Love 'em Or Hate 'em Obama Is The Next President

Recommended Posts

My wife sat around watching the tv all night and I sat on the computer playing games and checking every 10 minutes to see who won. We voted much earlier today. It was like watching survivor or amazing race and waiting the end result. I'm hoping that change will truly come. Now only time will tell if what Bush did can be undone. Anyway its over and now we have a new African American president. Go U.S.A.

Yup, I agree with you completely Square_duck.

Bush (and the Republican Party with him) are being blamed for alot of crap that has come down the pike in the last 2.5 years simply because he was in office, and the mainstream media and liberals loathe him completely. I guarantee you if there was a Democrat in office when this all went down and a Republican immediately preceding him, the blame would be resting on the Pres' predecessor....oh wait, thats exactly whats going to happen as things get worse.

I don't trust Obama. The few glimpses we've gotten of his true face make me very wary. The way he's flipped out anytime anyone opposing him has exercised their freedom of political speech around him (i.e. Joe the Plumber, Hillary Clinton, Palin, etc.) makes me very wary of what things are going to be liked when his will is opposed by other world leaders or organizations. The policies he has proposed are going to make things really bad really quickly. I'm predicting this now.....Obama is going to be my generation's Carter.

Yes, I understand that alot of the country wants change. I do too...I think that the government is one of the most corrupt inefficient organizations on the planet. At the same time we really need to think about the kind of change that we want. Socialism or socialist style policies (i.e. "spreading the wealth around a bit") has caused high unemployment rates, higher inflation, economic stagnation, and sharp decreases in innovation everywhere that it has been tried. When you remove by fiat the financial rewards for excellence, what reason does anyone have to excel? The common good of the people? Um, no.

"Government isn't the answer to the problem. Government IS the problem."

I'm not actually from America, so I didn't vote, but Obama seems like a good speaker, so I do hope that he can restore America's wrecked relationship with the world. Every time the US goes to war Australia gets dragged along due to alliances, so I also hope Obama will be a peaceful president.

Let's hope that Obama will be able to turn his best intentions into action. I am sure he has the goodwill of many of us outside the US, but there are people such as Putin and Bin Laden who would be nothing unless they could portray America as being an enemy. To a great extent the election of Obama will have "shot their fox", but they will soon find other ways to humiliate you. Good intentions do not go very far in forming a foreign policy ( we tried that with an "ethical" foreign policy. It lasted only a few months before reality returned) and it is usually limited by events.

Let us wish him the best of luck and hope to God no-one shoots him!

I know that this is not a political blog, but Square Duck better go back to school on how the gov. works. Congress can't do much if the Pres doesn't sign it. And Bush owns the pen. I've seen lots of administrations over my long life (as have you) and I've supported both parties as the events require. This time, I think the facts are far too clear on the owners of this Fu$#@d up economy.

I am optimistic that the new guy can get it done. And, I honestly believe that McCain could have too. I'm just tired of the Republicans at the moment.

I had to pinch myself to make sure all this wasn't a dream, now we are truly fucked! I was sick to my stomach when I saw a picture of him on the internet with a cross behind him and a beam of light shinning on him like he is the black Messiah, more like the great black Satan! It is a sad time for America! :badmood:

The current economic troubles have been brewing for years and there is PLENTY of blame to go around to both Congress and Mr. Bush and the mostly the American citizenry. What is happening now is the consequence of irresponsible policies, neglect and the unquenchable American desire to live beyond our means.

We are truly screwed.

I am so not looking forward to the next four years.

There are two things I've noted so far:

1. I live in Houston, Texas where the black population is at about 25% (pretty decent). Since decision '08, I have noticed almost every black individual I've come across has had some form of smile or, for lack of better words, somewhat of a pep in their step. My hopes are that all of the black Americans who have felt oppressed, suppressed, or depressed (due to the fact they were convinced they lived in a 'racist', oppressive America) have now come to realize America is not "against them" and really hasn't been for a long while. Just an observation. Maybe someone can chime in...? I'm simply stating since Obama has been named President Elect, I really have been blown away by this new friendly, almost "team spirit" feeling I get from them, which, by the way, I've never EVER felt before.

2. Obama is and will be the most liberal President America has ever seen [thus far]. America will get a taste of what pure liberalism does for the economy, society, foreign policy, national security etc. Don't get me wrong, I'm not assuming liberalism isn't the key to all of America's "problems", I'm simply curious to see how it all pans out. America has been so 'hopeful' for the future. Hopeful that we can 'do it' (whatever 'it' means, so far we haven't been informed on what 'it' entails exactly). In the upcoming years, we will see what true liberalism does for us, the good and bad. Only time will tell how long 'hope' will last.

