About This Club

A club for those of us into music and music production
  1. What's new in this club
  2. I also play acoustic, bass and electric dabbling with some keyboards now and then. I really get into using EZDrummer right now with my songwriting.
  3. I've done myfive-year upgrade purchase but have not yet depolyed it. I am going for "Content Creation. I already have several music production apps, graphics apps and video editors. That requires processing power I talked itover with my tech. and we concluded that I would need a gaming computer of mid-level. He works with Acer but he's strictly business machines. so I went over to Ebay. I used to listen to This Week In Technology (TWIT) and Leo LaPort said that if you want bargans, look for FACTORY refurbished. Well, I found an Acer Certiied Refurbisher for both the computer and the monitor. What I got was an Acer Predator Orion 5000 640 i7 dodeca core 16 GB ram 1 TB all-SSD and for a monitor Acer VT270 27" touchscreen and an Acer Predator Galea True Harmony Sound Gaming Headset. which I've already tried and it sounds great. I was just looking for "headphones, factory refurb open box" and these came in at under 50 USD, I was thinking Sennheiser or AKG. I am going to upgrade to 32 or maybe 64 GB RAM. I have to do some re-arranging to set it up right. I have a 2:1 computer speaker system. The internal soundcard has to be good although I have an older Soundblaster but I am entertaining the idea of either a Scarlett from Sweetwater or Arturia MiniFuse, both 2 inputs. I'll probably be using mostly the Arturia V Collection 9/Pigments virtual instruments and maybe get the IK Multimedia Syntronic player and collection of synthesizers Although I love my Moog Opus 3 and have a Casio WK3500 which I can sample the hell out of for the Sforando sfz/sf2 (soundfont) player and I have a boatload of VST gear and synths; GTG, Big Cat and other, and Arturia and M-Audio controllers
  4. From me Sweetwater YT video. And I've been kinda turning my nose up a Ableton Liet Live
  5. https://www.bandlab.com/products/desktop/assistant/download/windows I have a PDF of the manual. The thing has 1200 pages Also TRACKTION 5\, 6 and 7, have become freeware, I do not know if they are still being offered but I have the installers and manual PDF
  6. Similar to the GEM Genysis, and Yamaha Genos or the Casio WK/CTK's and apparently compatible with other virtual synth/keyboards. I can just imagine using this with the Arturia V Collection and the IK Syntronik (which includes the Polymoog and Moog Opus 3 https://www.1manband.nl/omb/ Somethig else you may wish to look over is Band in a Box. I do not know if it is for DAW, live or both, but the list of contributed sampes is impressive https://www.pgmusic.com/
  7. I play acoustic and electric guitar. Mostly classic rock and some classic.
  8. Nice, I'm getting a very 90s nintendo/sega feel from this.
  9. I started on Bass Guitar, then I hit the Guitar (Acoustic and Electric), I've always dabbled with Keys, and then finally, and maybe it doesn't count as playing an instrument, but I program just about any kind of instrument now with notation software, which allows me to "play" whatever instrument I want whether I know how to play it or not, just so long as I know how it's supposed to be played. This piece is really very long, but I wrote it specifically so that it would never get boring. I think if you did aerobic exercises with it all the way through you'd probably die from exhaustion. I produced it quite a few years ago, and so my methods were different in that they were archaic with sound straight from my notation software, which worked out surprisingly well provided I worked with it a lot. I still hadn't figured out how to adjust the strict quantization of notes and staves to eliminate what may seem like an automated quality in certain passages, but I've since solved that problem. Still, I love this thing, so much so that I don't mind putting my real name on it.
  10. I use several. For composition I don't use a DAW, I use Sibelius 7, but then I rip all the staves to .wav files with licensed East West library audio, except for any MIDI tracks I need for running soft synths. Then I'll use NCH Mixpad and its companion sound editor Wavepad to fully develop all the waveforms. Sometimes I also use the freeware version of Reaper just to take advantage of some really cool VSTi synths that I downloaded for free. I also have the Zeta synth that runs as a plugin on Sonar. Then I do the real mixing in Cakewalk Sonar Artist. I might move up to Protools, but that would be another monthly bill to pay, and honestly, Sonar sounds great, so I really don't see a reason to waste any money.
