Chapter 5: Bonding

-Victoria-

Infernum Infantem – LittleFallenPrincess

My heart was racing as I nervously escorted my… visitor to the kitchen.

How on Earth did we get to this point? Me escorting a demon to find some proper food for her to eat. Letting a demon free from her binding circle, just because I felt… oddly protective of her

Like she was a pet… or a child.

But considering she’s six times older than me… she was no more of a child than I was. After hearing about her diet though, I felt like I needed to take care of her for some reason.

So as I walked up the wooden stairs towards the Grand Hall, I gripped the demon’s hand tightly as she followed close behind me.

I was still half expecting her to stab me in the back, or start gnawing on my arm… but that binding circle was perfect, there was no way she could lie without suffering excruciating pain. Geoff had added that to the design just in case we summoned something else. I mean… we weren’t expecting it, our confidence in our abilities and research meant that we had our heads up our own arses really, we never expected anything to go wrong. But we had to make sure that if something did… we were prepared.

Originally, I was planning on leaving her in the circle, interrogating the demon until she promised us power, or some way to fix our mistake. But seeing her there, alone and confused… I don’t know, something overcame me and I felt like I just had to take care of her. She looked so… lost.

And as we reached the top of the stairs, I opened it and pulled her into the Grand Hall.

“Jeez… looks like someone did alright for herself…” The demon said as she stared in awe at the grandiose hallway that led to every wing in the estate.

“I suppose so. Are you impressed?” I asked as I escorted her down the dimly lit hallway, towards the kitchen, the sound of my heels being muffled by the rug that stretched the whole length of the hall.

Whilst my study was very modern, some parts of the mansion were still how they were when I inherited it all those years ago. Classic brickwork, wallpaper that was older than I was, a wooden floor that was older than all my associates put together. Think big Edwardian country house… that’s most of my estate. And due to it being the dead of night outside, the only light illuminating the hall were the ancient dim lights, which hadn’t been replaced since before I moved in. They provided just enough of a dim radiance that we could make our way to the kitchen.

And despite being in a cult, being aware of the supernatural and now summoning a demon… the dimly lit hallway still gave me the creeps as we walked down it.

“I mean… It's not bad. It's a bit fancy for me. I’m a simple demon though, give me a big TV and a comfy sofa and I’m happy.”

“You mean like…” I made a bit of a diversion on our way to the kitchen, stopping outside of a room along the way. I just had to see her reaction, so I grasped the door handle and swung the door open, revealing the surprise inside.

“Jesus titty-fucking-christ!” She cried out, looking around at the enormous TV screen and the large sofas that resembled a small in-house cinema of some sort.

I didn’t say anything in response to her language, I just looked down at her with disappointment. As soon as she realised I hadn’t said anything, she turned and looked up at me.

“I… umm… sorry… It’s… um…. Nice?” She corrected herself.

“Better. Now let’s get going, the kitchen is just a bit further on.”

“Further? How long is this fu… flipping hallway?” She said, correcting herself before she could swear again.

“Not much longer. Come along…” I said, closing the door in her face and pulling her along behind me as I walked to the kitchen.

“Sit down.” I ordered to my demoness guest calmly as I walked over to the fridge to find some food I could cook for her.

I could hear her shuffle the chair back from the dining table and sit down as I rummaged around the fridge.

The dining table in the kitchen was where I ate most of my meals. I much preferred the comfort of this casual dining experience than eating in the room where I hosted my exquisite dinners for my associates and other guests.

In here I could have a nice chat with Beatrice whilst she cleaned up, I also invited her to eat with me in here as often as I could.

It’s nowhere near as fancy as my main dining hall, the table in here was just a basic wooden dining table with some very basic, slightly uncomfortable matching wooden chairs.

“Any allergies?” I asked her. “Wait, can demons even have allergies?”

“I… don’t think we can. So no.” She answered.

“Good. Let’s just get something simple and nutritious down you.”

“But I told you… food doesn’t…”

I cut her off.

“Doesn’t matter. You’re not living on energy drinks and cheesy puffs or whatever they’re called whilst you’re under my roof.”

“And how long will I be under your roof? You never really told me what you want from me.” She replied.

“I… want to know more about you. My associates would interrogate you, most likely with sharp instruments and whatever spells they can conjure. I…”

“You’re not like them though. I can tell.” She said with intrigue in her voice, interrupting me this time.

“You’re not wrong dear. You were truthful with me before, and I’m hoping you’ll continue to be truthful with me even without the binding circle. I need to know what you can offer, as well help us figure out what went wrong with our ritual.”

“We’ll see…” She said, sitting back and crossing her arms.

