I did an IQ test :o

Hey everyone!

A couple days ago i tested my IQ to see where i was at compared to other people. Like, did you know Natalie Portman has an IQ of 140? ?

I did the test and i was expecting it to come out about as average, like maybe 105 or something, but turned out it's just 79 ?

I mean i never really thought i was super smart or anything but turns out that like 93% of people have a higher IQ than me. Now i'm kinda wondering like how do really smart people think compared to me. I did not too bad in school either, and even tried to go to a university but that didn't end up working out. I did have to work really hard to get through highschool but i mean i got by. Do you guys know your IQs and does it feel different to have a higher IQ? Please let me know : o

I had to do an iq test like 2 or 3 years ago and got like 104. I was surprised about that because my siblings are some what higher then that and not all of them seem to bright tbh.
But iq isnt everything and you might as well had a bad day that you got that result and not every iq test is the same. I dont really know how it went for you in school but if you could just keep up for the most part and didnt have terrible grades i do think then that 79 seems a bit to low.
For me i dont really think about it to much and have seen that even if my iq isnt very high im pretty smart in my own way so to speak , I was praised in school by some teachers to be the best in class for some difficult subjects just as an example.

An IQ test reflects how you where on that day ,many times people take that multiple times before they score highly , you also can't realy do a standardized test and measure street smarts( acquired ability of logic and reasoning ) or a person's "EQ" emotional quotient , you could be "smarter" then the test can measure in other areas that a single "snapshot" can measure. "A picture maybe worth a 1000 words" of one particular moment in time & space when you took the test ,so what is a 4K 30 minute video worth ?

Don't put too much stock on these results. Don't know anything about the environment in which the test was conducted, but sounds dubious at best. If anything, this is just a "fun thin" and a conversation starter concerning IQ's.

Fun fact: IQ tests were not designed to measure intelligence. In fact, just the opposite: they were made to help identify students who might need extra help.

And in any case, the definition of "Intelligence" is far too broad to be encompassed in a test. What most people define as "Intelligence" usually boils down to "Booksmarts" and bares no indication of one's intellectual capabilities.

I say all that to say that even though you scored low on the IQ test, it probably just means that you have above-average iability in other areas. ?

I come in about 136, though I think a lot of that has to do with your ability to reason through the way IQ tests are written.

But I also came in high enough on both my PSAT (I was a National Merit semifinalist) and SAT to also qualify for MENSA on that basis.

Online IQ tests are typically neither accurate nor scientific. I wouldn't put too much stock in them, personally. Intelligence takes many forms, and everyone has a specialty. You wouldn't want your surgeon balancing your wheels, and you wouldn't want your mechanic to perform open heart surgery. I don't know how to do auto mechanics, but I can assess a patient and figure out what's wrong with them (or what isn't) typically by just talking with them briefly. But Hades help me if I had to fix a transmission. I wouldn't even know where to begin.

Bottom line, don't sweat what an IQ test tells you, because A) It's probably fake clickbait and B) it's probably not going to take into account what you are an expert in.

I was tested by a school specialist and found I have an IQ of 160. I am good at doing just about everything across the board, not just at a specific task. What does it feel like to have an high IQ? My mind is constantly thinking when I am not doing anything or is doing something not related to my thinking.  I kinda wish I didn't so that I can fall asleep easily.

Yeah, I'll backup the comments about not relying on those results entirely.   I just took a test and it says I scored 145!  Considering I was a C to B student from high school through college (and scored 1090 on the earlier form of the SAT), I'd say that's quite a bit optimistic.   Mensa candidate I'm most certainly not!

I remember dozing through a lecture about this at university a VERY long time ago...  The lecturer was saying that there are as many IQ scores an individual can have as there are different IQ tests that individual takes.  What we call "IQ" has many facets and there's a fair debate about what IQ even is.  Many tests are biased toward particular capabilities.  Some of the cruder ones I've seen on the internet have significant cultural bias or even conflate "trivial pursuit" general knowledge with intelligence.

Maybe you just took a test that was biased away from your strengths.  If you are interested, try taking a series of different tests and see if the results show any patterns or consistency.

Assuming your location (Netherlands) reflects your heritage, you're using a language that's NOT your primary language and yet your post was coherent and you deployed commas with more skill than many who post here!  You have some kind of IQ hiding there.

I *do* know that academic ability and IQ are not correlated in both directions.  Sure a high IQ is going to help a lot but am also acquainted with people that I believe to have very high IQ and yet they struggled at school.

I can recall reading one academic opinion that suggested that original vocabulary along with original use of metaphors in language could be considered a "marker" for possible high IQ if you are reading posts ?

Don't let it bother you. There is a quote (I can't remember who said it - it was in one psychology text book in 2000) - "if an aborigine drafted an IQ test, presumably the whole of wesern civilisation would flunk it"... just like lie detectors don't test lies... they test emotion... etc

I haven't had one in years. My IQ was fairly high in 3rd or 4th grade (120+) and had to take AG classes through middle school. I know it's still pretty high, but it's harder to measure accurately as we get older. I wouldn't put much faith into one test anyway. A test doesn't really define one's true intellectual abilities. And determination is far greater than intelligence as far as life goes.

Your IQ is your Mental Age divided by your Physical Age and multiplied by 100. So, if you score as well as the average 50 year old and you're 25, then your IQ would be 200. Due to this, the scale becomes harder and harder to measure as you age, since there are fewer elders to provide averages.

If you took the IQ test online, the results are worthless. An IQ test should not require any degree of actual knowledge. They're designed to determine your ability to problem solve and reason quickly. Online IQ tests require that you possess certain knowledge and are heavily weighted against those that don't speak native English.

Even legitimate IQ tests administered by a psychologist are suspect, because your ability to score high on the test has not been shown to be a good measure of your ability to succeed. Some of the most brilliant people in the world would score very low on a standardized IQ test and many of the highest scorers are still flipping burgers at 40 years old.

When I was 18, I was taken for two IQ tests from two different psychologists. The first I scored 167 and the second was 165. The IQ scale would say I'm a supra-genius, but I'm not particularly good at any one thing. I'm pretty much the epitome of "Jack of all trades, master of none".

I has given an iq test, i wasn't told what my score was, i figured it must have been so low they might have been afraid to tell me, but since i don't consider myself to be the least bitsmart, in guessing id be lucky if it would even be 65

As someone who has a slightly above average Iq For my region 132 you should feel very lucky to not have an above average Iq because instead of laughing when somebody tells a joke or does something stupid it either makes you feel awkward or irritated and if your ever talking about a complex technical or political problem with someone of average or below average Iq you find yourself constantly having to break it down and explain it piece by piece which gets old very quickly I look around all the time and see people of average to below average Iq doing the same thing I'm doing only their enjoying it I truly wish I had a lower Iq it would make my life so much more enjoyable I work with a guy who's a little slow think gomer plye from the Andy Griffith show and he can sit through the most boring speech our boss can make and still be entertained he can have the most irratating customer on earth and still help them with a smile no matter how stupid and annoying you try to be he still just laughs it off I have never seen him upset nothing bothers him and to top it all off if your the smartest person in the group which think god I rarely am there's people helluva lot smarter than me whom I very much respect and appreciate you will be expected to sort out all the problems which no one else could and take responsibility for any and all screw ups as the saying goes

ignorance is bliss
