UGH!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, we are back from our honeymoon 7 day cruise to Alaska. Normally, this would be the time we spent basking in the glow of our vacation. Unfortunately over the course of a 7 day cruise rather than gaining weight, I lost between 7 to 8 pounds which is unheard of on a cruise. The first thing we did when we got home was take home Covid tests and we are both positive. We made great friends on the cruise and exchanged social media info and the wife is on her phone notifying them right now because it’s the right thing to do. The first 2 were nurses and both tested positive already. This is our first time with Covid because our home itself is isolated and we have taken every vaccine as it became available. I have a lot to say about our trip and it looks like I’ll have plenty of time to write it while we isolate on our farm/ leper colony I just want to separate the crappy news from the good.

Hugs,

Freta

I guess I should have have spent more time on my post. Yes, we both have Covid. I'm 100% certain when we left our farm neither of us had Covid. We did not wear masks while we were away which obviously was a bad personal decision we each made. We brought masks with us and either of us could have worn one without judgement from the other but we didn't want to spend our honeymoon looking like a bandit 🙂 We both have taken every Covid vaccine as soon as it was available to us and for this reason neither of us needed to be hospitalized. It did affect our cruise as we didn't have a lot of energy so rather than being out enjoying all the ship had to offer we were in bed every night drained by 8 most nights and I spent most of 1 day wrapped up in bed. We did get out and enjoy our shore excursions at each stop. Had we not been vaccinated we may have had to be taken off the ship to a hospital. I really thought I had a respiratory infection, not Covid. I'm fairly certain I got it first and gave it to my new wife. I'm basing this assumption on the fact that I was sick in our cabin while my love was enjoying the Casino. It's almost 10 am here and my wife is still sound asleep in bed while I have been up since 3. We both have our sense of smell and taste. I'll be 70 in about 3 months but I'm confident I'll have no debilitating effects from this. Covid is never going away any more than the seasonal flu ever has. It will continue to kill some people like the very old, very young, the sick and some healthy people that don't believe in vaccines because they prefer to listen to politicians rather than Doctors and Scientists. Yes, we have Covid but I'm kicking its ass and I know the wife will too.

Hugs

Hope you feel better soon! Covid can suck, but its supposed to not be as bad if you've had the vaccines... but on a cruise who knows which variant you got that might not be fully covered yet.

My wife and I both had Covid in February under similar circumstances.

She's also 69 and got it first while I probably got it from her. We're both fully vaccinated and we felt sick for 3 or 4 days, but were mostly back to normal after that. Took about 10 days for us to test negative. Overall, it felt like a bad cold or flu.

I hope you feel better soon.

COVID is still a thing? Boy, those vaccines sure work great haha.

I really think that those vaccines screwed me up. Got the first two and never got a booster. I gave pretty bad arthritis now. I had covid before I got the vaccine.  I was asymptomatic because I never had any symptoms,  but blood donations showed the antibodies.

Covid and the vaccines are both bad for you, in my opinion.  I wish that I'd never gotten the vaccine.

I truly worry that the government push created more anti vaccers that won't get their kids the vaccines that they truly do need.

Sorry to hear you were both sick on your honeymoon cruise. Bad enough to be sick at home, for free, but out on an expensive cruise, is insult to injury. I hope you both get well soon, and can plan a new trip for the future.

That totally sucks.  A friend of mine in the medical trade doesn't call them cruise ships.  She calls them "floating petri dishes" (with limited exit strategies).

All of the evidence from my cohort is that whilst vaccines won't necessarily stop an infection, they really do limit the damage to kind of "bad cold" territory as opposed to the "possibly die" zone.

I'm still trying to work out if I've ducked infection entirely (I'm possibly a "No-vid") or, it was so minor I didn't notice it (which would still suck if you caught it off me but it wouldn't be because I'd ignored obvious symptoms).

At least you have an excuse to try again.