“Ma’am? What are you doing? If you wanted a sandwich I would have happily…” Beatrice appeared in the kitchen doorway, looking at me.

Dressed in her usual maid outfit, with her red hair tied up into a bun, her determined green eyes staring daggers at me… she always lit up the room with her presence. And don’t think I make my only staff member dress like this… I assure you… it was her idea with the maid uniform. Hey, you won’t get any kink-shaming from me.

As I looked up to greet her and explain everything, she looked over to our newest guest. “WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?” She screamed.

“She, Beatrice, is our guest. And I bid you show her the same respect you would show any of my guests.” I said, stopping Beatrice in her tracks, preventing her from panicking and running for the hills.

“But… Ma’am… she’s a…” Beatrice said, pointing at my guest, visibly shaking in fear.

“A demon, yes. But she’s my guest. I’m just making her some food.”

“You’re making… a demon… food?”

“The poor dear lives on soda and crisps.”

It was at that moment that all fear in Beatrice’s voice and all outward showing of the emotion just… stopped. Like a switch in her had been pushed.

“Oh well that won’t do! Ma’am, let me take over, you go sit down with our guest.” Beatrice said, surprising not only myself, but apparently the demon sat at the table too, as Niathruxzon’s eyebrow raised in confusion.

“If you insis…”

Beatrice rushed over and shuffled me out of the kitchen area and over to the dining table where our guest sat.

“I do. Now you relax.” Beatrice ordered.

“And you’re okay with a demon being here?” I asked her.

“Oh shush. We can’t let the poor girl go without something proper to eat!”

Beatrice was a Godsend. She cooked for me, cleaned the estate, and kept the estate in order… She was my right hand woman. On the books she’s my housekeeper, but she’s basically my partner at this point.

I sat across the table from my new guest, looking her in the eyes.

I must say… those greyish-blue eyes are very unusual for a demon. At least from what I’ve read anyway.

She looked up at me, looking at me like she was staring into my soul. Her tail was flicking back and forth behind her. I had no idea what that meant, but I couldn’t help but compare the action to that of a cat… which would mean she was either hunting… a bad sign for me and Beatrice… or irritated.

Which could also be a bad sign for me and Beatrice…

“Your…” The demon looked to Beatrice, who was currently making the girl some food.

“Housekeeper.” I replied.

“Your housekeeper is… umm… interesting.” Niathruxzon commented.

“Beatrice is lovely. I don’t know what I’d do without her. If you are ever in need of food, clothing, anything… you ask me or her. Understood?”

“Yes…” She stopped mid-sentence, looking confused. “Umm… Hey, what do I call you? If I’m gonna be stuck here for a while, I may as well know what name to use for you.”

“Victoria. Victoria Delacroix. And your name was… Niathrux… Niathrow… Ni…”

“Niathruxzon. Queen of the Underworld.”

“Really?”

‘Queen? Did I just summon the freaking Queen of Hell?’ I thought to myself, my brain panicking as it tried to process this revelation.

She burst into laughter suddenly.

“Haha no! I’m a nobody. Which is why I really don’t understand how you could have summoned me. I purposefully stay off people’s radars just so I stay out of ancient texts and summoning rituals. This… this is the first time anyone has summoned me.”

“Why though? Don’t demons who get summoned make deals?” I asked.

“Yeah… but that’s effort. Imagine you’re in the middle of something, having fun… then you’re yanked to Earth to fulfil some creepy man’s request. And what do you get? His soul? Whoop-de-doo. I wouldn’t even get to torture the guy if I had his soul, it’d just be fed into the machine once he died, and assigned to the best demons for the specific torture needed. And me… I don’t get anyone good. Just nerds.”

“I noticed the GameGirl…”

“You play?” Her face lit up suddenly, her voice sounding… excited.

“Not in a long time. So… Niathr…”

“Niathruxzon.”

“Is it okay if I call you Nia?”

She sighed at me, which was nearly muffled by the sounds of cooking in the background.

“...Fine.”

“Okay Nia, what is your job in Hell then?” I asked, trying to find out more information about her and her life.

“Oh it’s so cool! I have my own lair and everything…” She perched one leg bent up on the edge of the chair, wrapping her arms around it. I could tell she was excited to tell me about this, she sounded really enthusiastic… which was actually pretty adorable. “I get nerds and I crush their souls by constantly beating them at the games they loved in life.”

“So you literally just play video games to torture people?”

“Yeah, pretty much. It’s so much fun though!”

“Do you not torture anyone else in any other way?”

“Nope. Just angry video game nerds who love to put others down.”

As I looked up, Beatrice walked over with a couple of plates in her hands.

“Here you go Ma’am. I got you something too.” She said, pushing the plates towards Nia and I. It wasn’t much, but a late night sausage sandwich was a perfect snack.

