Health Care Reform - What'S The Big Deal?

Recommended Posts

I'm from Canada where we have a national health care system. Here the poles show that an overwhelming majority are unwilling to scrap or even reform our universal health care. But what I don't understand is why there have been such a violent reaction to this bill. I mean abortion never saw an outburst, you would probably have to go back to the civil rights days to find a reaction like this.

Especially since it limits how much insurance companies can charge and who they can cover I'd think the benifits for all would at least cause less of an uproar. As for the cost, Bush threw more money away on some pretty stupid programs and got a muted response. So why does this reform cause such a violent reaction?

Because the majority of Americans didn't want the reform. It also doesn't cut down our deficit at all. We are also going to see a 40% increase on medical insurance and people who work for it are going to have to pick up the tab for the freeloaders so why shouldn't we be mad.

Capt said exactly what I was thinking. Who wants to work their ass off just so lazy people who live off welfare are covered? And personally I think it is one step closer to a socialist economy and last time I checked, we were supposed to be a democracy.

Jabez: You don't honestly think everyone on welfare is lazy, do you?

One aspect about the new American health care bill is that by 2014 every American must have health care. If you don't then you have to pay a fine. That is complete BS right there.

Unfortunately, politicians screwing their constituents is nothing new.....

I love how people from other countries that have universal health care think that if the system works for their country, then it will work for the US.

The majority of Americans are against this bill. Period.

I shouldn't have to work hard just so welfare heifers can have health insurance. Nowhere in the constitution does it say that health insurance is a right.

Are you sure the majority of Americans did not want reform ???

What constitutes a majority ???

A 100,000 hecklers does not make a majority !

The population of the country is well over 300 million

Was this actually brought to a vote so that a majority was ascertained; i.e. 50% plus 1 ???

A small minority of very very loud participants can create the effect of having a majority !

For sure the system is not perfect - BUT now we really have something to work the bugs out of

and to get it working right. Before it was I did not find your program acceptable because it

was not my own original idea or I am being "well-paid" by the lobbyists to make sure change

does not happen !

The best thing that could have happen is the Health Care Bill should have been an election

issue where the PEOPLE voted it up or down with any and all proposed ammendments. This will

be even more a critical issue in that the Census is being taken and some states will gain or

lose seats in Congress. The majority will now shift or tilt in yet another direction.

If you do not like the bill work to get it changed for the better and not voided taking a step

backward ! Just make sure you actually are in the majority for the change !

Become part of the solution instead of the problem !

It is the PEOPLE who run this country not the lobbyists; insurance companies & bankers/wall street !

in my words F the reform bill if we were to eat right and process and or change the way we process food and educate the people on eating habits we wouldnt have this issue go and take a look back 50 years b4 welfare and social security we didnt have 1 tenth of the problems that we have 2 day not gonna say more as i could put a lot of docs out of business on some of the studies i have researched and i could get in a lot of trouble for it

because american's are selfish ignorant assholes.. God forbid we paid an extra few dollars per paycheck to allow people to get proper health care.

its not a fear of socialism, its plain and simply greed and selfishness.

the part about if you dont have health care by 2014 or pay a fine is correct EXCEPT... if you do not make enough money to pay taxes, than you WILL NOT BE FINED for not having health care.. there are other exceptions as well, so if you cannot afford to get healthcare you will not be fined for having it!!!!

Only more government infringement on our rights, I am not dogging on your nation but one thing that made America what it "was" is an article that's apart of our Constitution called the Bill of Rights. But Bill of Rights? who in this nation gives a shit about that?

Just look up the opposing arguements to this Health Care Reform bill. I am not against a health care reform, just one that's going to give the government even more control of our lives among all the other bull-shit that's going to result after this reform is put into effect is all. I am just burnt on debating this. So if you really want to know just look it up.

