How to ask the doctor to precribe u diaper

Recommended Posts

You can't, at least unless you are up front about the real reason.  You can not fool a doctor with a "bladder problem" unless you actually have one or possibly you are a doctor yourself specializing in urology and incontinence.  Any doctor will want to do all kinds of tests to find the reason you can't hold your urine, refer you to a urologist or other specialists , otherwise they could be sued for malpractice or other reasons.  They are doctors and it's not their job to just put a band aid on a wound or ignore a problem.  It's their job to find the cause of that wound and cure it if they can.  They will try different tests, ask you tons of questions and if you try and lie with your answers, they will know you are lying.  They will try treatments and maybe even prescribe medications.  Ultrasounds, X-rays, MRI's of your bladder and urinary system (all expensive even with insurance) to try and find a reason for your "incontinence".  There are a few members here who have just come out to their doctor that they do not have any bladder issues but have made a personal choice to wear diapers as their underwear.  If your goal is to be 24/7 or wear diapers to your doctor appointments, that would probably be the best all around way to go.  Just be open about it and leave it at that.  As far as prescribing you diapers, that isn't likely to happen unless tests are done first, results of an actual medical issue are found and all other treatment options are exhausted.  It could be insurance fraud on both your part and the doctor's part if they prescribe diapers that are not actually needed because you do not have a medical problem.  One reason for all the tests and everything, and even then an insurance company may want to see the results of such tests and question other options if they are looking to pay out monthly for a very cheap brand of incontinence product.  It's just not a smart or wise thing to do and could land you in trouble for insurance fraud.

Rusty Pins said it!
You’d do yourself a favor, if you looked for other cheaper alternatives to get diapers. Trying to bilk the system is very unwise.
I would suggest, looking for cheap diapers at your local thrift stores.

Hi,

If you have a bladder issue, then get. the testing done, but your chances for diapers at your age is slim. Because most Dr.s see a lifetime of diapers as a really bad decision. So they will go for pill after pill to find the one that works.

Always be open and honest with your doctor and urologist explain your issues and have them run some tests,  most urologists will recommend any other treatment other then diapers at first. I chose diapers over meds right at the start of my IC issues even though my urologist was really wanting me to be a lab rat and go on a blind medication study.   Since diapers were my choice we pay for my supplies as our insurance does not cover diapers just meds or catheters.

Your urologist will assign an continence nurse in most cases  to help manage your IC issues and to confirm you indeed have a medical issue, get checked out and talk to your doctor to see what he finds and recommends then discuss your choice to wear diapers 24/7 but be prepared to at least try some different treatments to manage your bladder issue this way he can see your issue may be best managed by wearing diapers and can then proscribe diapers as your recommended management plan.

Remember never lie or miss inform your Doctor on any medical issue

Even if I become incontinent I wouldn't want the crappy diapers I would get, even for free
I have bought them myself, and tried them on, but they are garbage

So, before you go that route, find out what diapers you can get covered

I did a flyby on whether my insurance would pay for cloth diapers and the answer was yes.In fact, the person asked if I was interested  and nothing was said about a doctor. Since I have quite enough diapers and things I really do  not need it. I was just curious

That's all assuming he is actually incontinent.  From his listing and post, I get the opposite idea and that he is just a DL with no actual medical issue looking for a way to tell his doctor he needs diapers with the objective of obtaining a prescription in order to obtain them for free.  If that is the actual case, it's insurance fraud.
