Elfy
So, I wanted to talk about the chat room and the rules in it since it seems to be a topic coming up for discussion relatively often in the chat itself! Thought it would be good to have an open discussion about them. 1 Link to comment

DailyDi
We can not edit the code for the chat room as it is provided by Invision on their server. Link to comment
Elfy
Out of curiosity, how much would it cost to get a chat that could do things like what was said above? Link to comment
Zander
1. Maybe we should edit the rules page to have a list of the chat moderators on it somewhere, just so if people new to the room get a problem they need to discuss they know who to go to (maybe also say if its chat room related that they can PM us without asking) Easy enough - this is something for DailyDi to decide. Zander
Now I don't know what the chat is capable of from a coding standpoint but I could probably at least try to find people who could modify the chat software to make these happen (if required) I welcome hearing any and all comments on my suggested rules and anything anyone else has to suggest just put it down here. I know for those of us who go in chat regularly that there has been a desire for some new rules, judging from the way people talk about it, so here is a chance for everyone to get their say Not much from a server-side perspective, but on the client end a fair bit is possible - if anyone can be bothered to do the work. I've put this in a 2nd reply as I've "exceeded the number of quote blocks" in my first reply - or some other such bullshit. 1 Link to comment
Elfy
Hey, I really don't know about the technical side of things I'm afraid, if there is a way then that's great but you would need to take over the discussion because when we start talking code and stuff my eyes glaze over! Link to comment

DailyDi
I'm open to exploring all these ideas, or if Zander can code one for us even better, as the hosted and package scripts are quite costly Link to comment
rusty pins
I'm usually in the chat room early morning and once in a while late afternoon or evening. Link to comment

aron in a nappy
One option but used to be more for voice chat was teamspeak, I think that has changed. It was a brilliant platform which was easy to adapt to also etc of scenarios Link to comment
Elfy
I always found voice chat awkward, I'm just not very good at it lol... Too shy! Link to comment
Bettypooh
I hardly ever do Chat, but being a Mod I get to deal with all the crap that happens there anyway and there's always too much of it so I don't give a dam# what rules are made for Chat so long as they reduce the problems there. That's my bias and I'm sticking to it I do want to hear what those who regularly use Chat want as we want it to be as good for you as we can make it 2 Link to comment
big_baby_nappy
Is it possible to switch the chat server backend to be a IRC server instead of custom coding? 1 Link to comment
DailyDi
I have looked at IRC, and we used it once, but we ended up with everyone deciding to create their own room so they could control it, so we had 20 rooms with 1-2 people in each and no real community room Link to comment
Dill_Pickle
DailyDi, you make me wonder if there is a way to control the making of separate IRC rooms...there are certainly occasions where it would be nice to have a third person in a PM, which would be the same thing as a separate, temporary IRC room. Elfy
I can see the problem with multiple rooms, especially a lot of multiple rooms in the way DD was saying, because that's how cliques form, and then you have no real chat room... Same thing with having PMs that multiple members can join, most of us have seen what cliques do to chat rooms and it isn't good. Link to comment
