so i have recently seemed to loose all urinary control

Recommended Posts

About a year and a half ago I wet my bed. And today I wet uncontrolled. Urologist has given up on me saying it isn't life threatening. Go seems to think I am good and healthy. What do you all think. I have no other symptoms. No back pain nothing. Am I alone?

Were you in some sort of accident a year and a half ago? Was there anything that marked that event? Car crash? Fell off a bike? There seems to be a fair amount of people who are (urge) IC after having been in an accident.

So, I was actually thinking about it. I was mugged at about that time, and they kicked my head a bunch of times, it caused a concussion. But it didn't really triggered any incontinence right away. I started bed wetting about three or four months later.

Hmm. As far as I know (and I don't know a lot), back injuries is something that can cause types of IC, but sometimes without any diagnosable reason why and/or noticable pattern. Peeps just notice leaks / start being IC after a back injury. So that's kind of what I was looking for. I don't really think it could be from getting mugged.

Well, the most harsh effects of head injuries and concussions can happen years after the fact, as we're just figuring out with football players. It's possible it damaged the part of your brain that aids in sending signals down there to either hold or go.

The only certain thing here is that something has changed from before- now it's your Doctor's job to find what it is and hopefully treat it. Given the head injury, it sure seems that it is where the problem will most likely be at, though it could be nerve damage in the spine from when you hit the ground. Rare is the person with an undiagnosable cause of incontinence, though it happens sometimes. If it is a head injury, your bladder may not be the only thing affected, just the thing you've noticed, and there could be more serious problems coming unless something is done. Push your Doctor to find the problem, "I can't find" can mean that someone who 'can find' is now needed, so you may be seeing a lot of specialists but that's better than having the rest of your life adversely affected. I too was in a car wreck. I had developed urge incontinence right after it, but have also had a neurogenic blockage that took over ten years to full develop as well.

Also, I HAVE it when someone says I'm too young to have a medical problem. Guess what, it happens to people of all ages.

It is about a year and a half since my bedwetting started again quite suddenly although I had been experiencing some daytime dribbling for about 6 months before hand. I have seen a urologist, doctors and a continence nurse and the diagnosis is a combinded effect of diabetic nerve damage, a slightly enlarged prostate and an unstable bladder which together give me mixed overflow and urge incontinence. I was prescribed Vesicare but to be honest it does little to combat my incontinence which has got steadily worse. I have just learned to live with it and have become somwwhat of a DL which helps me accept it so much better. Incontinence and bedwetting isn't life threatening and my current doctor is very matter of fact about it and just refered me to the continence nurse once the urologist had ruled out any serious causes.

Thanks for the advice guys. I will reach out to more specialists I guess. Bettys foreboding words scared me straight.

Didn't mean to scare you, it's just that I hate losing nice people when it doesn't have to happen. I've seen too much of that at my age :crybaby: At least be sure there's nothing seriously wrong or that something needs monitoring so you can have a decent life instead of one that ends too soon. And if they can fix problems for you while they're checking, then all the better. If not at least you've got one less worry knowing the rest is OK