  11. How come you omitted Logic in this poll? It's probably one of the most popular DAWs around.
  12. Ok, lets see if we have some more... - Why lightning engineers masters often only to count until two? Because on three mostly something heavy is to be moved... - Stagehand to engineer: Can I have a power cable? Engineer sure - how long? Stagehand: just until after the show... - Whats the different between a big pizza and a sound engineer? A family can live from the pizza but not from the income of a sound engineer... - Sound engineer to lighting engineer: It's really dark here, the blue can's seem not to work very well... Lighting engineer: Come on - if you are canned you'r also not the brightest...
  13. And one more: Why comes the flash before the thunder? Even god have to wait for the sound engineer...
  14. Basically you can use every VST/AU host. Some doing better and some not. I know also people playing with Natives Complete Control... I performed live with MainStage and with Ableton. Both have there pros and cons. I use MainStage mostly for the cover band in wich I play. Actually it is responsible for my guitar sound (PositivGrid BiasFX), my keyboard sound (mostly FM8 and Alchemie) and an FX mic (Vocoder, Harmonizer) The pro form MainStage is, that you can prepare the complete setlist with all Sound's FX's and a pre mix. More over you get a mini Notepad where you can put in remarks or chord. The con from MainStage is, that it is sometimes a bit tricky and have it's own live... Ableton work way's more stable, but it's not that comfortable if it comes to setlist and premixing. It's more for DJ'ing and great if you work with stems. How ever - in every case: a) Have a plan "B" if something fails. (I still have a "normal" keyboard, that is connected to the (analog) pre mixer and an backup guitar amp). So if the computer fail I still can play something (of cause not with that sound - but the important part is that the show goes on...) b) get a feeling for the things that can go wrong and have a strategy how to repair this. c) I you have a pro team, check that strategy with your stagehands before you go on stage and tell them what to do. d) keep it as simple as possible e) Think exactly over what you want to do when and why - and then check that it works in the rehearsal room first. I know that can be tricky I also played jobs where we had only one or two rehearsals before the gig.
  15. That depends on what I doing. I'm grow up with Atari and Emagic - so my favourite DAW ist still Logic. How ever for electronic production I use also Ableton because for this is much more intuitiv when I work pattern based and not score based. For live acts I used also Mainstage as VST/AU host.
  16. Hey folks! Just joined the club this morning! But anyway, I've got a lot of tracks I've uploaded onto my Youtube channel. I also released an album in July. This is mostly video game-themed stuff, but it's been pretty well received. I'm learning a lot from some folks in another forum, such as harmonizing, adding variation to certain tracks, etc., but I love what I do. Here's my latest track: This track, and a few others like it, are part of a private project I'm working on. Feel free to check out my other stuff, and I'll be happy to upload more if you're interested. I'll admit, I'm on vacation this afternoon and won't return until next Wednesday night, so I may be "ghost" for a week or so. Still, leave me some feedback! It's much appreciated! Oh, and if you are interested in checking out my album? Here ya go: https://play.google.com/store/music/album/Bits_Pieces_Loch_Snes_Monster?id=Bkzsrpn36phs367l5vxsnvtkldu It's mostly inspired by the old Mega Man X series on the SNES. Thanks again!
  17. Thanks for taking a listen. I'm a big sci-fi nerd, so yes, probably some influence in there
  18. Great! has a bit of the 70's sci-fi sound that I love. OUTLIER is agood name. I can just feel standing on a newly colonized planet or a post-apocalyptic Earth as in the Rodenberry GENESIS II series. Now all you need are some VISUALIZATIONS; the modern onscreen equivalent of a light show Electronic has come a long way since SWITCHED ON BACH and 1969's
  19. Neat idea for a club/group by the way! I've been dabbling in electronic music for a number of years. Used to use all hardware (sequencers, drum machines and synths) recently made the switch to garage band and Logic Pro software. Amateur stuff, but it's a fun hobby.