Nobody is ENTITLED to have anything at the expense of others. The majority of people who say they can't afford the health care their employer provides are simply unwilling to modify their way of life to afford it. I'm not enough of a belligerent retard to have 8 kids while working as a minimum wage so why should I suffer because someone else was an idiot? The only thing that needed to change was the pre-existing condition laws. They were changed, however the idiots in Washington managed to screw that up too. The problem is people are still crying about a government run plan, which this isn't. Give our wonderful Commander in cheerleader enough time and it'll probably go that route, but for now, there has been some progress and some huge debacles in the bill.

There are many polls that suggest that the majority of Americans do not support the current Health Insurance Reform bill as it currently exists. To the tune of 50-60%, depending on the polling service. However, I'd wager that many people have responded that way because they don't feel that the bill goes far enough- In that it doesn't include a public option and too many concessions to private insurance companies. The initial language of both the house and senate bills was drafted by the former CEO of Wellpoint. The people who say they are happy with their current insurance coverage are those who have never had to use it for major injuries or illnesses. Despite budget woes, the quality of care provided by Medicare is still comparable to private insurance. And the Veterans Administration/TriCare is regarded by patients and physicians as the best available care in the country- and it exists as an actual, literal form of socialized medicine.

Both of these need to be quoted again.

The bill is unconstitutional as per Row vs Wade. Go look it up, I'll wait.

I guess I don't love my country enough to violate it's founding principles (the constitution) and burden it further with unnecessary cost associated with this bill.

The only comment I have in regards to the patriot act is how hypocritical the far left wing media is in this country. Every single one of them that rightfully attacked Bush on the Bill's passing, praised Obama for renewing it. It was wrong then and is wrong now.

I did not mean to imply that I thought that everyone on welfare was lazy because I know that there are some people who genuinely need that help and are doing all they can to stay alive. But I know that here where I live, probably 95% of the people on welfare are just lazy. They don't have a job, nor do they try to get one. *Those* are the people I don't like paying for.

I don't get it, is that like "If you don't vote, you don't get to complain"?

That post was meant for me. Bel knows that I collect Star Wars action figures and keep them in the box. I have well over 1,000+ figures, play sets from the Hasbro Star Wars toy line.

What others from other countries don't get is that your "Health-care System" is NOT the same as our "Health-care Reform". If you don't live in the US, and pay taxes, you don't need to worry about it.

I'm all for the medically/mentally disabled and the elderly having health care. I am not for supporting life-long welfare leaches that want nothing more than a free ride.

Welfare should not be a federal program. It is not in the US constitution. Congress, the president and the courts have all become the self-perpetuating monsters that the likes of Thomas Jefferson warned us against. It should be a state program if it exists at all. Using the IRS to force people to pay for insurance is BS and a weasely way at that. A tax by any other name is still an unconstitutional tax.

I'm sick and tired of paying 1/3 of my paycheck to keep up the baby mommas and the good-for-nothing types that smoke, shoot, snort whatever they can get, continuing the generations of welfare recipients that expect everything to come from the government. The government makes nothing and cannot give anything that it didn't first confiscate under threat of incarceration from those that produce, slice off their percentage and return lesser to those it enslaves with entitlements. When you tax something, you get less of it. Taxpayers will diminish. When you subsidize something you get more of it. Welfare dependent people will rise.

I have no problem with those that cannot do for themselves getting assistance, be it church, salvation army, goodwill and the government as a last resort. I contribute to the first three willingly and to the last one begrudgingly. There is too much power and too much money wasted by the hundreds of billions in Washington, DC for the system to ever work again without cleaning out the whole lot of them.

If you think the worst has hit, just wait until they "discover" that they miscalculated the numbers and they start talking about a VAT tax. Our European members can enlighten you on that but then again, most of them don't ALSO have an income tax. We are all about to be yoked to the wheel of whoa for eternity if it isn't stopped in its tracks and a full reverse implemented post haste.

Like in that other thread about health care reform, I am going to bite my tongue. I'm just going to shake my head and walk away just like every other member who doesn't want to mingle politics with the AB/DL interest.
