If, like me, you have an arseload of VST plugin instruments that you would like to use as standalone, there is one obsticle. A VSTi(nstrument) is a DLL and therefore, needs a host. That is usually a DAW. Well; guess what: There are solutions to that. The latest is Nanohost https://www.tone2.com/nanohost.html It comes in tw flavors 32bit and 64bit: Get both You use it by copying the one you wish to use and pasting it into the folder where the instrument you wish to make live. Then change the file NAME to the exact same one as the name of the DLL. When you want to use the instrument live (Audacity will not use VSTi but will take live inputs, so it should work there), just open the [instrument filename].exe. Since most Arturia instruments are also VSTi, you can use them with LMMS, which do not take live input. It would still be neat if we could find software that generates a DLL for standalone instruments, thus making them easily integratable into a DAW situation I don't know if Nanohost would work with non-instruments. I have a shitload of VST stompboxes that I'd love to bring to life and what I could do with a 24 channel mixer and a 3-tier rig of controller keyboards arranged as 1. an 88 noter, 2 a 25 and 49 noter, 3 a 25 and 61 noter, each with its own channel, a guitar channe and amulti-out drum and bass box. Put the saddle on the stove, Ma: We're gonna ride the range 2nite!! FUCK Yeah!!

Ok, lets see if we have some more... - Why lightning engineers masters often only to count until two? Because on three mostly something heavy is to be moved... - Stagehand to engineer: Can I have a power cable? Engineer sure - how long? Stagehand: just until after the show... - Whats the different between a big pizza and a sound engineer? A family can live from the pizza but not from the income of a sound engineer... - Sound engineer to lighting engineer: It's really dark here, the blue can's seem not to work very well... Lighting engineer: Come on - if you are canned you'r also not the brightest... -

Play Your VSTi Plugin LIVE!
mick_dl replied to Little BabyDoll Christine's topic in Music Producers Club's Topics
Basically you can use every VST/AU host. Some doing better and some not. I know also people playing with Natives Complete Control... I performed live with MainStage and with Ableton. Both have there pros and cons. I use MainStage mostly for the cover band in wich I play. Actually it is responsible for my guitar sound (PositivGrid BiasFX), my keyboard sound (mostly FM8 and Alchemie) and an FX mic (Vocoder, Harmonizer) The pro form MainStage is, that you can prepare the complete setlist with all Sound's FX's and a pre mix. More over you get a mini Notepad where you can put in remarks or chord. The con from MainStage is, that it is sometimes a bit tricky and have it's own live... Ableton work way's more stable, but it's not that comfortable if it comes to setlist and premixing. It's more for DJ'ing and great if you work with stems. How ever - in every case: a) Have a plan "B" if something fails. (I still have a "normal" keyboard, that is connected to the (analog) pre mixer and an backup guitar amp). So if the computer fail I still can play something (of cause not with that sound - but the important part is that the show goes on...) b) get a feeling for the things that can go wrong and have a strategy how to repair this. c) I you have a pro team, check that strategy with your stagehands before you go on stage and tell them what to do. d) keep it as simple as possible e) Think exactly over what you want to do when and why - and then check that it works in the rehearsal room first. I know that can be tricky I also played jobs where we had only one or two rehearsals before the gig. -
Hey folks! Just joined the club this morning! But anyway, I've got a lot of tracks I've uploaded onto my Youtube channel. I also released an album in July. This is mostly video game-themed stuff, but it's been pretty well received. I'm learning a lot from some folks in another forum, such as harmonizing, adding variation to certain tracks, etc., but I love what I do. Here's my latest track: This track, and a few others like it, are part of a private project I'm working on. Feel free to check out my other stuff, and I'll be happy to upload more if you're interested. I'll admit, I'm on vacation this afternoon and won't return until next Wednesday night, so I may be "ghost" for a week or so. Still, leave me some feedback! It's much appreciated! Oh, and if you are interested in checking out my album? Here ya go: https://play.google.com/store/music/album/Bits_Pieces_Loch_Snes_Monster?id=Bkzsrpn36phs367l5vxsnvtkldu It's mostly inspired by the old Mega Man X series on the SNES. Thanks again!

