Changing Your Diaper In Public

Recommended Posts

A different discussion in this forum highlighted a con to wearing diapers permanently is the need to change your diaper in public.  I wanted to share with the forum the ways I change in public when I want to be super discreet.  I say that because sometimes I do not care how discreet I am and any old restroom stall will suffice.  Other times I feel embarrassed and want my diaper change to be as private as possible when in public.

The very best place I have found to change your diaper in public is single restrooms.  This would include family restrooms but those are not my preferred place to change.  This is because the stares you may get when you exit a family restroom from a mother with a crying baby in her hands that has been waiting on you while you changed your diaper.  I have gotten some "if looks could kill" before particularly at an airport.  People just automatically assume that you were just too lazy to use your designated restroom and have no idea you wanted privacy to change a diaper you a wearing.

What I have found to be most ideal is smaller fast food restaurants and gas stations.  Sandwich shops like Subway, Jersey Mike's, and Potbellys for whatever reason always seem to have single restrooms.  Walking into one during lunch time they are always busy and heading to their restrooms with a backpack on your back with your diaper supplies in it goes completely unnoticed.  Another thing for what ever reason these restrooms have large trashcans which is always a plus when disposing of your used diaper.  Smaller gas stations are normally the same but generally a lot more dirtier.  These restrooms may or may not have a larger trashcans as it definately varies from place to place.  As far as gas stations go I recommmend staying away from the large service stations like Pilot if you desire to change your diaper in a more private setting.  These restrooms normally have a ton of stalls and a lot of traffic and offer very little when it comes to privacy.

I have heard that McDonalds is not a great place to change before but I feel the opposite.  I love when I find a McDonalds because they almost always only have one stall and they are large.  The toliet normally sits in the corner and there is a nice wall between you and the public as opposed to a thin stall with a big gap in it.  Also, generally there is an nice side door near the restroom which makes it more discreet for you to slip in and out discreetly.  For the ladies that wear diapers I am not sure how this applies and it could be a different situation in your restrooms.

The worst place I have found to have privacy when changing your diaper in public is at an airport.  The stalls are many and seem to have large gaps between the doors.  All airports do have a family restroom somewhere and I recommend you find these if you want some privacy.  Another place that is similar are rest areas, particularly smaller ones.  When travelling by car I would recommend changing at the smaller gas stations if you need privacy.

My local Chick-Fil-A had a diaper genie in the stall.

Of late I've been checking out family restrooms looking for good changing places.    One local mall has three individual bathrooms, lockable, each with a rather substantial countertop changing area.

I don't like changing in public conveniences, but sometime I have to.  I know what you mean Mark - I'm uncomfortable in stalls in a busy service station.  Big gaps at top & bottom of the doors, & trying to avoid making any giveaway noises.  Big shops tend to be better, as they're a bit quieter.  I don't really like using the disabled/baby changing places, as I don't like holding up other people, who, let's face it, I shouldn't really be holding up.  But at least once I'm in there, I've got the privacy.  Mind you , I'm never that comfortable in busy places anyway, & live out in the country.  Best places to change are a quiet place in the woods, or the corner of a field, for me, although I'm still looking round all the time & trying to be as quick as I can.  What other choice is there when you're out for a walk?

I have changed in a McDonalds restroom in the handicap stall.  I waited until I heard the one guy already in there leave, then I quickly tore off my diaper and taped on a fresh one before someone else came in.  Unfortunetly, I hadn't realized when the one person walked out, another cane in at the same time!  I walked out of the stall with my wet diaper in hand thinking I was alone only to find a guy standing by the sink grinning at me!

I found that CVS drug stores, Gordon Foods and Harbor Freight all have restrooms with outer door locks.  Even some WalMart stores have a family restroom in the back by the customer pick up department.   Yes, I have changed my diapers in Family restrooms and have never run into anyone waiting to go in themselves.  If anyone ever questioned me about using one, I would tell them I am incontinent and needed to change my disposable brief in privet rather than in the public restrooms.  With that in mind, most public restrooms have changing tables for parents to change their kids diapers.  If they decide to use a family restroom instead of the regular restroom to change their kids diapers, it is the exact same situation as me wanting to use the family restroom to change my own diaper rather than changing it in the public restroom.

I never really thought of it like that.  Makes perfect sense but I also know the kinds of evil stares I have been given.  I try to shrug it off and act like I do not care but I also know how hard it can be with kids as a father especially when travelling.  I actually just changed in the mens room at Atlanta airport (I am here all the time and I know the best public restrooms).  One restroom has about 12 stalls and the handicapped stall is at the very end.  Thanks to our lazy society it is almost always open as well as the last two or three stalls.  I left the stall proud today holding my used diaper in my hand.  No one even noticed because everyone was busy doing their business lol.

That is awesome.  Sounds like I need to add Chick-fil-a as a good place to change privately.

I'm still young and nimble so I've found ways to quickly change in regular bathroom stalls. Best advice I could give is to find a stall that is set against a wall on one side. I don't generally care about taking my rolled up used diaper to the garbage in full sight but if you do, recommend bringing some plastic bags to wrap it in to throw it out in the bathroom or somewhere else.

Most times, I always wear at home when I don't have to go out. I do wear a diaper out for "Weekend Morning Drives" though, but all that consists of is usually an hour drive out in the country to watch the sunrise and then back home. I rarely have to change away from home. I have found the same though...smaller gas stops are my favorite place to change if needed. They offer single restrooms which provide wanted privacy. I've even stopped at town parks before because of the same reason...small, single, private restroom. I don't really care what others think as well...so no biggie for me, but I do want to be somewhat discrete about it!

Changing in public gets easier over time, I really do not worry or think about who may be in the washroom at the same time or what they may or may not think if the see or hear me changing I am stuck in diapers for a medical issue and have no issues talking about it when the subjet comes up or some one notices.

I can only recall one instance where I needed to change in a crowded restroom.  I was using the old style Depend at the time and it was pretty much full to bursting.  I felt pretty self conscious as I tore off each individual tape which produces that distinctive sound.  I managed to get it all rolled up into a tight diaper ball but it was pretty obvious to everyone there what I had in my hands as I exited the stall.  I didn't see any obvious glances my way but I hustled out of there double time.....

That was many years ago now.  I haven't had to change in a crowed restroom since.  Now I just find single stall washrooms if I need to change.

I do not like to change in a public washroom, but I’ve done so many time. I just go into a stall, change and then dispose of the wet diaper in the bathroom trash container. Other people in the washroom have never made any kind of comment about my activities.

Changing ones diaper in a public restroom is no problem if you are not worried about being found out. I've changed my wet diaper in many a public restrooms and have been seen many times disposing of the used diaper in the trash, seldom have I every even raised an eyebrow.    It seems the more you try not to get caught changing the more you fear getting caught, si best advice is just go in and change your diaper and don't worry about it.

This post was intended more for those that are shy about having to change their diaper when out and about and alternate ways to do so and be somewhat in private.  Even someone like me that wears diapers permanently I sometimes get a little shy and I really am not sure why it happens.

I never want anyone I know to find out I like wearing diapers.  If I was around town and had diapers on that needed changing, I would be very shy about doing so in any place where people I might know could suddenly walk in.  I live in a small town and I have run into people I know while out shopping in WalMart, other stores and the like.  If anyone I know ever saw me in a diaper or changing a diaper, they would say, "WTF? What are you wearing a diaper for?  You don't wear diapers or have medical issues!" Usually when I wear in public it's the few times a year when I go out of town shopping, such as Christmas time.  Out of town in a big city there is a lot less chance I'll run into anyone I know when wearing diapers.  I still am shy changing in a public restroom with others knowing by the sounds that I'm in a stall changing a diaper.  I will use the privet one at a time restrooms in the stores I have mentioned, but should someone notice I'm changing my diaper, they will most likely be people I don't know and will probably never see again, and they wouldn't know me or that I'm not really incontinent and don't really need to wear diapers for medical reasons.  For all they know I need diapers medically and I'm just taking care of my needs.  It would still be too embarrassing and akwards to walk out of a bathroom stall in front of other men with a wet diaper in my hand!  Even if you want to "get the hell out of there" as quick as possible, you still have to dispose of the used diaper in the trash and wash and dry your hands!  Embarrassing with other guys looking at you knowing you are wearing diapers!

Are you padded at the casino today?  I hope you have some good luck!

Not going to the casino today!  Can't afford it and just staying home relaxing.  Usually when I go to the casino I go with a friend and would never wear a diaper.  One time I did have to be in that area for another reason and was wearing diapers.  I decided to stop by the casino and play a bit, maybe 20 minutes.  It was still too close to my own town and I run into people I know there at times.  I didn't have a lot of time anyway, but I did play for about 20 minutes in thicker wet diapers.  Since my friend goes to the casino's 2 or 3 times a week, I never know if I'll run into him when I'm there on my own.

I always try to go to public (preferably  handicap)   toilets with single   boots   or  try to wait until home again  , if thats not an option i would  go  to gas station, fail that   a remote   part  out in the woods  and change out there   i mean whats the choice  ?   Im always   prepared   for any emergency with my diaper bag

I never go anywhere without a backpack in case I need to change. It's rare but there is always that chance. I always know where to find a bathroom. That's just something you have to do. Going to a public restroom is no problem because I don't care who hears, listens or is hanging around. That's their problem. My problem is getting changed and that's all I'm focused on. Never once has anybody said anything.

As mentioned by several users above single bathrooms are definitely the best. I live in the UK and the best places I've found are coffee shops as they normally have large toilet rooms that have sanitary bins so you can easily dispose of nappies really easily.

i have worn diapers out with friends to the bar with my wife.  (Wife was the only one that knew i was wearing).  Well lets just say that after 3 hours of drinking my diaper was rather full (Tena Maxi Slip Medium).  It was on the edge of bursting open, ended up soaking it 4 or 5 times.  We ended up leaving and i went into the walmart bathroom around midnight and changed out of my wet diaper.  I just wrapped it up and carried it out of the stale and placed it in the trash.  At that point in time i was to tired and slightly buzzed to care.  But all in all a great experience.