“You didn’t need to, I’m not that…” I replied, unable to finish my sentence before being cut off by Bea.

“Shush. You’ve not eaten all evening. You need to keep your strength up.”

Beatrice was too good for me. Always looking out for me and making sure I’m taking care of myself.

“...Thank you Beatrice. Take the rest of the evening off.”

Beatrice smiled down at me and turned to leave, before I stopped her.

“Hey Beatrice?” I called her back.

“Yes Ma’am?” She asked.

“Take tomorrow off too. You can take my car for a drive. Go treat yourself to something, on me.”

“Wait… you mean…” Her face lit up, just like Nia’s did when she was talking about video games.

“Yes, the car you love. Go on, go get some rest. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Night Ma’am. Goodnight… Nia…” Beatrice said, nodding her head at me and Nia before leaving us to eat the snack she had lovingly prepared for us.

“That was… nice of you.” Nia said, grabbing the sandwich with both hands, before shoving it into her face, tomato ketchup dripping down her chin.

“Manners…”

“Ooops… sowwy…” she said with her mouth full.

“And no speaking with your mouth full. But yes, she deserves it. Plus we can just take my other car.”

“Wait… we’re… going out?”

“I take it you’ve not been to Earth recently?” I asked.

“Only a few times, but not in the past few decades at least.”

“Then I’m taking you shopping, and you’re going to tell me more about yourself and what you can offer me and my associates.”

“But why wait until then? Don’t you want information now?” Nia asked, confused again.

“No, for now… we eat. Then we’re going to get you settled in your room for the night. No use conducting business at such a late hour.”

“My… room?”

“Yeah, I’ll show you once we’ve finished eating.”

She didn’t need a push, within seconds of her nodding to me she shoved the sandwich back into her mouth, like a child.

Normally manners like that would bother me, and I’d snap at her to not be so brutish.

But… something about her childish manner was… endearing. So I kept quiet and smiled at her as she devoured the sandwich.

We walked along the corridor towards the spare room I chose for Nia. The heavy rain outside was crashing against the windows along the corridor.

“Weather is bad tonight…” Nia commented.

Just then, a flash of lightning illuminated the dimly lit, creepy corridor we walked down. Quickly followed by the roar of thunder.

“That’s pretty close. Does it bother you?” I asked her, feeling genuine concern for… a demon.

“Storms? No, I quite like them actually.”

“Figured.”

“How so?” She asked.

“You’re a demon.”

“Oh that’s not a demon thing. There’s this one demon who is terrified of them. Me… I just like listening to the rain and the thunder. It relaxes me. Been decades since I got to experience it though.”

“Well you need to get some sleep, but you can stay up for a bit to listen to it if you wish.”

“I… don’t actually need to sleep.”

“I wondered that. But still, I want you in bed.”

“Yes… Ma’am…” She said, in that bratty teenage tone. I wasn’t looking at her, I was busy leading the way to her room, but I could just tell her tongue was being stuck out towards me.

“What’s this room?” Nia asked, stopping suddenly.

Turning around, I looked at the door she was talking about.

“Ah. That one.” I replied, sighing.

“Why does it have a crown carved into the door?” She asked.

“That… was to be my baby’s room. The one we were supposed to summon. But we summoned you instead. You can still have the room if you want?” I teased, grinning at her.

“Oi! I’m not a baby! I’m older than you!”

Her crimson cheeks brightened slightly, I could tell she was blushing, which made my heart flutter for some reason.

‘What is this strange feeling I have? This… connection?’ I thought as I turned around, avoiding looking at Nia’s adorable face.

“Right, let’s continue to your room then.” I said, taking the lead once again.

Reaching the spare room I chose for Nia, the best one I have, I opened it and showed the girl in.

“This isn’t bad… could do with a bit of… comfort though.” She said as she looked around at the spare room.

“Comfort? I assure you, I only choose the best materials and craftsmen to fit my rooms.”

“Yeah… it’s nice… but it feels… lifeless?”

She wasn’t wrong. It was a lavish room, with expensive curtains, a four poster bed in the centre of the room against the wall, an ornate dresser and wardrobe… It was like any other expensive manor bedroom. But it lacked character. It lacked… personality.

My study was modern and filled with mementos and artwork that I hand picked. My bedroom was very much the same. As was my living room. But my guest bedrooms… They were picked for the type of guests who usually stay over. Rich snobs who love anything expensive, but lack taste.

“Well we can find a few things for you tomorrow to fill your room.” I suggested.

“How long am I staying?” Nia asked.

“I don’t know, but even if it is just a couple of nights, I’d rather you feel comfortable.”