OK; so you have this great plugin instrument that sounds like a million, either a software verison of a classical instrument like a Pianet N, a Rhodes Suitcase or a Vox Jaguar or Farfisa Mini-Compact, or some do-it-all synthesizer that has Subtractive Minimoog format, FM, CZ Phase distortion and Linear Algorithm, or a drum machine with 16 voices. And you say "Gee, if I could only play that without having to use my DAW" Here is the deal, unless the plugin is an exe (executable) file, in which case it probably has a "standalone" mode or version, it is probably a dll. DLL stands for Dynamic Link Library. While this thing is, functionally, a whole program, parameter set, Graphic User Interface and set of presets and actuall DOES something, which makes it dynamic, it needs to be called to play. In the old days, it would be considered a kind of subroutine that is stored on its own, and called by a main program, which is what it needed to work. Well for a dll plugin. that main program is called a "host". So if your VSTi (VST instrument) is to play it needs a hose. Usually that means your DAW or Digital Audio Workstation (Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Sonar, FL Studio, Tracktion, or REAPER). Now,these are monster programs that you have to call up and set the plugin instrument up in to sound What if you could just get a program that would just play the damn plugin live on its own? Ta-Da!! You are not the only one to think of that. When I hear some grat-sounding strings on a track and say "If I could only play that live [sigh]". Gluess what: Minihost https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=nc47WvLmGaOc_Qat3ZW4BQ&q=vst+minihost&oq=vst+min&gs_l=psy-ab.1.0.0i20i263k1j0l9.1960.6542.0.11107.12.9.2.0.0.0.172.855.5j3.8.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..2.10.864.0..35i39k1j0i20i264k1j0i131k1j0i10k1j0i20i263i264k1.0.Q42dzVxt3T4 VstHost https://www.google.com/search?ei=s847WuvcMqaT_Qac-LPAAw&q=vsthost&oq=vsthost&gs_l=psy-ab.1.0.0i67k1l2j0i10i67k1j0j0i10k1l2j0j0i10k1l2j0.118120.124832.0.144284.8.8.0.0.0.0.110.663.6j1.8.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..0.8.768.6..35i39k1j0i131k1j0i20i264k1.108.x4KsiJtZ17c Savihost https://www.google.com/search?ei=RM87Wor3K4Gb_Qbw7oroCw&q=savihost&oq=savvihost&gs_l=psy-ab.1.0.0i13k1l7j0i13i30k1l3.61388.68651.0.76322.12.11.1.0.0.0.121.1041.4j6.11.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..0.12.1149.6..0j35i39k1j0i67k1j0i131i67k1j0i131k1j0i20i264k1j0i131i20i264k1j0i20i264i46k1j46i20i264k1j0i10k1j0i13i10i30k1.104.cFolXFsl9Ls I take it that, using Savihost, rather than just rename it. you make a copy of it and rename the copy after the instrument it will be playing. Now do you know what that means to someone like me who has over 100 synths, about a dozen organs, 3 or 4 pianos and various exotic instruments, like sitars and santours as well as a gazillion string sets, drum machines and samples, and maybe I can do this with one of the sfz players? I can create versions of the Fairies, double-string harps, glass flute and Dulcichord (the double-string harp laid over a soundbox and either plucked or struck with hammers), or double-strung bowed instrumets. Now, all accessible on stage: Oy cavade! Drool...swoon...thud!

I was working on this one. Sane track, but with processors superimposed on the track; channel strip, graphic EQ, compressor and saturator -
What do you think of this as a club cover photo If this is not "tall" enough, I can do some tricks with itto make it taller

Does this get me in? Deadly Farce It is my first, just completed, digital production. The history is that it was a compilation of material composed at different times and recoreded in 1993 on a Fostex X-15, then mastered to to another Semi-pro and finally to some ordinary tapes. The raw tape was recorded mostly at 7 ips with some parts at 3-1/2 and even the lowest speed possible, then output to the master tape at 7 ips, Well, I lost the master tape and my Fostex X-15 died long ago, so I recorded to Audacity from a Tascam Portastudio 03, using a final tape, which is, by necessity 3rd generation. I applied some EQ in Audacity, which default is optimized for mastering: 60 hz and below rolloff, 200-313 hz cut, boost at I think the 2 khz and the boost at 12 and up, applied reverb and some other effects, then Export Audio as a 16-bit 44.1hz sample rate WAV to be CD-ready. To understand the lyrics, you should read the Comments in the ID-3 labels made with MP3Tag. SHAVING CREAM: THE NEXT DEGENERATION is not as loud as I would like since I could not find a bandpass filter with resonance and I was not about to go fishing through my other VST. Back in '94, the master tape of that almost landed me job in a recording studio in Saugus, MA. I did mix it aggressively so that it could sustain the normal degradation that goes with recording to a standard cassette as 3rd gen tracks I alos bring with me some tidings http://offtopic.sandralyn.net/vststuff.html You might also look up Veriety of Sound (VOS) Vlad G and Tokyo Dawn Records for effects Also Arturia has reached 5 on the V Collections
