well, i don't think anyone should have to explain that, since feminist scholars have been writing about it since the 90s.

regardless of individual women, most academics/scholars/intellectuals who have researched & written about it have agreed to at least the idea that on a systemic level, porn often is demeaning to women & creates discursive space for further objectification & abuse of women, as well as creating unrealistic expectations for sexual performance. but again, that's a systemic problem, not necessarily a problem of any one woman.

it is definitely true that many women who work in porn do so because they enjoy the lifestyle. but the discourse we participate in, as well as the media we consume, effects our reality. no, we shouldn't get rid of it or censor it, or whatever, but we do need to be careful in our consideration of its possible effects.

you seem to think i'm talking about the individual women who actually star in porn. i'm not. while many sex workers (both men & women) are abused or taken advantage of, i recognize that porn stars are making a choice to be involved in that work, & i respect it.

i'm talking about the systemic issues that are both created in/through & create the porn industry as it stands. most scholars use the sapir-whorf hypothesis to relate to this issue, as well as philosophers michel foucault (who writes about discourse & sexuality) & louis althusser (who talks about interpellation into dominant systems of discourse).

but again, i'm just relating what people say who get paid to be smart.

Is there something wrong with me - I don't have any interest in watching porn - the actors are amature, as is the plot, and the set. I'd prefer participate (if I could believe that is somewhat real) than ideally watch someone else. Even in a real situation, I have no interest watching another couple 'playing'. My wife asked me to video a couple of our experiences... which I did, but after she watched them, I deleted them. I get no enjoyment watching my wife and I doing something - but I do enjoy remembering the situation. I am about the tactile feelings, and watching the event is boring to me.

I haven't seen very much porn, but based on what I've seen, I can't stand the following:

- The general cheapness, stupidity, and lack of originality--by "originality," I don't mean strained attempts to be original just for originality's sake. - Overly fantastical plots, i.e. far-fetched excuses to get the characters to zip from casual interaction to wild, kinky sex. Yes, I realize porn has a strong fantasy element, but I find fantasies much more satisfying when they are at least somewhat believable. If you're going to throw in a dumb, hurried plot as an excuse for the sex, why not just skip the plot altogether? You don't need an excuse for sex in PORN!

- Oversize breasts and penises that are too freakish to be sexy.

- Overdoses of cum-tography. The sight of landed cum gets old much more quickly than filmmakers seem to realize.

Porn does objectify women, but hopefully men will realise eventually to look beyond that - men are primarily visual in nature when it comes to attraction, and 'contrived' images can alter a man's perception of what to expect from a woman - but once your naked and talking in bed that all goes away - love, communication by touch and voice soon put it in perspective (well in my book thats what happens), where its bad is when you mix this altered perception with men who get off on dispensing violence to women (I mean abusive violence, not consensual), I think these men should be chemically neutered.

In general I prefer amateur/homemade porn. The one thing that really annoys me about it though is the poor "technical quality" of the "production." I'd like to see some decent camera angles, better lighting, and even an "audio track," albeit one that sticks to what was actually filmed rather than one that's ridiculously fake.

I pretty much agree with you on all points, especially when it comes to "professional" porn. The last two things you pointed out though really can ruin an otherwise "good" porno for me. I generally don't like to see penises in general, and even the straight women I know who have watched porn have gone as far as to say that "dicks are utilitarian, but not fun to watch, unlike vaginas and breasts." I can tolerate a few penis-shots, but one too many ruins porn for me, and large dicks ruin pictures and/or videos that would otherwise be perfectly arousing.

Ridiculously large breasts are also outright revolting. One thing that really drives me nuts with freakishly large breasts though is how much worse they are in BBW pornos. Although BBW is admittedly not really my thing, there was one night where I wanted to watch a BBW porno because I was really horny, and a somewhat pudgy female-friend of mine had been extremely flirtatious earlier in the day. No problem, a BBW porno should allow me to "take care of" the issue I was having, right? Wrong. Every BBW porno I could find had 600lbs cows that were passing as "women," complete with breasts that looked like they'd mutated in the reactor pond on "The Simpsons," next to the three-eyed fish. I wanted to see a porno with a "pudgy," but not morbidly obese woman, who was just a little overweight, and had breasts that fit with her body, and I could find no such thing. This outright ruined the entire experience for me. I know BBW is supposed to be overweight, but there's a difference between just overweight and morbidly obese.

What's more, overdoses of cum-tography really kill the mood for me. Again, I can tolerate a very little bit of this, and not very often, when it comes out in the most faked manner possible though, it ruins the whole thing for me. This might be good for someone with a "cum fetish," but it ruins otherwise enjoyable porn for me. I admittedly stick to predominatly so-called "lesbian" porn, because as cheap and fake as it usually is, it's dick-free and cum-free for the most part.

LockedNMessed also hit on some key points for me. However, for porn involving diapers, here are my biggest gripes:

1. Shut up. If you can't come up with interesting dialogue, or a plot that leads to the sex, just don't say anything, especially if you have a thick and screechy accent and are trying to hide it. If you're going to speak and have an accent, keep your normal accent rather than trying to "fake" an American accent. Horribly faked accents ruin porn as much as they ruin actual movies; why people don't get this is beyond me.

2. If you're small enough to fit into a baby diaper, Pull-Ups, Goodnites, or a similar product, wear it! In an "adult baby" scene, it's much more believable when the actors aren't wearing Depends or something similar, it's also cuter, and more fun overall.

3. Show me something I haven't seen before! Seriously, this one really bothers me. Let me see the diaper get drenched, and let me see a nice lady playing with it. Let me see her orgasm with it, but add something new. Maybe do a scene where the woman isn't actually "wearing" the diaper, but is close to it so we can actually see her wetting it. Find creative places to put the camera, and shoot from different angles; make me believe my face is just above or below the woman's vagina, or is part of the diaper, but do something I haven't seen before. Also, show me your other wet diapers; I'm supposed to believe that you, the actor, is an AB/DL and are in a nursery. Show me a diaper pail, show me a diaper pail that's filled with wet diapers, show me someone whose spilling the diapers all over the room and doing kinky things with them, but show me more than one diaper.

4. Stop hiding the fact that the diaper is wet! This bothers me almost as much as menstrual porn that doesn't show any blood, or worse, shows fake blood that looks so fake it can't possibly be real. I want to see wet diapers in my diaper porn. I want to be able to believe what I saw, so when a diaper is dry one second and totally drenched the next, that kind of ruins the suspension of disbelief; actors should actually wet the diapers they're wearing, and if they can't, find better actors.

5. This is just a pet peeve of mind, but there might be other people who share it, so I'll add it to the list. Show me the dirty/wet diapers! Show me a pile of wet diapers, show me a diaper pail that's full of wet Goodnites, and then go a step further. Show me the actor masturbating with her wet diapers, show me her filling them we pee, orgasming on them, and really making a mess with her wet diapers that are in the trash. Then, after the last orgasm scene, maybe have the "Mommy" come in, pick up the diapers, and follow her out to the trash. In fact, a shot that would really make a scene like this kinky to me, and well worth paying for, would be to see all of the wet diapers being loaded into a trash truck and then getting compacted. I'm a diaper lover, I want to see diapers, and I don't just want to see clean ones or ones that are being worn by the actor or actors. Again, do something different!

6. Finally, and this one really ruins what could be a perfectly good porno for me, come up with a plot! The first porno that does this, and does a good job of it, will be the best selling porno to date. I want to see something that goes beyond masturbation and/or two women having sex with each other, and in the case of diapers, I want to see more than a standard wetting. Show me someone who I can believe is a "real" AB/DL. Show me her reluctantly meeting with a female friend whose an AB/DL, show me the two of them in a very candid situation easing into things, and make it believable without being mundane. Show me a dirty little lady who hides her used diapers and needs to throw them all out on trash day. Show me her having sex with them as one "last hurrah" before she throws them out, show me her doing it with an AB/DL friend. If you gave me an hour long porno, and the first ten minutes of it were plot building up to sex, and the last ten minutes (including credits,) were plot after sex, maybe with a final "five-second" orgasm at the very end, (think of how many movies have a scene after the credits,) you'd at least be on track to the classiest porno in existence, and I'd be able to justify owning it because it did something different. This goes for menstrual pornos too, of which there seems to be an incredibly short supply. Show me two women, (yes, this is pretty unrealistic, but it's fun, what makes traditional movies fun is taking an ordinary incident and doing something extraordinary; this is the porno equivalent,) show me them both having their periods, show me them talking about it before, and after sex, and show me some realistic orgasms, with soft moans instead of coarse groans that are so fake they're ridiculous.

I guess my thing is that if I'm going to watch porn, I want to see something different than what I've seen constantly. Granted, some amateurs really do go out of their way to do unique scenes for their viewers and some come close to what I want. But "professional" pornography pretty much fails at anything new. I would love to see a scene involving diapers in the trash from an amateur, because I know there's a better chance of said amateur taking such a risk, however I also know how they'd shoot such a scene. It'd be from an observers stance, and it'd look like a bad student film. Put the camera in the trash can, put it in the bottom of the diaper pail, let the diapers fall on top of it, and learn a thing or two about lighting. In sum, make me believe I'm seeing something that I might not actually be seeing. Although I'd rather stick to proper filmmaking, if I admittedly had enough female talent, lawyers, and time to invest in such a project, not to mention better production equipment, I might even consider taking on such a project myself for those of us who are sick of every porno looking the same. There is no reason that high quality pornography cannot exist other than the fact that no one who has the funding to create it is willing to do so. And I'll be honest, porn probably consumes less than 0.02% of my life tops, and the only reason I'd take on such a project as noted above, is because it would be something different, even if it were pornographic in nature.

I find most porn much more amusing than arousing. Half-baked plots that leave me lost and dialog that just burns the ears. Some homemade/amateur schtuff is just mildly more appealing.