“Why? Why are you being so nice to me? I’m a demon!” She asked.

“Because you trusted me with the truth earlier. And I’m repaying that kindness. Anyway, you settle in. Be up early tomorrow, as I’ll cook us breakfast and then we’ll head out shopping. Then when we return, we’ll have a little… talk. Goodnight Nia.”

“Goodnight Victoria.” She said, jumping onto the bed and collapsing backwards, her head hitting the pile of pillows at the head of the bed.

Closing the door behind me as I left her alone, I took a deep breath.

‘Also because I… I can’t help feeling protective over you.’ I thought to myself, heading off to my own bedroom.

This is really cute. It's interesting see how the human is honestly more old fashion then the demon.

Chapter 6: Morning After

-Nia-

Infernum Infantem – LittleFallenPrincess

I tossed and turned all night.

I wasn’t lying when I told Victoria that I don’t need to sleep.

I did forget to mention that I can, and actually enjoy sleeping.

But tonight… Tonight I couldn’t sleep.

I spent most of the night pacing around my room, trying to work out what the hell was going on.

‘‘My room’… that’s still weird.’ I thought to myself.

Like, I have my lair back in hell… but I’ve never had a room of my own. I’ve squatted in other people’s houses and rooms when I’ve possessed them, but I’ve never had a room that was mine. And my lair was more of a workplace than a place I could make my own.

My head swirled with thoughts and feelings, feelings I had never felt before. I’m a demon for fuck’s sake, all I feel is the pleasure of torturing humans, and occasionally feeding. It’s a simple life. Sure, I enjoyed that vacation on Earth decades ago. But these feelings I had right now? They were like nothing I had ever felt before.

I almost felt like I… cared… about Victoria.

Like… when she was talking whilst we were eating… I genuinely enjoyed listening to every word she had to say. Normally words coming out of a human’s mouth that aren't ‘Please, end it!’ bore the Hell out of me. But I felt like I could listen to her forever. Her voice made my insides feel… weird. Not a bad weird. Which is actually a good weird for demons. But a good weird… which is just plain weird for a demon like me. Fuck, I’m not good at explaining this. I HATE EMOTIONS. IT’S JUST WEIRD, OKAY!?

Why did this babe have to fuck up their ritual and summon me? Why can’t I just be back in Hell, torturing nerds again?

Oh right yeah… because I’m bound to this plane of existence now.

Even after breaking me free of the binding circle, I couldn’t escape back to Hell. Believe me, I tried. Many times. I even tried it whilst shoving that delicious sandwich into my mouth. But no matter what, I couldn’t travel to Hell. Not like I used to.

My only theory is something to do with that ritual they cast. For some reason it’s bound me to this plane of existence, making it impossible for me to escape. I wouldn’t tell Victoria for now, I need keep my cards close to my chest, find out more about this ritual and this fucked up cult. Then when I’ve broken whatever spell is keeping me here, I’ll escape back to Hell and hide away in my lair for a few centuries until this cult has disappeared and my name has been forgotten about.

And then there’s this woman. Victoria. She was so… friendly. I wasn’t used to it. The red skin, horns and tail usually scare people off. But she… she wants to take me shopping. Which made me wonder how we’re going to do that with my current appearance. I mean, I don’t mind… I get to scare a few humans if people see me like this, but I couldn’t help but think why Victoria was okay with me doing so. Surely she knows what kind of reaction my appearance will generate?

Thankfully, the rain and thunder prevented my brain from overloading. It had been decades since I last heard it, and it always brought peace to my heart. Calming me down, I processed everything that had happened, from the ritual to this weird feeling I have whenever I’m around Victoria. And then I planned my escape.

‘First… interrogate this woman. Find out more about her cult and this ritual. Then find a way to break whatever is keeping me here. Then kill the lot of them and escape.’

----------------------------------------------------------

“Wakey wakey!” I heard a chipper voice coming from my room.

I couldn’t tell who it was, as I was currently in the bathroom. I needed to pass the time so I had decided to have a shower once the sun had risen. I hadn’t had one in forever… no need to in Hell. And I figured I should get the smell of ash and hellfire off my skin if I was to be around humans today.

“Who is it?” I shouted back.

“It’s Beatrice, Ma’am.” She said, her voice getting louder… closer.

“I’ll be out in a bit…” I shouted back to her.

“Don’t worry about it, I’m just taking your clothes.” I heard her from the doorway this time… meaning she was just a few feet away now.

“My clothes? Why? They’re mine…”

“And they smell of smoke and they’re covered in ash. I’ll give them a nice wash.”

“But… but what am I supposed to wear in the meantime?”

“You’re about my size, so I’ve left a lovely summer dress of mine on your bed.”

