overactive bladder from wearing nappies?

Recommended Posts

I think I'm starting to develop overactive bladder/urge incontinence from wearing nappies 24/7 through long binge cycles. My bladder is more sensitive and I feel the pressure/sensation to pee when my bladder is only half full. I'm using the toilet more and more. I'm getting bladder twinges and when it does twinge I have a strong urge to pee straight away. I can still hold until I make it to the toilet buts its uncomfortable. I find that if I don't use the toilet I have a constant urge to urinate.

Yesterday I was coming in from the cold and as soon as I got into the hallway of my house which was warm I instantly needed to pee like right away! I managed to the doorway of to toilet and the last few steps I involuntarily peed a few drops in my pants which each step. I relived myself and it was less then half a bladder...

When I feel a bladder twinge and I'm wearing a nappy I automatically release in my nappy and it feels a slightly more fast flow then usual, a little gush and I continue not to have th automatic clench reflex.. Which I think is muscle memory from training myself to remain open all the time. I am nappy trained.

I have mixed feelings about incontinence. When I'm in a binge I want to be incontinent and I pretend to be incontinent by wetting at the slightest urge without clenching my sphincter, I'm very good at that.. I wear for 3/6 weeks at a time - 24/7 - I can wet in any position. In a purge I defiantly don't want to be incontinent. I have been binge/pruge wearing like this for 17 years.

I don't know if to say screw it and continue to wear 24/7 and make it worse, the binge cycle makes me want to be incontinent but the purge wants be dry and continent. It really is a mental fight between IC and dryness!

What would happen if I continue to wear 24/7 to me continence wise? What is the progression?

What can I do to stop worsening symptoms but still have periods of incontinence play?

It really depends.  I have been unpotty training my bladder for over two years and you reach plateaus along the way.  In the beginning you notice any slight change that occurs with your bladder and seem to be more aware that yoir continence is changing.  However, it could be months, even years, before you experience any significant involuntary bladder loss.

I would say if you are experiencing  OAB and urge incontinence from wearing diapers to much you are already experiencing incontinence.  If you continue along this path it is quite possible that your continence will diminish.

I agree with Mark you are probably approaching the point of the possibility of needing diapers 24/7 for a real incontinence issue since you are experiencing accidents out of diapers and decreasing hold times (need to pee more often).  if you continue on the path you are on wearing and using diapers chances are in a short time it may no longer be an option not to wear.

it’s possible you may have already crossed the line for needing diapers at least for a just incase you do not make the bathroom but only time will tell if you want to keep your retention stop wearing and using diapers and try to increase your hold time. If you decide to continue wearing and using diapers you might as well bite the bullet and let nature take its course and loose the rest of you continence as its only a matter of time any ways if you wear 24/7 for long periods of time.

This is why urologists do not recommend diapers to deal with bladder issues as remaining continence loss is almost guaranteed I know mine has but I had no real choice but to wear 24/7.

I totally agree with both answers to me it looks like you have already reached the inevitable result of too much playing at being incontinent.

I'm going to find it difficult to stop wearing especially when I'm in a binge. I have struggled with maintaining a wear/not wear life balance.

I find myself drinking moderate amounts of fluids over a long duration and sitting on my computer chair reading things on the internet.. I lean slightly with my arms resting on my computer table... Because I have slight pressure on my bladder when my bladder fills I get a very strong urge to pee. I can very easily wet and I begin to pee and its only a slow flow as it feels like my urethra is kinked but I can still continue a steady flow. (I will stand up without clenching and it gushes in a small/fast flow without the clench at the end) The amount I've peed is disproportionate to how my bladder has felt as it does feel much fuller. I can wet while maintaining a completely relaxed and open sphincter muscle without even a slight clench. When sitting I start feeing the urge to pee even before I have any urine to pee... when it reaches the right pressure I wet in a little stream/gush again... This happens all throughout the day.

I practice concentrating on the feeling of a completely relaxed and open sphincter. When I'm doing this I always have a mild urge to pee even when I've just peed..When I'm standing or walking I can pee very easily and its more like weeping and little dribbles throughout the day. I practice concentrating with a open sphincter while I'm walking, sitting, laying on the settee and laying in bed.. I can pee in all positions. The only time I automatically clench is when I sneeze..

I practice this every time I'm in a binge.

