  1. Thanks for all the suggestions, I appreciate it.
  2. I fly back to my London office today, and I'm not afraid to sleep. I always wear a huge abri-san pad and it keeps my safe no matter what.
  3. So how do I begin... I have random bowel attacks that last a day or two at a time. When done, I'm left with the most horrible rash that takes forever to go away. During this healing time, I try to use regular underwear, as the increased airflow & dryness helps with the healing. I would use baby powder "back there" to help with the dryness issue, but how do I apply this on my own? I can easily powder up my diapers when the IC occurs, but I don't want powder all over my clothes (dark dress slacks). Thanks
  4. There are people I have met in my life whom I wanted to leave a stinky one. Having said that, I could care less about what they are doing now, and I would care even less once I'm gone.
  5. I have used a fanny pack at times, although it won't hold more than one diaper and a few wipes.
  6. They have not responded to any of my quality issues either. Perhaps I need to gripe in Danish.
  7. I have been using Abri-san pads since I find them easier to change. My latest case came in the "AirPlus" design, where previously they were plastic backed. These leak- alot!! They have been consistently damp an hour after my first wetting. I can't wear these any longer than a Depends, which is very frustrating. I have not received any help from the online store where I bought them, or from Abena. If this is the same material used in the briefs, I am very surprised that you find them adequate.
  8. When I have used the rolling trick, all the absorbent stuff drops into my crotch once wet.
  9. As many of you know, I travel a lot for my job, both US and overseas. Well, I injured my leg a while back and now I'm on crutches until I get better. To help me deal with my travel adventures, I have to use the wheelchair services at the airports now. For those of you who have been doing this longer than I- 1. What is proper tipping etiquette? 2. What else do I need to know? Thanks!
  10. Dmavn- My wife and I did a 3 week cruise in the Med, and it was fantastic! Go my friend, and enjoy the trip. I have many friends who have done the SEA-AK cruise route and they all loved it- even my grumpy parents. We live near Seattle, and watch the cruise ships go out every Sunday afternoon while we are out sailing. The idea of a duffel bag for your supplies is a great one, as is the idea of shipping cases of your diapers to the hotel ahead of time. Call the concierge and make these arrangements so that they are waiting for you there when you arrive. As for flying, I do that out of Seattle at least 3 time a month year round for work. I do flights from 4 to 9 hours with no issues, though I hate the Taipei route... The airport is well laid out, and help can be found if you have mobility issues. I have had lots of understanding help from the TSA folks there when going thru screening. If your flight is long, take extra diapers on board with you in a fanny pack. That way you can discretely carry them into the head when you need a change.
  11. I have learned to live with the AB/DL community here. They were a great help to me when I first became IC years ago, when no one else was. They still have some valid points, and I don't mind them. Occasionally, I try to take the AB mindset, but it just doesn't work for me.
  12. Dude- paint the house! Really. Get out a brush, roller and some buckets. THEN get your nappy on and drink a lot of water. That way you will get something done with your life besides self gratification. From an old fart who is really ic.
  13. While I do wear cloth ones occasionally, I mostly use disposables. Yes, cloth is more comfortable. I still hope to to not need my diapers some day, so I remain in this denial. Kind of like not buying cigarettes by the carton I suppose. On the plus side, I just flew from Seattle to London with only one change.
  14. My wife our kids all the critters that go along with that distant family friends
  15. I make about 6 flights each month up and down the west coast. I do about 4 cross-country flights each year, and as many to the UK. I have to change twice on the SEA to LHR flight, but I will sometimes do a change just before we land so that I don't have to use the toilet in Terminal 5. Security is real easy with my carry-on of diapers & laptop.
  16. I have been using Abri-San 7s for a year or so, buying in bulk from XP Medical. They do what I need, and the changing is far easier with liners than it is with diapers or briefs. Lately my bowels have been acting up, so I placed another order, this time buying the 9s instead. XP doesn't carry them, so I had to order from NorthShore. Well, the liners (huge pads- diapers with no waist tapes IMO) no longer have plastic backing. They use the "Air Plus" backing like the Abena diapers. Long story short- they leak. That cloth material leaks right through before the padding ever fills up. Long before it feels full and in need of a change, it has wet the back of my jeans.
  17. I have had to keep score for many Little League games when my bowels were disagreeable. If not for diapers, my kids would have been very disappointed, and I would have been very uncomfortable.
  18. It may be embarrassing, but I suggest that you have a talk with your relations once you get there. These kinds of things are easier in person. (I know from experience) It is only fair that they know- it's their bedding right? They are being helpful enough to house you- so trust them to help you navigate the local health care infrastructure. They will know about state-sponsored medical care, and can help you get the supplies you need and even things like plastic bags & trash can in your room, rash creams, etc. BTW, I am only suggesting using any state-sponsored insurance for your incon supplies- not for meds, although that would be your choice. Meds never worked well for me, so that is my bias.
  19. 1. The dirty looks I get for using the Family Restroom. 2. The lousy quality of disposables at retail stores. Running out isn't any fun. 3. The fact that I am forever defined by my underwear. 4. Rashes
  20. What he said- online stores have far better products to choose from.
  21. Wow- when I first clicked on that video I thought he was going to talk about "Republicans". Thanks Rocker- this was a rather thoughtful idea to bring forward. We have a number of God's eternal children in our extended family, and I love them all.
  22. All argument about shelf space aside, I find this thread (the ORIGINAL one) to be a fascinating one. Yes, it does seem that the diaper vendors are trying to increase their market size by several means. First off, they are creating a perceived need, just like ED and Restless Leg Syndrome did a few years ago. Hell, Apple does it all the time- nobody thought they needed an iPod/iPhone/iPad until Steve Jobs told us we did. As the baby boomers mature, getting them familiar with diapers in a forward thinking strategy. So let's start with the "convenience" argument. Then it is an "occasional or light" problem so we should wear something that looks like our underwear. Then we will gradually move up to the more full time diapers that us incons know and love. I can see a time in the future (he puts on his prognosticators hat and takes a deep draw on his meerschaum pipe) when cloth diapers become fashionable again for all the environmental and cost savings reasons. At that point, entrepreneurs will begin to offer adult diaper services like they do now for babies. The increasing costs of eldercare will accelerate this trend.
  23. I travel around 50% of the time, and I have never had an issue with security and my diapers. On trans-oceanics I always fly diapered- the chances of getting into the restroom before the urge becomes more are slim these days. Planes are too crowded to try toilet roulette any more. I always use disposables when flying- easier to change & dispose of. The security people just don't care about the diapers in with my laptop.
