Your Favorite Song Of The Last 10 Years

Recommended Posts

Rules are as follows:

1. Pick just one song from the last 10 years to be your favorite.

2. Give a breif explaination as to why you made this choice.

3. ????

4. Profit

I'll start:

Muse - Time is Running Out

The reason I chose this song is because it is single handedly responsible for me expanding my musical taste. Before this song, all I would listen to was Classic Rock and Metal. Also some of my happiest moments were spent with this song playing in the background.

Hardest question ever.

I could come up with a top 10, maybe even a top 3 at a push...I'll take a stab,

Enter One by Sol Seppy.

Reason? One of the few songs I've heard in the past years that has actually moved me to tears. Stunningly beautiful song.

Lynard Skynrd's "That Aint My America". My favorite part is "You can take your change on down the road and leave me here with mine".

The song pretty much reflects my political feelings and it was recorded in 2009. Most of the music I like is pre-1980.

"That Ain't My America"

LYNYRD SKYNYRD

From the Album - "God & Guns" (2009)

(Johnny Van Zant, Gary Rossington, Rickey Medlocke, Brett Warren)

Sometimes I wanna light up underneath the no-smoking sign

Sometimes I wish they'd tell me, how justice got so blind

I wish they'd just leave me alone 'cause I'm doing alright

You can take your change on down the road and leave me here with mine

'Cause that ain't my America

That aint this country's roots

You wanna slam old Uncle Sam

But I ain't letting you

I'm mad as hell and you know I still bleed Red, White, and Blue

That ain't us

That Ain't My America

I was standing there in Dallas

Waitin on a plane

I overheard an old man

Tell a young soldier "thanks"

The young soldier hung his head and said "it's hard to believe

You're the only one who took the time to say a word to me"

And the old man said...

That ain't my America

That aint this country's roots

You wanna slam old Uncle Sam

But I ain't letting you

I'm mad as hell and you know I still bleed Red, White, and Blue

That ain't us

That Ain't My America

It's to the women and men who in their hands hold a Bible and a gun

And they ain't afraid of nothing, when when they're holding either one

Now there's kids who can't pray in school

$100 dollar tanks of gas

I can tell you right now this country ain't

AIN'T SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THAT!

NO!

'Cause that ain't my America

That aint this country's roots

You wanna slam old Uncle Sam

But I ain't letting you

I'm mad as hell and you know I still bleed Red, White, and Blue

That ain't us

That Ain't My

That Ain't My America

That Ain't My America

That Ain't My America

"Holiday" by Green Day. It was the first song of theirs I ever heard, my favorite song of theirs to this day, and it set me into a whole new world of music, leading me to other modern bands like Muse, the White Stripes, and Franz Ferdinand. Hearing it played live at the Forum this past August was a big moment for me. Not to mention its kick-ass sound and awesome lyrics. B) All in all, a watershed song for me at this time of my life.

Hmm, I would say "brick by boring brick" by paramore. It reminds me of a girl that lives in a fantasy world somewhat like me. I dont want to end my fantasy world though. The video is clever and the lyrics arent bad. I also like slipknots new song snuff alot.

"A Sun That Never Sets" by Neurosis

This is the deepest most spiritually empowering song I ever heard in my life and it was written within the last 10 years.

The video:

The lyrics:

A sun that never sets burns on

New light is this river's dawn

When to speak of a word so old

is to relearn what is known

A time to think back and move on

Rebuild the loves of lives long gone

The blood that flows through me is not my own

The blood is from the past, not my own

The blood that leads my life is not my own

The blood is my strength, I'm not alone

Well, as far as I am concerned, my most treasured and favorite song that has had any impact on me has been " Run Away Train" by Soul Asylum

The first few times I heard it, everything stopped.....I hung on every word, and realized that that song, every word, was about my life, and the very things I felt. I identify with it 1000% I cannot describe how it makes me feel....I have listened to it countless times and every time I cry because of it's truth pertaining to my life:

RUN AWAY TRAIN SOUL ASYLUM

Call you up in the middle of the night

Like a firefly without a light

You were there like a slow torch burning

I was a key that could use a little turning

So tired that I couldn't even sleep

So many secrets I couldn't keep

Promised myself I wouldn't weep

One more promise I couldn't keep

It seems no one can help me now

I'm in too deep

There's no way out

This time I have really led myself astray

CHORUS

Runaway train never going back

Wrong way on a one way track

Seems like I should be getting somewhere

Somehow I'm neither here no there

Can you help me remember how to smile

Make it somehow all seem worthwhile

How on earth did I get so jaded

Life's mystery seems so faded

I can go where no one else can go

I know what no one else knows

Here I am just drownin' in the rain

With a ticket for a runaway train

Everything is cut and dry

Day and night, earth and sky

Somehow I just don't believe it

CHORUS

Bought a ticket for a runaway train

Like a madman laughin' at the rain

Little out of touch, little insane

Just easier than dealing with the pain

Runaway train never comin' back

Runaway train tearin' up the track

Runaway train burnin' in my veins

Runaway but it always seems the same

Green Day had a watershed effect on me too  For the first time since the Punk era, here's a super-tight hard-driven band that says what it means about subjects other bands won't touch- without giving a crap what anyone else thinks about that or them ;) I remember the first time I heard them- it was on a college radio station and I was pissed off that my stereo wouldn't go any louder (even though it could be plainly heard 1/8 mile away) I made along-distance phone call to them afterward just to find out who was playing such awesome music! :) The subjects Green Day covers are far and wide, their sound never gets old, and they don't know how to make a bad song  They don't follow a music style, they make one all their own that others try to follow but can't :D All in all one of the greatest bands ever :biker_h4h:

Everclear - when it all goes wrong again

When It All Goes Wrong Again lyrics-----------

Yes, I think it's safe to say

I feel good about the place

That I've been made in the world today

I get all sticky inside

When I close my eyes

And I open up wide

I see pictures in the clouds

So obscene I gotta laugh out loud

I look back to find my way

Reminisce and laugh about the good old days

Yeah, when I saw my brother above me

I remember the words he said

When you dream you hit bottom

Chances are good you're gonna wake up dead

I'll be up on top when the sky falls down

And it all goes wrong again

Yeah, I will be sitting on top

When It All Goes Wrong Again

Yeah, I will be sitting on top

When It all goes wrong.

Yes I think it's safe to say

I feel good about the sins

That I inflict on my own skin

I pay money to cut and burn

Pictures like the lessons that I need to learn

I see faces on the ceiling

I see them move, I hear them singing

I lay back in here by myself

I think about the time that I've spent in hell

When I saw my brother below me

I remember the words he said

When you leave you wake up happy

Then you'll sleep right in your own warm bed

I'll be singing in the rain when the bad dreams com

And It All Goes Wrong Again

Woh, I will be singing in the rain

When It All Goes Wrong Again

Woh, Woh I will be singing in the rain

When It All Goes Wrong

Where are you gonna be

When it all comes down

What are you gonna do

When it all comes down

Where are you gonna be

When It all comes down

What are you gonna do

When it all comes down on you

I'll be sitting on top of the world

When It All Goes Wrong Again

I'll be sitting on top of the world

When It All Goes Wrong Again

I'll be sitting on top when the sky falls down

And It All Goes Wrong Again

Woh I will be sitting on top when it all goes wrong again

Woh, Woh I will be sitting on top when it all goes wrong again

Again and again

I will be sitting on top when it all goes wrong

Yeah, when it all goes wrong again

Aw, when it all goes wrong again

Oh, When it all goes wrong again

When it all goes wrong again

When it all goes wrong again

When it all goes wrong again

When it all goes wrong again

When it all goes wrong again

When it all goes wrong

I was thinking a bit about music when I stumbled upon this topic, and after some deliberation I gave the honor to "Violet" by Bones Domingo. Why?

Graceful Fury.