It takes some time to adjust to wearing underwear again. It only used to take a couple of days before the urge to want to pee all the time died down...Then it was back to normal.

Things I've noticed with decline in my continence... First it was post micturition dribble, I would and - still do - involuntarily pee on the floor while I'm having a bowel movement.. I always leave a puddle on the floor when having a poo... I can't last through two beers or through a cinema showing without having a strong urge to pee and using the toilet. Occasionally when peeing in the toilet I end up leaving a large wet patch on my trousers as my stream has been very uneven and not a strong straight line in the toilet bowl like it used to be. The bladder twinges which leave me needing the toilet straight away.

I don't want incontinence, incontinence will ruin my trips abroad but I can't stop the binge cycle.. and I like simulating incontinence.

If wearing diapers, even 24/7 causes OAB and urge incontinence, a lot more people on DD would be incontinent.

I wondered the same thing until I got urinary tract infection and saw a urologist. The problem is my prostate, and some early test results suggested the possibility of a more severe issue (cancer).

I suggest seeing a specialist. Be open about wearing if you want to be, but it’s worth getting checked out.

My situation is very similar to yours. I’m a lifelong bedwetter, so I’ve always worn diapers to bed but after wearing during the day (often through laziness than anything else) that started my declining continence. It started with having to go more frequently and feeling the need to go all the time. I began to experience post void dribbles plus not quite making it to the bathroom in time, I’d have a wet spot before I got my pants down. This affected my confidence in staying dry, so I was always in pull ups “just in case”.

Around that time I got very down about it all, and tried to re toilet train but I was not successful, the stress and worry of accidents was too much. I also found that there were several things that were just impossible without protection. Cinema trips, long journeys, going any place where I’d be far from a restroom. At this point I finally accepted that I wasn’t day dry, and hadn’t been for quite some time. I’m now permanently in diapers.

From what you’ve said, you are already incontinent. It’s probably habitual rather than physical, but that doesn’t mean that retraining will be easy. I wouldn’t risk at this point, being out in public without protection, you’re probably not very far away from your first accident. Use time when you’re home alone to “air out”. Use a chair pad or sit on your diaper, you’ll get a good idea of what your bladder is doing. Don’t worry about travel, I travel a lot and as a diaper wearer, it’s much easier than you might think.

Traveling with incontinence issues makes it a bit more challenging but will not prevent you from traveling or ruin your trip (unless you do not pack enough supplies) . Most airlines will fly a bag of medical supplies for free or you can alway drop ship to your hotel a head of time.

You really need to decide quickly if you want to keep continence but like Steve said you may have already crossed a line and have lost some of your control. A trip to the urologist would be a good Idea to make sure all is ok and to help regain any control you have already lost.  Reading your last post  really looks like you are at the point of becoming incontinent for real and wearing diapers will  be a need not a choice.

Remember to be careful for what you wish for or simulate  you may get it

Not all. I asked SN Brussels Airlines and they said no, pay for extra piece of baggage. Best thing is to inquire in advance.

But for me, travelling diapered is really a blessing, so much more comfortable, no more stressing on having to go often and no more pain etc, I change in the restroom before boarding the plane and all is well.

If I actually get the chance to wear for 4 or 5 days in a row and then go to just underwear I have the feeling of needing to go. There is usually a little that comes out but not as much as normal. I have excellent control 99% of the time but it's just for several hours after stopping diapers that it happens. I'm guessing most people would have some of the same feelings or it could just be me.

I have the same experience. The doctor is on my case about the prostate (I'm 60) but is confused because I don't actually have the usual symptoms. I go "pee" frequently because I wear diapers (for recreation) during the day. If I go a couple days without wearing, my frequency decreases so I know it's from wearing diapers because I don't have any problems "going."

I think it is more of just to worrying about it because you know you are diapered.  I am incontinent, but I am sure I wet more then just because of the incontinence due to the fact I know I am protected and do not have to worry about it.

Ha, wait until you get a bit older say in your sixties. The urge to pee and or not being able to hold it becomes more of a problem.

I’m only 55, and find it impossible to keep from wetting myself.

This is after 35 years of wearing diapers and wetting them at the slietest feeling of needing to go pee.

Now I am not complaining mind you, as I set out to achieve just such results and am happy to say I achieved it.