@FretaBWet

I am very sorry to hear that you and your partner experienced covid 19 on your honeymoon cruise. One of the things that really sucks about being sick like that, is that everybody has to be very careful what they do, where they go, and everything about what they do is carefully choreographed, and when you have a problem like COVID, you have to be extra vigilant. I can understand on your honeymoon cruise your reluctance to want to wear masks, and unfortunately I don't think COVID is going anywhere, so you just have to make sure that you are fully vaccinated, and even if you are fully vaccinated, you can still get it, but it's supposed to limit the exposure or make it less impactful.

Usually when you were on your honeymoon, you have a lot of fun, and you have a lot of good memories that you will always remember. Only thing that sucks about this situation is that the memories that you have you'll probably remember, because you ended up getting sick when you're on the ship, and you knew that you were clear before you left. I guess , All the stories about country living and all that come to mind here, because when you're in the country, you are far away from the city, the Russell and the bustle and everything else, and it's very quiet. That's why sometimes it feels like I want to go to a place like that because there's so much stuff going on in the world that it just is a mind boggling. Sometimes when you have things that go on in your life and you're not sure exactly why or what is going on, it makes it very hard. End up having your honeymoon which is something that you're supposed to remember for a long time, and you're supposed to be able to make good memories of it, and then you end up like this it makes it hard, but the thing is in COVID times, you have to be able to quickly make changes or to alter your plans a little.

Even though you have covid, you will always have each other which is important. I'm sorry that you had to go through this, and I've had to go through COVID at least once myself, and I know it stinks because you end up being so weak you don't know what's going on sometimes, and even though when I had COVID it didn't feel too bad, it was just that I was really tired, and even when I have my shots up to date, it can still hit you.

******* Hugs to both of you********  Being sick are being depressed really sucks! Good luck and hope you get better soon!

I had covid twice.  What amazed me the most was the absolute loss of my sense of smell.  Like...it was TOTALLY gone.  Truth be told...it kinda freaked me out a little.  I wondered if I'd ever get it back.  Fortunately my sense of smell returned and I've had no lingering effects from the virus.

I had it back in early ‘22. What was weird was that my sense of smell was stronger. The coffee at my job made me gag, from the smell.

@FretaBWetI am glad that you're well and encouraging others to be healthy.

However, I ask that you please show more support for people who have been adversely affected by covid/vax policies.  Many of these people are healthy adults who have lost their jobs, college degrees, social support, etc for no reason other than that they chose not to get a vaccine.  This makes it impossible for them to support themselves despite proof that they are not a public health hazard (again, many people remain healthy regardless if they are vaccinated or not.)

As much as pro-vax people cite that science and objective analysis should apply regarding medical decisions, the same should apply regarding the effects of those decisions.

There's lots of data supporting the likelihood that poor hygiene, high population densities, and meat from animals held in close quarters are the 3 biggest roots of the continued presence of disease.  The last two points have been supported by archeological records showing the emergence of infectious disease alongside cattle ranching.  Also note that Native Americans traditionally did not domesticate animals except for dogs and evidence of infectious diseases were largely absent from North America until the arrival of Europeans, while Europeans had been strugging with disease for centuries in their own land.

@Firefly 35 I think you are confusing your right to express your opinion with your desire to have your decision respected. I do 100% respect your freedom to your opinion on whether Covid vaccines are safe or unsafe, or a good or bad thing. I also respect your freedom to assess the risk and make a personal decision to not get vaccinated. I respect your rights because I in turn expect you to respect my rights in return. Anything less than this would be the height of hipocracy.

What you do not have is a "right" to be respected for your decision. You don't have the "right" to expect people to support your position when it is the opposite of their position. I do not support your decision and I'd be a liar if I told you I did. I know there are those on this site that will disagree with my position on the Covid vaccine and I'm sure some of them will not respect me because of that, but that is their right.

I will say I don't hate you in any way for having an opposing opinion. I can tell you I absolutely do not wish any harm to come to you because of your decision not to get vaccinated.

Hugs,

Freta
