  1. Ads in social media by car mechanics or asking for a car mechanic. "I do break jobs." Me: If you advertise that you break it, I don't think I want to use your service.
  2. Given the web forums & that everyone is an author, often with little care given to grammar and usage, I have become inured. It doesn't faze me anymore.
  3. I am going on 5+ years of wearing most night. I don't think I'd pee the bed if I went without a diaper, but not sure. Getting closer, but I still always wake up to pee. May never get there. I was not a bedwetter past the usual age. Don't know what age I was dry at night. Normal to early I think.
  4. I'm sure there are lots of lightly used machines that I can buy. OK, avoid computerized ones. Thanks for that. I know Singer has (or had) great support, and many of the mechanicals were the same for decades. Not sure about other brands though. Have a lot to learn. Don't know the difference between 'serger' and normal. I gather a 'serger' is best for locking the ends of the fabric. But I can do the same stitch with a 'normal' machine but it's only two threads instead of four? Can I just run over it twice then? If these are silly/too basic questions... I suppose I should find a "Sewing for Beginners" book before I continue here. Edit: OK... figured out the 'FL' is FetLife
  5. Need fabric that absorbs & doesn't squeeze out liquid when there's pressure on it, like when I'm lying on it. Also, that can withstand hot water and a hot dryer. Would Zorb satisfy these needs? Couldn't find those specs on the link. I went to a fabric store and bought a yard of 'diaper fabric', all cotton. Rather thin weight. We'll see what I can do with it, w/o cutting or sewing. Not sure what I want to do yet. I like the idea of making my own. Still have to get the machine. Leery of buying a used machine that turns out to be worn out or with non-available parts & accessories.
  6. Considering modifying some diapers I have. I may put 'wings' on some diapers to increase their effectiveness for side sleeping. They're a size smaller than the ones I routinely use for sleeping. But the bigger ones are getting worn, and rather than buy all-new ones, I could make use of the fair number of these smaller ones I already have, if they only had more material around the sides. Looking for advice on the fabric to buy and on the sewing stitches and what sort of sewing machine I would need. I've never sewed anything but this is a low-risk project. If I mess up I can just start over. Would rather go used. Any advice where to buy and what to watch for so I don't get a clunker?
  7. For me, after a night or two of wearing, slightly calmer. I think it's related to not having to get up to pee. More specifically, to not laying in bed for a while half awake needing to pee, but peeing when I need to & getting right back to sleep. I'm not a doctor or physiologist, but from my reading I think it may be related to hormones that are produced at night to keep your bladder from filling & waking you up. Vasopressin. The release or injection of vasopressin into the bloodstream is well known to cause anxiety. For you, being in your beloved's arms may certainly help the effect! There's another hormone, testosterone, produced in the testes. When the testes heat up, as they do when wearing insulation, they produce less. This may also have an effect, although, I don't think it's immediate but I'm just guessing.
  8. Might be helpful if you take something with electrolytes / minerals. Not good for your health to drink too much liquid, especially routinely. I'd just not, at least not routinely. Been wearing diapers to bed off & on (mostly on) for about 5 years. I was traveling for a few days & didn't wear diapers at night. I had a pee dream! Don't recall ever having a pee dream, except for once when I was about 20 & which iirc was the very last time I sleepwet the bed. Woke up immediately after this pee dream, went straight to the toilet to pee, didn't pee the bed. Didn't have to go badly. If I had been more tired / bladder more full, maybe I would have peed the bed. Or maybe I just would've woke up sooner. In recent times, have not peed the bed when undiapered. Well, once I did, but it was intentional. And, the mattress has a waterproof cover at all times just in case of leaks, so the damage wasn't bad. Edit a day later to add: Had another pee dream, of peeing in my diaper. (The while-traveling pee dream was at a row of public urinals.) Then I woke up, and soon was peeing my diaper almost automatically. So there's progress but it's very slow. Maybe have been having these dreams but not thinking about it /remembering.
  9. I'd love to line dry, but Ain't gonna fly my freak flag, literally, for all the neighbors to see.
  10. I enjoy reading the longer, thoughtful answers, that took some care to compose and post. Even if I've read them before.
  11. Not harassed, no PMs involved. Just minor annoyance at the posts characteristic of certain users. Wouldn't bother me except they're repeated again and again in thread after thread. One person's trash is another's treasure, not casting aspersions. Just a personal wish. I tried 'Ignore User' and it doesn't do what I'd hoped. Maybe that's just for PMs?
  12. I know it's a long shot. I long for a button to 'Ignore User' and one for 'Ignore Thread'. I see the former on some web boards but not often the latter.
