NO. The Electoral College was created to prevent over populated cities/states like New York and California from being the only deciders of the presidential election. The president presides over the Fifty States, NOT the individual population of the nation. The STATES elect the president, NOT the population. Without the Electoral College, the voters in sparsely populated states like Wyoming or Montana would have NO VOICE in who becomes president.