“Summer… dress? Eww!” I replied in disgust.

“I could always leave you to walk around naked if you want… Would you like that instead? Eh? Little nakey demon walking about…” Beatrice’s voice suddenly went from sickly sweet… to authoritative. The same voice I’d use on my victims in Hell.

I didn’t care that she had spoken to me in that manner. I’m not like my siblings, I don’t get all pompous and demanding about being called different titles or being treated with respect…

What I did care about was the feeling inside of me as she spoke down to me. It was… humiliating… and…

…good.

“I thought so. The dress and some sandals are waiting for you on your bed when you’ve finished in the shower.” She said.

“I… thought you were taking the day off.”

“I am. I’m doing this because I want to. Once your clothes are in the dryer, I’m heading out. Breakfast is on the table when you’re done. Miss Victoria is waiting for you. You know the way. Don’t be long.” She ordered.

“Yes Miss…” I said, without thinking.

‘MISS? YOU’RE A TORTURER OF SOULS IN THE UNDERWORLD, NIATHRUXZON! WHY ARE YOU BEING SO POLITE AND… GOOD?’ I screamed to myself as the water from the shower washed over my hair, horns and face, streaming down my slender body.

“Good girl. See you later.” Beatrice said, walking out.

My stomach felt… odd. Like… really odd. Like… moths were fluttering about in it? Or flies. Or… I don’t know. Something fluttery. It was weird. A feeling I had only felt once before…

With Victoria.

I walked into the kitchen wearing the bright yellow summer dress that Beatrice had left for me, along with some sandals left along with it. I felt ridiculous. Never in a million years would I wear such clothing.

But as Victoria’s face perked up upon seeing me in the doorway wearing it… I suddenly didn’t care. As if I… actually cared about what she wanted. Eww.

Sitting at the dining table in the kitchen, she had her hands wrapped around a mug, sipping what looked like tea, whilst wearing a strappy top, jeans and flats. She looked so… casual compared to yesterday, even her blonde hair was put up in a bun with two wispy strands of hair framing her beautiful face.

Shaking my head, trying to erase those thoughts from my mind, I shuffled over to the table and sat across from her, where there was a plate of food awaiting me.

Using my hands, I shovelled the delicious food into my mouth without thinking, trying to avoid eye contact with Victoria, who couldn’t keep her eyes off me apparently. If I focused on the food, I didn’t have to talk or deal with these stupid emotions.

“You look beautiful…” Victoria said, taking a sip of her tea.

My eyes crept upwards, to see her smiling and looking directly at me.

“I… thanks. You too. Umm…” I didn’t know what to say, so I carried on grabbing handfuls of food and shoving them into my mouth.

“I really need to teach you some manners. You’re like a baby…”

I felt my cheeks warming up again, just like yesterday. And I hated it.

Ignoring that comment, I tried changing the topic… between mouthfuls.

“So… today… shopping… but… public… demon… horns… skin… how…?”

“Slow down, and finish eating before speaking sweetie.” She said, making the warmth in my cheeks increase.

“Sorry…”

“It’s okay. And I assume you’re asking about our plans today? Yes, I intend to take you shopping. Beatrice was lovely enough to lend you her dress… which looks lovely on you by the way… but you’ll need a wardrobe of your own. Plus maybe we could find some things for your room so you can make it more yours.”

“I… but why?” I asked, swallowing the final scrap of food.

“Why what?”

“Why do this? Surely we’ll make a deal, you’ll get what you want, and I’ll go back to Hell. Why get me a wardrobe full of clothes? And why fix up the room I’m staying in?”

“We don’t know how long this will take to fix. And I don’t know… I’d just like to spend more time with you before sending you back off to Hell. At the very least I’d like to send you back with some better clothes.”

“I… umm… okay… but how are we doing this? Won’t I be an issue in public?” I asked, pointing to the horns on top of my head.

“Don’t worry about that. I’ve got a plan for that too.” She said, taking another sip of her tea, a smile forming behind the cup.

“And that is?”

“Follow me to my study.” She said, putting her cup down and standing up, the chair she was sitting on screeched as it scraped across the tiled floor.

“Umm.. okay…” I said, wiping my mouth with my arm and hopping to my feet, my chair falling backwards.

Victoria didn’t even have to say anything. She just looked at me the same way she did yesterday when I swore.

And as soon as she did… I felt a sudden influx of guilt build up in my chest. So I quickly picked the chair up and put it back in its place carefully.

“Good girl.” She said, smiling again.

There it was again… those flies or moths or whatever had returned to my stomach.

‘Dammit.’

I followed closely behind Victoria as she led us to her study. She didn’t say a word along the way, and neither did I. I was too focused on how different this mansion felt when it was illuminated by the daylight coming through the many, many windows. Somehow the really creepy mansion from last night was a lot less creepy during the day, feeling much more like a home than a cultist’s headquarters.

We arrived at her study, and closing the door behind us, she stood behind me, as if waiting for something.

“Stay still there. Don’t move.” She ordered.

“Yes Miss…”

“Miss? You can call me Victoria, sweetie. No need to be so formal. Though it is cute…”

I blushed again.

“Umm… what are we doing here?” I asked.

“I’m going to attempt to cast a spell.”

“A spell?” I asked, surprised by her answer.

“I’m no Witch, but I’ve been around enough of them to know how to cast a basic glamour spell. At least with reagents anyway, I can’t do it naturally like normal Witches. Thankfully, I keep enough stocked for a lot of basic spells. Though these quick-fix spells don’t last as long as the real things. Should be enough to glamour you for a few hours whilst we go shopping.”

“Oh… that’s how… just…”

“Just what, sweetpea?”

The pet names were cute. And I hated it. Mostly.

“Just… don’t make me all cute and preppy.” I replied.

“Don’t worry, you’ll still look like you. It’ll just hide your horns, tail and change your skin tone to a normal human shade.”

“Oh… okay then…”

“So just stay still sweetie. It’s been a while since I last cast a spell.”

“What about the ritual?”

“Technically it wasn’t me casting that. I was just the intended target.”

“What kind of spell was it?” I asked, trying to gather more information about the ritual that was currently binding me to Earth.

“Just a simple summoning spell. But we must have translated it wrong. Don’t worry, this is a spell I’ve successfully cast a few times before. A Witch friend of mine taught me it. It’s never failed. So far.”

“SO FAR?” I blurted out.

“Shush. Now… be a good girl and stay still.”

I wanted to argue, to pout, to whine and groan… but for some reason I wanted to please her. I wanted to make her happy. So I shut my mouth and listened to her walk about her study, gathering the reagents for the spell.

“Right. I think I’m ready.” She said, taking a deep breath.

“Please don’t fuck this up.”

“Language…”

“Sorry.”

“Now… let’s give this a try then, shall we?”

Victoria started reciting some basic incantation, and my heart started beating rapidly, nervous about how bad this could turn out for me.

‘Don’t be a blonde bimbo… don’t be a blonde bimbo…’ I recited to myself as I felt a magical energy encircle me.

Why do i have a feeling that blonde or not will be the least thing she should be worried about. My guess is she will look too young for her taste but given who writes the story it could even worse ;)

Why do i have a feeling that blonde or not will be the least thing she should be worried about. My guess is she will look too young for her taste but given who writes the story it could even worse ;)

I'm thinking red curly pigtails. Not blonde but oooh so childish

Chapter 7: Shopping

-Victoria-

Infernum Infantem – LittleFallenPrincess

I walked confidently down the high street, purse in hand, heels clacking on the pavement, dressed in my favourite pantsuit and blouse. It was the outfit I wore to all my biggest business meetings, as it would ensure the best deal was made… for myself.

It intimidated everyone in the room, and it was perfect for getting this little demon in the right place to strike a deal later. A deal that will benefit me the most.

I slyly looked down at Nia, who was wearing one of Beatrice’s lovely summer dresses. She seemed… uncomfortable. But she wasn’t saying a word…

‘She’s a demon… surely she’d be complaining… unless…’

Every time we passed a shop window or a reflective surface, I found Nia staring at herself.

We must have passed about 20 reflective surfaces before I stopped and looked down at her. She too stopped, confused by the sudden halt.

“What’s up?” I asked.

“Nothing…” She replied, nervously.

“You can’t keep looking at yourself in every shop window…”

“I…”

“Well?”

“It’s weird, okay?! I’m not used to wearing stuff like this… being out in public… looking human. It’s like I can still feel my horns and my tail… but they’re not there! It’s weird!” She cried out, blushing after realising how loud she was talking.

“It’s okay sweetie, just take it slowly for now. I know it must be weird, but we’ll find you a few outfits, then grab some lunch, then we’ll head back to the estate. You’re doing great.”

I watched as she blushed once again, nodding her head and looking down at the ground shyly.

“Thanks…” She mumbled.

I don’t know what came over me, but I felt a sudden urge to do something. Normally I could resist such silly urges, but this one… this one felt so right. And it was only a minor thing… nothing too out of the ordinary… so I figured why the hell not?

I held my hand out, palm up, and looked her in the eye.

For a split second, she seemed confused, but slowly raised her hand until it hovered over mine.

Grasping her hand with mine, interlocking my fingers with hers… I squeezed her hand and let both our hands drop, still grasping each other.

“Umm… Victoria…?” She asked.

“Yes sweetie?”

“Why… Why are we holding hands?”

“Because I can see how anxious you are. And I think this will help. Plus I don’t want you to get lost.”

She blushed more than ever. Even the makings of a smile were forming…

“O… Okay… whatever…”

“Now, let’s go get you clothes. If you’re good… I’ll let you buy the new GameGirl XL.”

I had noticed she only had the original version, released a few years ago. Which also reminded me to ask more about the gaming stuff and hell.

“THERE'S AN XL VERSION?” She cried out.

“Oh sweetie... But only if you’re good…”

Her shy, anxious attitude suddenly washed away, replaced by this energetic, excited little girl who just wanted a new game to play as she jumped up and down, without breaking the link between our hands. It was… it was damn adorable.

----------------------------------------------------------

“I’m boooooooored!” Nia whined, throwing a strop just like the toddler she had been acting like earlier.

This… was less adorable.

Not… not adorable, just… less.

“Be good… otherwise we can skip the game store…” I warned her.

“Fine!” She said, pouting once again.

This was the fourth clothes store we had visited, and she was clearly bored out of her mind. She was bad enough in the first store we visited, but now… she was ready to throw a full on tantrum in the middle of the store if I didn’t pick something soon.

And it was my job to pick the clothes for her, because no matter what I held up, she whined and groaned about how it’s ugly or stupid or whatever the word she used in her demonic tongue was.

“Look, I think I’ve picked out the right things for you from this store, and along with the clothes I picked out for you from the other three… I think we can go grab some lunch now. THEN if you’ve been good and you stop causing a scene… we’ll go to the game store before heading home, okay? Remember, I’m doing this all for you. You need some new clothes.”

“Fine. Let’s check out and get going then…” She rolled her eyes at me once again as I picked up the bundle of dresses, jeans, tops and jackets and carried them over to the checkout.

“Lunch then?” I asked her, knowing the answer full well.

“Sure. But I get to pick!” She said, surprising me.

“Okay… sure. Where do you want to eat, sweetie?”

“Umm… crap. I… don’t actually know any of the places in this decade.”

“How about you let me pick the cafe, and you can pick anything from the menu there? I guarantee you’ll like something.”

“Fine. Let’s go…” She sighed, walking along beside me as we walked across the shopping centre plaza to a little cafe I loved to visit on occasion. I was left lugging all the bags filled with our recent purchases, so I couldn’t hold her hand… though I really wanted to for some reason.

Nia seemed more bratty than yesterday, which is still weird coming from a demonic entity that was summoned directly from Hell. I’d expect this behaviour from a three year old… not a demon.

“Where we going?” She asked, skipping along, probably excited at the thought of getting her gaming console later.

“A little cafe. They do all sorts. You can pick out anything.” I replied.

“Do they do those sandwiches your maid made me last night?”

“Housekeeper. Not maid. And yes, I think they do.”

“I may get one of those. They were really good.”

“She does have a knack for cooking. But why don’t you try something else? What else do you eat in hell?”

“I… I don’t really. Just those energy drinks and crisps from Earth. Like I said, they don’t really sustain me, I feed another way. But they taste good, so I get someone to ship them to me in Hell.”

“You can get things delivered in Hell?”

“Yeah! How’d you think I got my gaming console?” She smiled up at me.

“I… was going to ask.”

“Ask what?” She looked up at me, confused.

“...Let’s sit down and get settled and we can have a chat whilst we have a nice lunch, okay?”

“Sure!” She said, sounding much more chipper than earlier.

As we walked into the cafe area, the owner behind the counter noticed me.

“Ah, Victoria. Nice to see you. Been a while!” He said, smiling and waving. “Your usual seat?”

“Please George. Oh and how’s Kath?” I asked.

“She’s good. Spending time with the grandkids today, my turn to run the place.”

“Well give her my love.”

“Will do. And I’ll be over to take your order in a moment.”

“Thanks.” I replied, leading Nia over to a little table in this quaint little rustic cafe. I always loved this place, as it reminded me a lot of places I used to frequent in my youth. Natural wooden tables, comfortable seating, homely decorations, and most importantly… good food.

“This is… not what I was expecting.” Nia said, sitting down, accidentally sitting on her invisible tail as she squeaked quietly and adjusted herself. “Ooops… I forgot it was still there… stupid glamour making it invisible…”

“I love this place. And I think you’ll enjoy the food. So have a look at the menu, pick anything you’d like.”

And so she did just that. She picked out the biggest burger they did, as well as chips and some onion rings. Terribly greasy… but sounded delicious. I on the other hand… watched what I ate, I didn’t have the metabolism of a demon, so I picked a nice ham salad sandwich and a strawberry milkshake. And upon seeing it when it arrived, Nia quickly asked for one too, alongside her burger.