  13. Ate a salty meal at a restaurant. The next night, 24+ hours later, major soaking.
  14. I am getting closer. It is so easy now to let go. Have wet the bed twice now not wearing diapers. Consciously, only because it was so easy to let go, and because the bed is protected. Had a dream last night, was laying prone and peeing in my diaper. This was around the time I'd actually gone in my diaper and gone back to sleep. I think. It's been five years since I started. Wear most nights but take breaks now & again. Love it, helps me relax.
  15. I have never figured out how to clean them so they don't have a bad odor when used the next time. Chlorine bleach does work, but it wears out the cloth very fast, so I've given up on chlorine bleach. I am using hydrogen peroxide now, about 1/2 cup per load. Seems like my cleaning regime is hit or miss. Sometimes acceptable, sometimes not. Never as good as with chlorine bleach. I sleep alone, so I can deal with it either way. In light of this, I'd recommend to use thinner diapers but more of them. That way they'll wash & dry better. My current diapers, Adult Cloth Diaper overnight weight prefold birdseye, are very thick in the middle. They have terry cloth middle layers which are very bulky and don't wash or dry easily.
  16. My experience (after five years) with the bladder volume issue is that it seems to return to normal after a few days of not wearing to bed. Edit 9/7: I have not wetted the bed w/o wearing yet. But I'm not sure if I've wetted while asleep or not. What's new & taken a long time to get there, is if somewhat awake, the awareness of the need to pee isn't much present (half full, say), but then flow begins suddenly and surprisingly, without any conscious effort at all. Being conscious, I could stop it, but diapered so I don't. And I fall asleep very quickly, maybe before finishing. So maybe it will happen someday, maybe soon, what others have reported. I'll go to bed undiapered and wake up surprised mid-stream or in a soaked bed.
  17. I've been wearing at night for about five years. Not every night, only maybe about 90%. Sleep longer & better on many nights when I wear, but it took a while to gain this level of comfort. Haven't yet peed the bed when I wasn't wearing. Peeing in bed 2-3 times a night vs. holding it & waking up once seems to have a calming effect for the following day(s). I think there's a hormonal thing going on. Could be related to vasopressin, the anti-diuretic hormone produced at night that also produces anxiety. The diaper does hold heat in. Get used to reducing the blankets and/or sweating and/or turning up the a/c. This part can be not fun. I wonder if the hormonal effect is, or is also, related to cooking the testosterone-producing piece and slowing down the production of testosterone.
  18. There may be direct hormonal reasons that wearing & using decreases anxiety. No need to resort to pseudo-Freudian mumbo-jumbo. I'm no doctor or endocrinologist, but from reading that stuff about (for example) vasopressin and blood pressure regulation, I see that the hormones involved with that are also involved with anxiety & other psychological affects/effects impacting on anxiety. Wearing a diaper enables you to let go whenever you first feel the need, so the hormone states associated with a full bladder and needing to pee are greatly reduced or eliminated. There's also the effect of heating up the testicles by blanketing them with a diaper, causing a decrease in their testosterone output. Not sure which is more important. I've felt it too, a definite decrease in anxiety when I wear overnight. And other effects including lower blood pressure that make me think there's something hormonal going on. But maybe, still, there are some purely Freudian things going too. The diaper and the sensation of wearing give me something novel to focus on other than my day-to-day troubles.
  19. New plan with Borax. So far, I am having good luck with it. Not sure enough yet; won't say it's a complete success. What certainly failed is chlorine. Eats up the diapers really fast. 1. Hot water wash with detergent. Spin to remove as much detergent & pee as possible, but do not rinse. 2. Remove the spun-out diapers (best if still warm from the hot wash) from the washer. Restart the normal hot wash cycle. I am using the cycle that does one hot wash, one cold rinse, same as I might use for cotton bath towels. 3. While the washer is filling with hot water, take a bucket and fill it with an inch or two of hot water. Put 1/2 cup of borax in, and make sure it's dissolved. (Press the chunks with your fingers to crush them. Stir / agitate until all the solids are dissolved. It will take a few minutes but it will eventually all dissolve.) 4. When the washer is about 3/4 full, pour in the borax solution. Turn the level selector switch down so that it will agitate. Let the agitator mix in the solution with the water that's in the tub. 5. Put the spun diapers in the tub, press down so that they are infused with the borax solution. Turn the level selector switch back to 'Large' or 'Max' or whatever, so it completes filling as needed, and restart the wash cycle. 6. Only one rinse. Some residual borax will remain in the diapers during the dry cycle, but maybe this is to the good. It may help inhibit bacteria/enzymes when you're using the diaper. I've read some web hysteria/panic over borax, but further & deeper reading makes me believe it's a false panic. Some people report the stuff is actually healthful taken as a supplement. 7. An additional factor is I give even longer in the dryer now. Longer than the max time on the dryer's timer. Now, I reset for longer time before they cool off, don't let them sit even 1 hour. To make sure the night weight (super thick) diaps I use are really fully dry. That might be a helping factor.
