Spargano
does the pressure act differently than awake? Link to comment
Baby Brian
I can't speak for true sleep wetting but I have found that with a catheter in (day or night) I drain slowly enough that just about any disposable can absorb my pee easily. Without one in, I flood when I pee. As such, only the premium diapers are good enough to handle my urges during the day, and I even need to use cloth at night since even a premium disposable isn't enough (I'm a side sleeper). Walesiswet
Everybody is different. For me I wake up either in a soaked diaper or with a 2 litre bag full of pee at the end of my bed a I genuinely wonder how it got there. For me you can tell the body has different leak points in terms of bladder pressure depending on physical position. When say down the bladder has to reach a fuller point before leaking than standing up, no doubt gravity and the space in your pelvis effects this. On the odd occasion I have woken and been aware of desperately needing a wee it's been a flood. I suspect we'll all be different. Link to comment
Hookedondiapers
I find that if I am dreaming about urinating, and it is coming out in short bursts, then I am not urinating, but ejaculating. 1 Link to comment
DiapermanAl
My wife said sometimes she hears me peeing in my sleep. So i take that as a surge. 2 Link to comment
Baby Brian
You can definitely pee with an erection, what makes it difficult while diapered is your penis is spearing the diaper creating a dam that can be very painful when urinating because it is getting backed up in the urethra. Sorry I don't get it. How does someones penis "spear" a diaper. That would seem to imply a penis would have to be short enough to stand out straight with an erection. Except mine is barely short enough to do that when I'm not aroused. Link to comment
kevindhca
It's impossible to know if it's different when asleep. Most people have no knowledge of what happened during sleep. For me, I go pee just before I go to bed, put on my diaper, and go to sleep. When I wake up my diaper is wet, and I have no awareness of wetting. 1 Link to comment

Some people aren't that big, but what can happen to me is I will get an erection and the erection will push diagonally up on the diaper until the folded top catches it. The penis, unable to fully erect is painful and the urination in this position is also nearly impossible as well as painful. This happens to a lot of us small guys because our penis flops around inside the diaper and can settle on up a lot when sleeping. For this reason I am constantly having to adjust my tackle to make sure it is not up Spargano Link to comment

I've always has to make sure I'm pointing up or if not it can get painful when I get an erection. I didn't realize that much of a size difference would translate so differently, sorry again. When you lose bladder control while sleeping the bladder empties completely as far as I understand it. When your awake you can usually control the flow unless your totally desperate but enuresis is different. I remember going to a doctor for it when I was younger because of my bed wetting. I was very embarrassed about it but he said that I was completely normal except for the 30 to 40 seconds it took for my bladder to empty during the night. 1 Link to comment
DavidMW
When I did 30 days of 24x7 at the end of 2012, my first (or one of the first) sleep-wettings that time resulted in my sheet soaked from my knees to my chest. Link to comment

I have had several bladder ultrasound tests, and they all show I have about 125 mls in my bladder after I think it's empty. The docs think that's too much, but it doesn't seem to cause me any trouble, other than the reduction in total capacity. I would think it's the same at night. Link to comment
rubbersheetmike
kevindhca: It sounds like your bladder retains between 25 to 35 percent of its normal capacity after involuntary voiding. Is this correct? Link to comment
kevindhca
Rubbersheetmike, my bladder tests have shown that my bladder holds <400 ml and has ~125 ml after emptying. So functionally I am working with about 250 mls of capacity. Also, I go from not really knowing how full my bladder is to gotta go now in like 10 seconds. My recent cystoscopy showed I can't close my outer sphincter. My parents stopped putting me in diapers at night when I was 7, but woke me up every night to go to the bathroom until I was about 14. When I was 25, I began to notice more urgency and a reduction in time between bathroom trips. It was a very slow change, over many months, so I didn't really notice at first. Then I started to wet while asleep. My doctor prescribed UTI meds, but they had no effect. The urologist did a cystoscopy and found a serious bladder infection, then put the meds directly into my bladder. That got rid of the infection, but the bladder never got back to where it was before. Darn, as a dl that's really bad news. LOL. I too have post voiding leakage, but I am not totally sure if it's just urine in the urethra dribbling out or leaking past the inner sphincter. My current urologist says everything looks normal so it must be a sleep problem, not bladder. So in other words he doesn't know why I have trouble holding it, must be someone else's problem. 1 Link to comment
rubbersheetmike
kevindhca: I have post voiding leakage too but it's usually related to daytime issues rather than nighttime wetting. I can go to the bathroom in a urinal or toilet and think my bladder has emptied but then when I tuck in an zipper up there's a large wet spot in my crotch. I've had this issue for a few years now and its often embarrassing which is why I often wear pull-ups when I go out. As for nighttime, it's kind of odd that your bladder doesn't fully void when you wet in your sleep. I wonder if that's unusual? I grew up as an overly heavy sleeper with the predictable result of nighttime bedwetting but I was never tested to see if I fully voided. I think the sphincter muscles, which can often act involuntarily, play a big role. I was once told these muscles can behave in a habitual fashion, meaning that if they're used to voiding and contracting involuntarily they will continue to do so if no intervention or deliberate strengthening occurs. I was hurt in a car accident why I was young being thrown from a moving car Link to comment

oznl
As a lifelong-habituated DL, I’ve had a few sleep-wettings occur but only when diapered and some part of my brain knew it was ‘ok’ to pee in bed. Link to comment
stevewet
I have woken while peeing my bed and the flow was quite fast and I had no way of stopping it. My guess is this is normally the case. Judging by how wet my nappy usually is when I wake I would say I usually completely empty my bladder at least once during the night. Link to comment

Wet Tony
If I wake in the night it is either the sensation of being wet, or the discomfort of an erection that is constricted in a diaper. During the day It’s about 50/50 whether there is a split second feeling of pressure or the bladder suddenly empties unannounced. Link to comment
