  1. Honestly, I think that the main beef people have with new machines over their older machines is stockholm syndrome. On the other hand, they were definitely made of more durable stuff back them. Then again, it's easier to get replacements for the stuff we have today when they do break down.
  2. I've had 3 from different eras. We used a 1940's singer for making stuff for our wedding, and it was good for that, but that was just decorations. We used a 1970's Kenmore Sears brand for about a month before we got the computerized one when it was on sale for 150 bucks (plus free shipping, amazon prime, yo). The differences are tremendous, because the stitches are not the only thing that is different. The computerized tension knob ensures that the tension is right every single time. The feet on the machine feed wonderfully and don't catch. And the bobbin case is so much easier to use it amazes me that people were even able to use the old ones like what I had on the singer and the Kenmore. When you get more into it, you will realize that the most important thing is an even stitch that comes out right the first time every time. I can't tell you how many times i've gone nuts having to take something apart time after time because the old machine wouldn't stitch things evenly and the stitch came out. Seriously, it's worth the investment.
  3. Hey Rina, Seriously, invest in a new machine if you are going to do steampunk. The extra stitches are so useful to getting garments that are going to be durable. The single stitch line can break so easily, and there are so many things you can do with the modern machines. The wife and i currently have a Singer Fashion Mate computerized machine. Instead of having to use cams or other knob fiddlings to get the stitch right, it's just a matter or choosing the stitch you want off the list printed on the front of the machine, and pressing the up keys until you get to it. It's completely uncomplicated. Here is a link to the one we have: http://www.amazon.com/SINGER-7256-Fashion-70-Stitch-Computerized/dp/B005HR1JMO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1338307163&sr=8-1 My wife went from completely inexperienced to making outfits that she could wear to conferences in a matter of a couple months. She did this by using Simplicity Patterns and she got a few beginner sewing books like Sewing in a Straight Line by Brett Bara and a few other beginner books that had her doing projects to learn how to do the different stitches before moving onto making garments. Simplicity makes a few steampunk patterns too, you can find them at Jo-Ann fabrics Also I totally agree that investing in a good pair of Shears is worth every penny. Gingher shears are probably a good place to look. You can get fiskers, but they don't last as long, and you can't have them re-sharpened when they dull as you can with Gingher shears. Good luck!
  4. are the dry 24/7 the white mediums or the old version of medium that is blue?
  5. that's it? who makes? where can find? y u no tell me where to buy?!?
  6. craigs list is free and devoid of any advertising. the only way you have to pay is if you are using it for commercial interests like posting jobs and stuff from what i understand. angie's list seems to be a review site where independent reviewers vet companies, so my guess is there is more overhead to something like that. craig went to my high school, and i use his service all the freaking time. got my last 3 apartments that way. -piper
  7. i like it so far. keep up the good work -piper
  8. Do you have a link to what you are actually looking for? Just to give us an idea of what you want. -piper
  9. meh, i'm a nurse. we talk about poop when we are eating dinner. pretty much nothing can phase me anymore. DON'T GO PUSHING YOUR LUCK THOUGH!
  10. green poop happens whenever you drink/eat something with a lot of dye in it, like purple gatorade or powerade especially. i can't remember which dye it is, but it kept happening to me when i would eat these laffy taffys. it's usually nothing serious, unless you start seeing black tarry kind of stuff in there. that's something to worry about and should be checked out by a physician.
  11. http://www.dailydiapers.com/board/index.php?showtopic=14788 That's the link on here. I remember that story, and really enjoyed it. Shame it was never finished.
  12. I got one of the first ones, and I give it about the same I would give the regular latex one. Certainly, if you are allergic to latex, this is a good alternative, but given the comfort between the 2, you're better off with the nuk5
  13. Goerge has had incontinence desires for a long time, as is evident on his posts throughout this board over the years. He's not a troll per se, but his desires and his issues with them go deeper than the people on this board are equipped to deal with. I recommend not touching this thread with a ten foot pole. Goerge, the anal sphincter can stretch, and double fisting yourself is not going to make you incontinent. It could tear your rectum however, introducing bacteria into your blood stream causing septicemia, which can make you die. Please don't go down this road again. -piper
  14. The idea that cloth diapers are better for overnight really has to do with the speed at which they absorb urine, especially if you are a side sleeper. It's not necessarily needed if you are not a bedwetter, but if you are going to use cloth diapers and plan on messing in them, it might not be a bad idea to invest in some disposable cloth diaper liners to help with ease of clean up. You'd want to get your stool in the toilet before washing them, and having it on a liner would make it much easier. Here is a link to a website that sells them. Their parent company also sells adult cloth diapers and plastic pants. http://www.clothdiaper.com/PRODUCTS/DIAPER-INSERTS http://www.adultclothdiaper.com Hope this helps! -piper
  15. Babykins is wonderful. Their onesies are probably the best value on the market for those in north america. I highly recommend all of their products.
  16. could be that since you produce less urine at night, there is less pressure on your bladder to void. Urgency is when your body notices that it has a set amount of urine that it needs to void, and doesn't give you much time to get it out. Since this set amount is less likely to be obtained at night, there is less likelihood that you are going to find yourself in an urgency situation at night. Doesn't mean it can't happen, just means that it is less likely.
  17. did you ever get these DD? they were supposed to be out on the 18th but they still say "pre-order" on the walgreen's site
  18. i drove around to like 5 different stores the other day to see if i could find a s/m pack that had the sample. I found one that was the L/XL but there is no way that those are going to fit me, so i gave up. I can't wait for these to come out, even though i don't really care for depends stuff. It just looks neat is all
  19. I found this on the art of trolling http://artoftrolling.memebase.com/2012/03/06/yahoo-answers-troll-whos-your-daddy-2/ Kind of dumb, but it's on a pretty mainstream site. -piper
  20. I remember adrian discussing this a few times. Most of the way down on the front page of her blog is the most recent update of that. http://www.iheartdiapers.com Unfortunately her site is really buggy right now and you can't navigate it other than to see the front page.
  21. I just saw those yesterday, they seemed like the new pads we are getting at our hospital. As I have no desire to find out their effectiveness because I don't wet the bed, I'll leave that up to you guys to figure out. -piper
  22. I just talked with a rep from Drycare today, and he told me that they are completely re-doing the Small (formerly medium) range and there are no diapers available in that size. The time it takes for the product to be tested, approved by the FDA, etc. is going to take at minimum about 6 months. He gave me some line about making it more absorbant, etc. and I was thinking WTF because it can already absorb half the Atlantic. But for those of us on the small end of things, don't expect Dry 24/7's because the mediums are more like a large, and they are going to fit you if you are normally in the bottom of the range for mediums (like 32" waists and smaller). -piper
  23. Once again amazing freswith. you have such a way with words. I'm so glad to see this story back on the front page where it belongs!
  24. I have only bought about 4 cases from them, and have only really ever had a few of the taps on the diaper be a little bit folded improperly, which caused no issue with the usage of the diaper anyway. I have only ever bought directly from them though, so I don't have anything to compare. I'm actually going to buy a case tonight, I've run out, and i miss them so!