  20. Intriguing but scary. The alarm thing. If I start doing that, it may be all over for my night time control. I am not sure I want true bedwetter status. It's nice being able to sleep if desired or necessary w/o putting on a diaper. As I said, I am already noticing profound changes in my thoughts or personality when I wear vs. when I don't. Less anxiety when I'm wearing, but also less drive and less accomplishment. I'd like to retain the option to go back.
  21. I tried 20 Mule Team Borax before this, but it didn't seem to work. This time, I have a new plan. The goal is to get dissolved borax in the diapers and have less possible interference from detergent. Note: Some products that were formerly borax (e.g. Borateem) no longer have borax. Check the ingredients. I can't recommend chlorine after all. It works reliably to kill the funk, but it also eats up the fabric and markedly shortens its life. I think the cloth-eating property is hand-in-hand with the funk-killing property, no matter how little is used. The diaps are the night-weight prefolds from AdultClothDiaper.com. Very thick. That's part of the problem. I haven't found anything I like better, yet. 1. The water is slightly hotter. I didn't change the setting on the heater, but the colder temperatures where the heater is kept causes the control to compensate by heating the water more. I suppose I should get a thermometer to help control & understand. 2. I pre-washed with enough detergent (a little more than before) and hot water, then spun it out. (Instead of just pouring the 20 Mule Team Borax in with the detergent.) 3. Removed the spun-out diaps from the basket. Refilled the basket with hot water and while it was filling, hand-dissolved 1/2 cup of borax in a pail with a few inches of hot water. Made sure it was dissolved (stirred and sloshed and squished 'rocks' between my fingers) then poured it in the basket while it filled. Ran the agitator for a while to mix the borax with the rest of the water. Only then, put the spun diaps in to absorb the borax solution. Then, let this go through another wash cycle (borax solution & only the detergent that was left in the spun diapers) and finished as normal. Two cold rinses (as before. my washer cycle does this automatically), dry well. The jury is still out... (P.S. I wonder if one rinse would be better. Might be better to leave a bit MORE of the borax in while drying? My reading on the web makes me confident that borax is nearly not-toxic despite some current non-scientific panic/hysteria over it.)
  22. My god, I'll have to get a PhD in Gender Studies to figure out which one I fit under.
  23. I've never been a bedwetter. I think it's in the low single digits the number of times I wet a bed (unintentionally) past age 4 or so. I don't think I'm really making much progress toward becoming a bedwetter after all. Very slow progress, becoming comfortable peeing in any position. Maybe it'll sneak up on me, like with WBxx and SunOfSheep. Maybe very rarely, voiding while not 100% wide awake, not even sure of that. So some progress but very slow. I'll just try to be happy wearing my cloth diaps to bed every night or almost so. I was sick & stopped for a few days. It really does cause a change in personality, or at least in internal thought patterns. May be the heat on testicles & reducing testosterone, may be something else having to do with anxiety from a full bladder (a very real thing - 'vasopressin') when I'm not wearing, and lack of anxiety when I release early because I have a diap on. As for diaps, I use cloth diaps. The overnight prefolds from AdultClothDiaper.com. (Adultclothdiapers.com is a bad site). And the deluxe vinyl pants. I find that about one size larger in the diap than you might think from the size chart, and two sizes larger in the vinyl pant, works for me. I also use a soaker pad in front. Side sleeper so need some overlap on the sides. Lots of bulk between the legs, don't like that. Take forever to wash & dry, and I find I must use some bleach to kill the funk. So there are problems, and I'm trying other items, but I still like the overnight prefolds best. Took me a while to learn how to pin them so they were snug. No problem with that. I think I'm finally over the fear of leaks. Know how to diaper up so I don't leak. I no longer drink more fluids before going to bed. That didn't seem to be helping me void more freely, but it did increase the probability and fear of leaks. I have a pad and cover under the sheet so the consequences of a leak shouldn't be a ruined mattress. So the fear thing is slowly diminishing.
  24. Not yet, though not for lack of trying. I wear thick cloth to bed every night now. Last night, was surprised when started peeing without being consciously aware this was going to happen before it did. Was already mostly awake though. Maybe it'll come. They say bedwetting runs in families. I never did past the normal age for such things, except once that I recall when I was drunk or something. In college in my dorm room. I recall dreaming that I was visiting the loo. My brother was a bedwetter all the way to puberty & beyond, or so I recall. So maybe it'll happen. I'd encourage you to reflect on excessive drinking. Often takes a toll on one's health in the long run.
