and ask for a plastic sheet on the mattress, that is just for your own personal pleasures in telling strangers you wear diapers.  If you make sure ahead of time that you are properly protected with all the right products, as you should, a waterproof mattress protector is not needed.

Back when I thought it would never happen away from home I wet the bed (no diaper) first at a motel on a business trip and again a few months later while visiting the folks with my wife.  In both cases I (we at my folks) laundered the bedding with as far as I know no one the wiser.  Both were traumatic and in both cases I was fortunate not to be discovered.

Since the second incident I’ve without fail worn protection when sleeping away from home.  In my experience leaks are rare with decent protection.  And when they do happen they’re small enough that they dry quickly without leaving a mark.

I've been fortunate enough to have never leaked through a diaper while sleeping in a hotel, but did witness it happen when we were staying at a hotel attached to a big waterpark - my buddy's daughter's pull-up leaked and she soaked the bed, or so she thought - they had their own TV in the kids' "cave" that was attached to the main room, and they drank juice and watched movies until late at night. So, it could also have been spilled juice, but the kid thought that her pull-up had leaked, and so we went down to the desk in the morning (we stayed for three nights and this was day 2, I believe), and said, hey, listen,  a little girl's diaper leaked and the bedding is wet in the top left bunk in the kid's cave in room 325 or whatever it was. The lady behind the desk said, "Don't worry about it, happens almost every day, the kids' mattresses have waterproof covers, we'll send someone up to change the bedding, thanks for telling us."

I don't know if the response would have been the same if I had said, "Hey, sorry, my diaper leaked last night, and I need new bedding..." Thankfully, I have not yet had to find out.

I've had small leaks at hotels. When I travel for work I usually travel with cloth-like diapers so that they aren't as noticeable. Usually these diapers (like Little Kings or Alphagatorz) are heavy daytime diapers for me and I wear Rearz at night. Sometimes if I've wet heavily I leak out the side/ bottom from the cloth-like diapers. I've thought about getting some all white Northshore Megamaxes for travel but things have slowed down again so no need to keep them around just for that.

Update: I was prescient when I started this thread, because I had a catastrophic positional diaper leak at a rented cottage - the only thing that saved me was that the mattress I was on had a waterproof protector on it, which I was able to spray and wipe down. However, I had to load a laundry machine at 3 AM in the dark while trying not to wake any of the numerous people we were sharing the space with. It was an epic fail.

When I was around 11 - 12 years old we were visiting my out of town cousins. I totally wet the bed, no protection either on me or the bed. My Dad and Uncle hauled the double size mattress up from the basement to hang over the deck rail and let it dry in the sun. Of course all the cousins were playing in the yard and were privy to see my full humiliation since everyone knew I was the only bedwetter in the family.

As an adult I have had a few diaper leaks but nothing too serious, it pays to invest in quality diapers.

You are close to my age. Back in the old days using diapers for overage bedwetting wasnt commonplace. I remember waking up to many wet beds meaning soaked sheets and pjs. I had an accident at summer sports camp when I was 14 and that was really embarrasing. And I had an accident in a hotel bed when my father took my older brother and me to see a pro hockey game. I think I was 16 at the time and we got access to beer and some other guys joined us and we had a party. I realized in the morning that I couldnt hold my beer. My father wasn't impressed when he found out about the party and my wet bed.

I had an incident take place a number of years ago now at a friends wedding.  I'm not much of a drinker but someone brought some home made wine that I really enjoyed.  Well....I got really....really drunk.  This was back in the days before we had all the great ABDL and medical diapers we have today.  I had some Attends six tape diapers and that was it.  They were usually up to the task of containing a wetting or two.  So at the end of the night my wife helped me put on one of those diapers and we went to bed in our room at the local Holiday Inn.  Well I ended up saturating that poor diaper over the course of the night.  It was never meant to contain that kind of volume.  The diaper was soaked....the sheets were soaked....my wife got wet.....it was a huge mess.

To top it all off....when I took the diaper off and attempted to wrap it up into a diaper ball like I usually do...the thing EXPLODED!  There was wet diaper fluff and pee soaked SAP everywhere!

We cleaned up the mess the best we could.  Left a 20 dollar tip and a sorry note for the poor maid that would have had to deal with that and got the heck outta Dodge!

To this day...I haven't gone back to that hotel or even stayed at a Holiday Inn again.
