rusty pins Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 I was probably out of diapers at night by fall of 1964 and back then disposable diapers were all but unheard of. Wasn't until later that decade Pampers started to be advertised on TV. I think parents only used disposable diapers in the early 1960's if they were going to travel with a baby or toddler and from what I understand, disposable diapers were really poor quality back then. Yup, when I was a young kid it was cloth diapers and plastic pants, the same as other kids my age who wet the bed or still wore diapers as an older kid.
Pampertimmy Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 I was in diapers full time until I was over 4 years old. Then I was in night time diapers until I was around 10 years old for bedwetting. 1
cavvet8993 Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 I was daytime potty trained right after I turned 2 but still wore cloth diapers at bedtime. Eventually I started having daytime accidents again. My mom ended up getting some Pampers for me and I continued wearing them day and night till age 7.
zzyzx Posted May 13, 2024 Posted May 13, 2024 I've known since childhood that of me and my siblings, I was the hardest to get potty trained. And in discussions with Mom once a medical issue hit, that I was still in diapers on my 4th birthday. I was out by my fifth birthday, but don't remember the process or timing.... The "baby book" which allowed parents to note development during the first 5 years of life, had a place for potty training under 2 years of age, which my parents left blank.
Craisler Posted May 13, 2024 Posted May 13, 2024 I was at partially toilet trained during the day by age 3 or so, but I frequently wore diapers during the day because our trailer lacked in door plumbing and the central building with the toilets was some distance away. I wore diapers at night until I was 10 years old. After that, my reduced bladder capacity meant that I frequently wore diapers anytime I couldn’t be assured of getting to a toilet within an hour or so. I was still wearing diapers until I was around 15 years old on vacation car trips. They were supposed to be “just in case”, but I have vivid memories of some notable accidents.
Nyte Kitsune Posted May 13, 2024 Posted May 13, 2024 I was in diapers up until I was almost 6, I really wanted to go to school, but the rules back in the late 70's was you had to be potty trained so I had to learn to use the toilet.

I was lucky that I went to school on a military base in England, my dad was in the military, so even while I still wore diapers when in grade school, there were no regulations to keep my out of diapers while going to school. I also wet the bed until I was around 12+/-.
Spiderman Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 My mom was very determined to get me out of day and night time diapers so I was potty trained for both by the age of there. 1
2sail2 Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 I was probably average age when I got out. But I never felt like I should of left them. I always felt like I had to go after stopping wearing them and eventually I lost it in kindergarten one day after lunch.
BabyCody27 Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 I was mostly potty-trained fairly young but I wet the bed until I was 15 so I wore pull-ups at night until then
Pampered66 Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 I was back in diapers for bedwetting at age 13 through 17. Usually had to wear all day on weekends as well as Holidays, etc.
Cute_Kitten Posted June 22, 2024 Posted June 22, 2024 I was fully potty trained and dry at night by the age of 2. Don't know how my grandma did it (she was an amazing lady and all these years after her passing I still miss her), but after raising 5 kids and onto the grandkids, she was so done with diapers!
hlcl Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 @tryingtocope it was nice to be able to wear diapers as an older kid. Potty training is stressful. It might be better to keep someone in diapers and delay potty training until things slow down and the person can concentrate on training
hlcl Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 @diaperuser Did the kids who weren't potty trained mind being potty trained when they were in school? Did other kids tease them? If I was the teacher I would have the kids wear diapers on the way to school in case they have an accident. Once they get to school I would put a pull up on them so they can work on potty training. When it is time to go home I would put a diaper on them so they won't have to worry about having an accident on the way home. By putting a diaper on them for the ride home it gives them a break from the stress of potty training. Sometimes parents don't go right home after picking up the kids from school. A diaper prevents accidents on the way home. When the kids get more practice at making it to the potty they can wear pull ups on the way to and from school. During the school day kids will need potty breaks and diaper/pants checks and changes. Kids will have fewer accidents as they get practice at making it to the potty. 1 1
diaperuser Posted August 22, 2024 Posted August 22, 2024 @hlcl I know I didn’t like it. Not sure about the other kids. Have bad memories of potty training. Lot of issues with potty training. I saw a pediatrician that is all she does. For those that have problems with bowel movements.
