cannot wear beyond 5 hours

Recommended Posts

I am a pull up type person.  I cannot seem to wear beyond 5 hours.  I would say 90% of the problem is the chaffing of the leg gathers.  I have tried just about every brand you can imagine and then some.

I recently tried wearing various diapers too and still have the same problem with the leg gathers.  I don't care for the bulk either, hence being a pull type,  as that will only add to the chaffing.

I generally try the larger size, but still cannot seem to get beyond 5 hours and then need a good long break for the skin.

I know the next option is cloth, but I've tried and kind of don't care for it for too many reasons.  I wore them when I was younger though.  I've bought various and the fit and size were just way off. I think the washing would be an issue.

If you need them for incontinence maybe find incontinence pads or speak to a doctor or incontinence specialist about alternatives

But if you just wear diapers for fun and you've worn them as long as you can manage, take them off and take your needed break from it, nothing wrong with that.

I'd suggest trying BodyGlide.  It's job is to protect skin from chafing, and it doesn't mark clothing etc.  In my running days it was invaluable, and once I started wearing nappies for extended periods it helped me a lot, until my skin had hardened up.  After a few months of wearing pretty much full-time, I didn't need to user it on a regular basis.  I still use it before long walks though.

I tried BodyGlide.  It didn't glide going on.  It more like stuck.  I wonder if I had their anti-perspirant.  I'll have to look in my drawers and /or orders.   I have a lot of hair down there, which probably makes the chaffing worse.  I do use an electric hair razor on my parts, but it doesn't get very close.  Maybe some form of  GoldBond would help.

Not an answer for the original problem, but if your skin gets chafed bad, get some Sween Cream.  https://www.drugsupplystore.com/products/coloplast-sween-cream-12oz-jar.html  I have used it for years when I have raw skin between my legs either from a diaper rubbing, urine from a diaper or even a rough lining on a swim suit rubbing my thighs raw.  First get a warm to hot washcloth and lay it on the raw skin.  Don't rub but pat it dry.  Then use the Sween Cream.  Literally within minutes it will start to feel better and heal.  I'm sorry I have no advice for your Pull Up or diaper chafing itself.

Here's a weird suggestion and works extremely well: Salicylic Acid 2% by Clearasil. The doctor says it's essentially strong soap. It has become my main tool for fighting diaper rash and maintaining healthy skin. It really works well and has replaced all my other lotions and cremes. It's like the best stuff ever and not super expensive.

Adding --- shaving the body (leg) hair could be a problem too.

The cut stubble would be like sandpaper.

Maybe consider bike (thigh length) pants smooth polished fabric ?

Is it so much a problem of the thighs rubbing each other or the plastic ?

Leg bands rubbing up against each other with the skin getting pinched ?

Problem does not exist if no diaper is worn - hardly a protective solution ?

I'll have to give this a shot. Right now, I find that I do battle with diaper rash about every second month - I'll use an antifungal and it clears up, then I go a few weeks with no issues, then it reappears, and when it does, it takes a sustained couple of weeks at least for it to be gone for a while again.

As to @2sail2's issue with chaffing, I was going to ask if he uses a good diaper cream. I use diaper cream religiously, and I've done 10 km hikes and jogged 8 kms in various diapers without having too much chaffing. I find pull-ups actually worse for this, because the fit can't be adjusted. I'd also suggest trying different brands - there are diapers in my inventory that give me no issues, but I've tried some in the past that always seemed to lead to chaffing. You may be sensitive to the rubber that they use in the leg gathers, for example, or, the diaper/pull-up might saw back and forth excessively if it's not a good fit.

I have spent the day walking all over a city, wearing diapers the whole time, with minimal discomfort, and other than when I shower, I've been in a diaper continuously for 4.5 years, so, unless you have very sensitive skin, it should be possible to get more than 5 hours of comfort in a product. Although I will say that my skin has probably become tougher, with the continual wearing. But it doesn't really feel much different than it ever did - if anything, it's more moisturized than ever, because I am ALWAYS putting cream on it, which was not something I did before I wore diapers full-time.

I have used a prescription cream for several years, a Dermatologist I see once a year. And then I will put the A&D ointment on top. I have not had any red skin at all since I started this. And I was using only the Dr stuff before that. It is a 2.5% hydrocortisone OINT, the cream will wash off with the pee, so if you choose this be sure to not let them give you the cream. Even if I don't drink enough liquids I still have no problems. Just my input.

I don't use any creams now.  I was looking at GoldBond.  One of the youtubers had a good review on the various creams.

Cloth-like chaff more than plastic, and pull-ups are loose cloth-like so its probably even worse than cloth-like diapers.

Only time I ever gets problems with plastic chaffing is when its soaked, or I'm sweaty.

Don't forget to try different diapers to find if one fits, and chafes less than others. For example, I'm 24/7 and rearz diapers cause me more problems than Tykables, or ABU. It all comes down to how well they fit you.

I suggest looking at diapers more than Pull-ups. Pull-ups are only meant for light incont folks.
