Supposedly, my connection is supposed to be 23K. But someone on another forum pointed out that that's about 8x the download speed. But if that formula is true, then I have an 8-16K connection most of the time.

I can't recall where, but there's a freebie site which tests your connection speed and tells you what's really going on Many ISP's give you the 'upload' speed (send) while your 'download' speed (receive) is much slower My old dial-up was ostenbsibly 56K. I got about 40 'up' but only 15-18 'down' which made surfing s-l-o-w Have you checked to see if anyone has an open wifi near you? There are ways to extend range somewhat without breaking the bank to do it

I live out in the sticks, outside of a small town where wifi doesn't exist. High speed internet costs and arm and a leg out here, cause we're just outside of the rage or not in a good enough line-of-sight for their satellites, or whatnot. And none of the cable companies want to bother with laying cable out here. My family and extended family are constantly trying to find an affordable means of obtaining high-speed internet, and the subject comes up regularly. It seems that it's just not possible to obtain here now, and may not be for quite some time...
