So I am curious about this thing. So I hear the government shutdown. More curious who was all effected by this and how they are coping with it mentally and financially. It;s like almost 1am here and I have way to much time to think random thoughts.

^ this!

As for the OP, I'm not directly affected, but if markets go down then that creates a loss, but also opens up an opportunity for further investing and buying, so it can work for you if you want it to. The market was down today by 136, and in looking at the chart for the Dow (INDU) I see a trade gap from last December around the 13,250 area, so I figure that this 'shut down' will be the catalyst to drive the market down into that range to finish that business and close the gap, then its back up to where ever it wants to go.

I am also wondering if this 'law' which is so huge and sweeping in nature and scope should have been put out to a vote of the citizens who will ultimately end up paying for it, but instead, it got rammed down out throats :P

since it wasn't put a general vote of the public, as it probably should have. This also might be a way to get rid of this damn thing, since it was all done wrong to begin with and might be able to be declared illegal and tossed out.

Also what was mentioned above, if actions were taken to subvert the very structure and checks and balances of the Government that were originally created to AVOID such tyranny and abuse of power and control, which is what we have happening here, then we have a REALLY bad problem! Such people behind this subversion of control and structure should be tried for treason as traitors to the country! and if found guilty, taken out and SHOT!

Democrats and socialists obtained control of all 3 branches of Government and twisted it to their favor and essentially screwed everything up so they could have their way... this is the result. There are parties trying to fight this and stop it, but they keep getting out voted. :(

I also read in a message that Liberals were at the controls of important positions before the recession started (Housing committee and banking and finance) and they just turned everything on and let it go, opening loans and finance to anyone, and letting everything run wild, until it collapsed and ran the country into a recession. All so they could say "Look! capitalism doesn't work after all, it failed..we have to fix all this and control things more stringently because it doesn't benefit the little guy at the bottom etc" Again, conservatives tried to stop that, but were again out voted.

Yeah both sides are 'screwing around' but there is one side that is bound and determined to destroy the very base and foundations that this country was founded on, and this is what conservatives (tea party esp) are trying desperately to save and prevent happening, but the left has gone WAYYYYYY to far left, and evidently gone so far as to reprogram the Government so that only they have total control, and now you see the outcome.

Welcome to tyranny people, for those of you who voted for it, I hope you enjoy it.. :glare:

This Government lock up is the result of what we fought against in Viet Nam, Korea and the cold war, yet was allowed into the very fabric of our country and Government anyway, through lack of education and diligence.

Regan was correct, and where is Senator McCarthy when we so desperately need him!?? :(

Ahh, so you're opting to pay the "no healthcare" fine?

Me personally no because I can't afford to regardless how much the government helps because I don't make enough to get food and pay bills and health insurance now if it's free yeah I can do that but I'm on a budget I get maybe 30 dollars tobspend on myself.

the ACA was pissed by politicians not the American people. over fifty percent of Americans are against the ACA/Obamacare, it was not given to the people to vote on. I align myself with the tea party as I believe in the constitution, small federal govt. and separation of church and state. I also believe that health care in this country does need a reform. charging someone ten or more dollars for one aspirin is ridiculous. the aca also changed the standard forty hour week to a thirty two hour work week will harm workers as well. people will be earning less during a full-time job in the future plus people are going to see more of there money going to things that the government tells us to get. first it was mandatory that every driver or atleast every vehicle have insurance. now they are telling the American people that they HAVE insurance. the problem is that insurance companies are being mandated that no individual could be denied coverage. while this is awesome in theory, however, in doing so insurance companies are going to have to charge everyone more because they are going to be paying more money in claims. in order to maintain any kind of profit margin, they are going to have to charge EVERYONE more money for coverage and the bill also demands that insurance companies are going to have a guideline to what has to be covered. mathematics in this scenario works out to man the little guy ifs going to have to pay a lot more money.

I agree with every bit of that, especially the smaller government, the constitution, etc.. and the fact is America is already suffering under this law but the politicians don't care, except for those that was the law first defunded and then defeated.

I'm a Federal civilian and have so far not been furloughed. Politically, I view this as a fight for the middle. The ends of the political spectrum won't

Nice...what hat should I go buy so that i wont get shot?? :P Anyways, good to hear this silly thing is going to court again, as it should. I feel that something of this scope and impact on the American Citizen should have been put to a vote of the people who will ultimately be funding it. Since we DIDN'T get a chance to do that, nor was it offered or considered, then it should be thrown out...I hope the supreme court gets a back bone this time and toss it out. That way we will have the opportunity to write something a heck of a lot more meaningful and less garbage (10,000 pages of legislation?? REALLY!??) and do it right teh next time so this kind of crap wont happen.

Any government subsidy is a bad idea...and this one would just go from bad to worse.

I also wonder why, since 'health care' is so unfordable now (was it that bad in the past??) whythe Insurance companies weren't dragged into a hearing with Congress to find out WHY they don't offer affordable insurance for people, and WHY they have provision prohibiting per existing conditions and WHY they do what they do in the first place that makes health insurece and resulting care unfordable to many.

The bad boys behid this are the insurance companies, thats why health care jobs (and costs) have taken off in the last 20 years. Insurance companies paying the bills by taking over the medical industrie. The medical personnel then in turn, charge a lot more for goods and services because they perceive thatthe medical insurance companies have deep pockets and are basically cash cows, which they aren't.

All this goes back to the insurance companies and their take over (along with a LOT of Government involvement and lobbying) of the industry and basically having a monopoly on anything and everything 'medical'

These companies should be strictly regulated, but they wont be, they should be broken up much like the AT&T break up back in 1984...butthey wont...WHY?? because now the have Government subsidies PAYING them and giving them control! So you are going to watch health coats S*O*A*R even more because now the medical industry has access to the BILLIONS of dollars of Y*O*U*R tax money to bill against!!!!!

There is a way out of this for those of us who invest, if this thing continues, which I hope it wont :P....invest in and buy the insurance company stock. Most pay dividends (interest) that can be used to off set any expenses and be used to pay for your health care insurance :D granted this might take a few thousand dollars, but even buying a few shres here or there will help, and if you dollar cost average (buy a few shares each month, on the same date) then you are accomplishing 2 thigs....helping pay for your insurance, and building wealth at the same time...because health insurance companies aren't going away any time soon...nor are they likely to be taken private...

SO there is a silver lining (though rather tarnished) to this whole pile of :horse::glare:
