overactive bladder from wearing too often?

Recommended Posts

When I've had a nappy wearing binge my bladder becomes over-sensitive and the smallest amount of urine in my bladder feels uncomfortable and and I have to use toilet and pee, this will be only a very slight dribble in toilet and I have to remember to clench afterwards. My bladder has become over-sensitive and I'm noticing I'm using the toilet more often when not wearing and my stream is weaker. I'm waking up straight from sleeping to use the toilet in the night multiple times and really it isn't a full bladder anymore and the stream isn't strong like it used to be. I always pee while taking a poo.

I go through long binges wearing and I wet at the slightest urge without clenching, this has become a habit now. I just dribble and gush all day without much notice keeping everything relaxed. when peeing in my nappy it doesn't have the volume and its week

I like the thought of IC but keep chickening out just going 24/7 for months.

Am I becoming incontinent? What will be my next symptoms if I just went 100% wearing? I think I already have a overactive bladder? What would be next?

I'd say it's easier at this point to just be padded and don't worry about it. If you like your undies train yourself back by staying out of padding for a long time. Only indulge a day at a time. This statement is only based on personal experience.

That would actually be an UNERactive bladder since its job would be to hold the wet. Overactive would mean that it does not release when it should

Username, Your weak urinary stream is a fairly serious symptoms of a medical problem. You need to have that problem checked  out medically. Frequent diaper wearing should not lead to the problems you describe. Many diaper lovers wear diapers 24/7 for years without developing any reduction in bladder control (even if they would like to).

I don't think I have any prostate problems. I have no trouble peeing but over years have got used to just dribbling without clenching and now I pee in little dribbles and gushes. I believe my sphincters have got weaker from prolonged wearing and maybe thats why the stream is weaker?

Some people try for months/ years to untrain their bladder/ get their bladder muscles used to just going. Sounds like this could be a bit different though? Sudden medical changes should always be checked out by a doctor, just to make sure all body parts are healthy and there's nothing problematic going on. Health isn't anything to play around with. and if you did lose function from excessive wearing, well, sounds like you're at the cross roads point. Do you want to continue untraining and possibly become diaper dependent or end up risking wet pants, or do you want to reverse and try to gain control?  But first thing would be to rule out any health changes! Also, if you're becoming incontinent, having a doctor say so can be a source of relief/justification for diaper wearing for some people seeking incontinence. It can lessen the guilt they feel for wearing 24/7 (like "oh I don't NEED diapers, so I shouldn't do this..it's not normal etc but the doctor's diagnosis can absolve that guilt. Guilt which is 100% not necessary btw- nothing wrong with wearing diapers. Normal is so over rated! Wear what you want, it's not harming anyone else!)

I agree with @Cute_Kitten - Sounds to me like you are AT LEAST suffering from weak flow, and even if it is NOT anything that APPEARS to be serious, I would have yourself checked.  I remember when I decided to use diapers to deal with my incontinence:  The State was debating with me about going to all these "specialists."  They said that I would have to go to a urologist and be checked to see if there was a medical problem, saying that they may be able to "fix" the problem.  I just said, that because of my Cerebral Palsy, and because of the fact that it was neurological, that there was NO NEED for that, and because of changes in my condition, that my Primary Care Doctor should be able to diagnose me as incontinent, and already SAID I was dealing with IBS and Diverticulitis, so HE is the "specialist" that I have been dealing with, and he can make the diagnosis that is necessary for that.  To have me go to a Urologist, well, that's a WASTE of money, and time, because I ALREADY have a condition that is known for causing issues: Having CP alone is enough to warrant concerns that I will possibly lose continence, or  control of bladder and/or bowels.  In my case, it CAN and has been documented.   I simply want to make sure that I get what I need, can be comfortable with wearing/using diapers, and have it documented, so they KNOW I am incontinent:  that way, if I am IN a hospital, they have it recorded:  I'm NOT playing around anymore, and as I age, it will be necessary to have that piece of mind:   Now that I have what I need, and it is documented, as a diagnosis, NO ONE will question it, whether it is one of my team members, or medical professionals.

People with CP are, depending on severity, dealing with either mobility or cognitive, or intellectual issues, and maybe ALL of these, or a mix of one or two of them, and if you are also using devices such as Wheelchairs, Walkers, Crutches, or any other support device, you know that you have difficulties in some areas.  I've had my CP for LIFE, so I understand that there may be questions of health, and that things need to be checked:  In my case, however, there was diagnosis by the Primary Doctor, and that alone should be able to prove medical need for diapers and whatever else is needed.  :)

ANY time you have a MAJOR change to the way things are working, you should have it looked at - especially in your case.  It will then be a way to make sure you are healthy, and that you do not have anything that is causing other problems.  As @Cute_Kittensays, if the doctor tells you that you are incontinent, then BOOM - There you go, and you can than ask him/her about ways to deal with it. (Diapers) If they say you are not incontinent, than at least you know either way.  If you are incontinent, and the doctor confirms that, you will have the piece of mind that you are healthy.

GUILT:  You should NOT feel GUILTY if you make a choice that diapers and other incontinence products are the way you want to deal with it.  For me, it was a decision that I made after a lot of soul searching, and after I came to the realization that diapers are NOT bad:  They are just "special underwear that you can pee/poop in: and that is it.  It may NOT be "normal" to some to wear diapers, and if we are talking society norms, people may chastise and judge you, but hey, don't worry, because the idea here is that YOU are comfortable, and you can wear what you want:  it does NO harm to wear a diaper, or to like diapers, or other facets of the AB/DL lifestyle either - When you have a diaper on, you are at least able to say "I wont have to worry if I use it, because that is what it is for!"

Good Luck!

Brian