We happily ate in silence, which became more and more awkward as it went on.

Until I figured I’d break it, as she clearly wasn’t going to.

“So… Nia… I have to ask…”

“What?” She said, wiping her mouth after finishing her food. I wanted to take a napkin and wipe it for her, but she used her hand before I could even reach for one.

“What did you do in Hell before video games were invented? And how did you find out? And how did you make that way your preferred way of torture?” I blurted out all my questions in one go, after holding them in all day.

“Umm… I was just yet another faceless demon shoving objects into orifices that they weren’t supposed to be shoved in. Pineapples, pinecones, pine… tree once. Not all pine though! I once shoved a car exhaust up someone’s…”

“So you had another role before video games became your specialisation?” I asked, cutting her off. I really didn’t want to hear the inevitable ‘gas coming out of the exhaust’ part of the story I could tell was coming…

“Yeah. Then one day a dude who was obsessed with video games turned up in Hell. This was like 50 years ago. He wouldn’t shut the hell up about it, and so I asked one of the black market dealers in Hell to acquire one of these ‘video games’ for me. Turns out… they’re hella fun. And as more and more nerd’s souls rocked up in Hell, the more I realised there needed to be a specific department for people like them. Their arrogance, their ego… I realised that could be used against them when I challenged one particular soul to a game and he got salty when he lost.”

“So you turned video games into a form of torture? That’s… pretty clever.”

“Thanks! My superiors didn’t think so though. Laughed at me. Wasn’t until the head honcho noticed and ordered them to give me my own department that my dreams were realised. Problem was… I’m the only one. But hey, that means I’m sort of my own boss. Unless you count the one overseeing my department from the outside, who is a massive jerk. And the big cheese herself.”

“Big Cheese? And who is that?” I asked, desperate for more information on a realm I had wondered about but only read in the limited scripture available. Sure, it’s mentioned in some pretty popular books… one very old one in particular… but that was biased, so I couldn’t really trust that one. But here, with an actual demon on semi-friendly terms with me… I could finally find out more.

“You know… the devil.” Nia replied.

“Wait… THE Devil? The actual Devil himself? He actually exists?”

She does. Of course she does.”

“She? The Devil is a woman?”

“Duh. What else was she going to be? Why do you think she was cast down in the first place?”

“Oh… that makes a lot of sense…”

“Yeah. Anyway, she saw my potential, so granted me my own department. Then they all kinda forgot about me and left me to my own devices, figuring I’d fuck up less if left alone. Or maybe they just forgot about me.”

“Oh sweetie…” I said, without even meaning to. But it must have done something to her inside her little head, because her blushy cheeks came out again.

“It’s okay. I’m okay. Anyway… any other questions?” She asked.

“We can talk about it more if you want?” I offered.

“Nah, just forget about it. I assume you want to know what I can offer you? Like deals and that stuff?” She asked, trying to move on from the topic.

“Okay, sure, let’s talk about what you can give me and my associates.”

“I guess money? Fame? Sorry, I’ve never really done this before. We have specific guys for this kind of work, guys who are good at making deals in the sales and marketing departments. I… personally don’t care for this kind of stuff.”

“So what if I asked you for the intended result of the ritual we cast last night?”

“The one summoning the ‘dork of darkness’ or whatever it was?”

“Child of darkness, yes.” I said, correcting her.

“I… I’d probably have to talk to my supervisor about that.”

“So you can’t do it?”

“That seems… very ‘end of the world’-y. Which lower level demons like me aren’t privy to.”

“I thought you ran your own department?”

“I do… still a low level demon though. I could have a chat with my supervisor though if you want?”

“I’ll consider it. Question is… what do you get in return? It’s a deal after all.”

“I dunno… usually they get the souls of the person making the deal. Me? I don’t care. I wouldn’t even get your soul if you died, it’d be sent into the system and I’d never see you again. Which… would suck.” She mumbled that last bit, but I heard every word.

“Then how about… you help us find out what went wrong with the ritual? Maybe you can read the spell better than we can.”

“I could do that.” She smiled up at me from across the table.

“And what would you want in return?”

“You bought me clothes. Get me… five games with the GameGirl XL and we’ll say you’ve covered the cost of my help.”

“Deal.” I said, smiling back at her.

==========================================================

I put a lot more of myself into Nia than I have with any other character ?

You could always get me to behave or put up with something I don't like with a new game or a new toy or something as a kid. Not much has changed...

And... you know... the whole snarky good girl thing... ?

Best value demonic bargain ever! I love the idea that the Child from Hell could be so naïve and adorable.
