Elfy
It is pretty horrendous that these things happen in America or any other of the richer countries (since I have little doubt this isn't a US only phenomenon). I mean it is bad that it happens anywhere, but you would think more developed countries would have better conditions even for the lowest worker. Link to comment

Bettypooh
Like they say about sausage, if you like foods processed in a factory then you never want to go see them done. You really DON'T want to know what goes on in those places. A local chicken-processing plant was staffing with illegal immigrants but raids and a new system of fines per illegal worker on site changed that but they're still minimum wage and being coerced into working extra hours for free, denied breaks, lunches cut short etc if they don't meet their production goals. And fired if they don't oblige willingly and quietly. People don't stay there long- there are better jobs to be had and they soon move on to them Bettypooh Link to comment

WBDaddy
Of course, people talk about the 50's and how prosperous we were, and talk about "getting back there". No one realizes that we were only prosperous during WWII and its immediate aftermath because of the war itself. 1 Link to comment