I don't like Obama, I don't have to like him..that being said, he is going to be our president, and I will support him and wish him the best of luck.

My biggest fear is that he won't live to see out his term in office. I, as well as many others I know, were waiting for him to be shot during his acceptance speech :( Thankfully it didn't happen, and I hope it doesn't happen.

That's what I've been thinking too. There have already been two assassination attempts against him that have been foiled. :o

What I'm worried about is Obama reinstating the Assault Weapons Ban of 1994, which would make my AR-15 illegal to own. Then. he also wants to put a bunch of other gun laws on the books too.

I do not hate Obama, I just don't agree with his political stances.

Allowing after-birth babies to die is murder. It made it out alive, despite a trained doctor trying to kill it.

He also believes in "reasonable" gun control. To liberals, them controlling all the guns is the only reasonable solution. Not acceptable.

Hmm well I'm Canadian so I didn't get to vote, but as far as I'm concerned Obama had two types of votes,

1) Those who hate Bush, and

2) Those who wanted a black president.

I live right across from Detroit, MI. I can't tell you the countless times I heard from the youth over there how they were voting for their" Black Brother Obama" or something along those lines. Tell me, please please enlighten me... what does Obama, who graduated from Harvard, and lives quite a wealthy life, who went to a private school, have in common with a poor person from the ghetto? Skin colour is just that, a skin colour. Racism works both ways, and it disgusts me that people were voting for Obama simply because he is black. I'm sure there'd be a problem if I went around saying "I'm going to vote for McCain, because he's white, and I want a WHITE president!"

Now, if I did my research correctly, Obama wanted to raise taxes on the Canadian/US border on goods shipped in and out of the US. He also wanted to get bordercity jobs back to the Americans, in places like Michigan and Ohio. That is bad for the Canadian economy. After Obamas people made a statement that it was, to put it simply (because I forget the exact term) a lie to help his campaign. Yeah - I'm totally going to trust a guy that has already begun to lie out his arse.

I'm also very, very curious as to who he's going to visit first. Bush broke a tradition, that outraged us Canadians. Generally the new President will come to see our Prime Minister, bush went to go see the Mexican dude. I'm wondering where Obama will go. Oh and Bush's whole "America has no truer friend than Britian," Oh, Oh really? Who did you fight a revolutionary war against? Britian, was it? Yes! No truer friend my ass. It's Canada who allows your planes that could carry terrorists on 9.11 to land in our airports, who lend soldiers and military supplies. No truer friend, that's complete bullshit.

Anyways, it's all fine and dandy that Obama is in office, but I bet now he's shitting his pants.

Good post Mandi....I wish half the kids your age in our country paid as much attention to and thought about the news as you obviously do.

Yes, I am concerned about Obama, on a number of levels. First, his policies that he wants to enact, as I mentioned before are economically damaging, not just to the US, but probably the whole world economy. Second, he's not got the kind of experience that you need to do the job properly. Third, he's a hack from the Chicago political machine. Fourth, the only reason he was elected was because of his race. Fifth, I seriously think he's going to get his ass assassinated sometime in the next few years, and leave us with another dried up old hack who couldn't even scrape up 2 million votes in the primaries.

Call me a racist if you want. I really don't care. I didn't vote for him because I think he is the personification of everything that I oppose politically. I'm not going to play the "oh hes the President now, lets all join together in solidarity" bullcrap.

On the off chance I'm included in that statement, I just want to say: I'm not going to support what he wants to do, but I'm not going to call for his head unless he really screws up, like Bush. I despise Bush, I want him impeached, but he will still be my president until he is out of office.

And about Obama's Gun Control stance...The only gun control I support is gun locks in houses that have children, and not allowing convicted murderers to possess guns. Other than that, I think I should be able to walk down the street with a full auto if I want. Obama has to learn that guns don't create fear, the lack of guns create fear. If everyone walked around with a gun, hardly anyone would try and rob/rape/kill another person because they would be more likely to die trying

Agreed, Skywolf. I'm not going to metaphorical shoot at the man just because he's there, but I'm not really expecting brilliance out of him. He's been espousing fairly liberal views throughout the campaign, and that was when he had to at least pretend to be a little more moderate. I respect the office enough for that, even if I don't respect the man in the office.
