This is like asking what the weather will be next month. There are just too many variables and people are people. Everyone is different so it depends on the attitude of the professional you see on that day. You will have to gauge the reaction of the individual you see and decide if you wish to continue that situation. This is a professional relationship so if you aren't comfortable, no reason to continue with that provider. Ask for what you want and relate your current feelings.

Next in line for Surgical incontinence!

Congrats on your decision. I apologize for the negative energy all of a sudden. Do what's right for you and enjoy your results. Please do keep us informed. -
This is unnecessary pressure from others trying to tell you how to live your life. I don't agree with this at all. You know what makes you comfortable and what you need in your life and don't allow others to create guilt because of who and how you are. I was nullified and have no guilt or regrets from that. I'm very comfortable and you should be too with your decisions. It seems like you are very in tune with your brain and the things you need. This makes total sense plus you have the support of your wife and that's a great place to be in life. Embrace your happiness and consider what you need to do. If you're able to make an adult decision about your own life, don't let anyone else tell you something is wrong. They won't be the one in diapers, you will and it will be your happiness. Very wise interpretation. Give it some thought and live your life in the place you need to be.

I'm on a similar page with AI because there needs to be more research done but it is full of contradictions, which is typical of AI. I don't really see it giving any medical advice that could be detrimental unless you see consider 2.4L of water intake per day to be excessive. Total fluid volume is just over a gallon and I don't think that's a lot over the course of a day. Many people have an indwelling catheter for long term and it is well documented that it can cause long term continence issues but that's the goal here and not really a medical (safety) issue. Not sure it would happen in 3 months but certainly could. It also depends on the cath size, larger will typically yield faster results. The AI mentions heavy fluid intake "keeping it (bladder) gently but persistently full to destroy control faster" but in reality the catheter will persistently keep the bladder empty and hence cause the atrophy, which is desired. The Trigger Conditioning Guide has no medical (safety) issues either and is actually consistent with hypnotic suggestions or brain reprogramming. The contradiction would be this isn't possible with a catheter but perhaps I misunderstood the timing or order of things. It would be a very positive retraining if done on its own. Our brains respond to habit and conditioning and this is simply changing the events and triggering a different response. Consistency is the key and staying hydrated is always considered a good thing. Interesting use of AI but have to understand the limitations of course.

I just ordered and received my first Malecot catheter with the 4 wing design. I ordered a 24fr and a 28fr and just my luck, the 28 came first. It does seem it would be ok once a solid device is inserted and pushed slightly but I haven't tried yet because I didn't want to open the package until I'm ready. I'm thinking the lower profile design isn't going to irritate the bladder wall and cause spasms like the tip of a Foley does. I can let everyone know when I get the 24 and give it a try. I went with larger sizes so I could use something inside to perform the insertion and possible extrication.

It was around $25K when I talked to Dr A about mine. Since I'm already nullified, I don't need any reductions, haha. But that seems to be a much more palatable cost and hopefully will go even lower as the procedure is perfected or more requested. Just makes me wonder if it's time to give up all control. I just can't seem to get away from it and the thought keeps coming back all the time.

Long term / Permanent IDC / Foley user

You can ask your doctor about a med to reduce the bladder spasms. They totally suck as you are aware. I've used Trospium before and it does reduce/eliminate the spasms but does have a dry mouth side effect that can be annoying at times. It seems to come and go, perhaps based on hydration. Hope you're able to find a solution. -
I would tend to agree. The truth is some get UTI's way more often than others and it's a lot about our body chemistry. I've done some crazy things with caths over the years and rarely get a UTI. I say others can get a UTI just thinking about it (not really but it means they are very susceptible.) I've had nullification surgery with a reroute and now my urethra is open 24/7. I have bacteria in my urine at times without having a UTI and it's just because my body has adapted to having that bacteria and accepts certain levels now. My doctor monitors my labs and says this is my new normal. Of course I'm very careful about not introducing known bad substances to my open urethra. Bottom line, just depends how your body reacts to certain things. Keep an eye on things and stay safe.

I'm glad you had an overall positive experience. It is true there's nothing to be ashamed of about being incontinent. I'm glad they were able to get the sample and you didn't have any issues.

Is incontinence surgery part of your pursuit of happiness?
keyman419 replied to cathdiap's topic in Incontinent-Desires
I can see some situations that would be more challenging with diaper dependence but for the most part, most things are still very doable. I also recognize that wearing diapers at times is more convenient as well. Not having to potty is a big step of not taking time away from other things. I've had a medical stent placed for a month and the freedom of dribbling 24/7 was euphoric while in. I made a spur of the moment decision to remove it and instantly regretted it. I have considered placing it again. I also have considered surgery and paid for a consult with Dr A about having it done. It's just a matter of scheduling now and making the commitment to proceed. Since I've had nullification surgery and having a reroute, wearing a diaper is very comfortable and easy to deal with since there's no hose to require proper positioning at all times. The pee comes out right between my legs now. The nullification is a life long, to the grave, decision as well and one I have no regrets with. Incontinence will have more lifestyle changes to deal with but I'm still working through that in my brain and my lifestyle. The idea of being in diapers is very comforting. I've talked to several privately who have had it done and the appeal is very high. When I proceed, the goal will be to dribble with no ability to control or stop the flow. The diaper fills very slowly and evenly as I've learned in the past. I'm excited about the possibility to get incontinence surgery and have the body function on its own with no control in that area. I know some find that controversial but everyone is different and should be allowed to pursue their own ideals. -
If needed, you can simply cut the cath tube going to the balloon. The pressure of the water in the balloon will cause it to exit and the cath will come right out. The other ideas work as well. I've had a stent in and I will say waking up soaked is quite the mind fuck but yeah, just change and go back to sleep. It's good that you did that. Keep up the great work. I think the longer you go, the more you will like it. I'm also working on my own incontinence now as well and dribbling with zero control is quite amazing. An 11/10 for sure. Keep it up.

Very well said @JunkyardDog1 Way too scared of family issues as well as having enough money to actually get stocked as needed @Hannah YMS has figured this poster out as well. Being sceptical is an ongoing thing with the OP. Here we are again dealing with this "I'm 24/7" and "I have not worn diapers for awhile". This just keeps going back and forth and it's just a cry for attention. There hasn't been any progress in several years. I tried to help a while back it was met with constant excuses and silence when it wasn't happening. I got tired of it.

This is exactly what I was referring to. The smaller cath 'banging around' in there can be more uncomfortable. A 14-16 is standard for a male. Some choose to go larger to get some stretching but that's a personal preference. I'm glad you found the 14 more comfortable. Hopefully you'll be able to go longer term to meet your needs. I've found once I'm through the first 24-36 hours, I barely feel the cath anymore and can go long term with minimal discomfort.

The entire concept of having zero control and allowing your body to release that urine is in fact intoxicating for sure. Realizing there's nothing you need to do and just allow your body to function is a very freeing feeling. I was that way for the month I had the stent installed but I had no sensations of the stent, just dribbling into my diaper 24/7. I would wake up soaked in the morning and sometimes overflowing with no ability to change it. Keep up the great work. A 12fr is a pretty small cath for a male. Sometimes the smaller ones are less comfortable because of the movement in your urethra. Give a 14 or a 16 a try sometime when you are ready and you may find a different sensation from those. Keep us informed and congrats for being in the cath club. Next time will be a full week or more and you'll trust and enjoy your diapers more.

24/7 for one year! Update on my journey
keyman419 replied to Princeoftoddlers's topic in Incontinent-Desires
Congrats on your progress. Things seem to be going great and you are achieving what you've needed for a long time. I too am noticing the muscles get harder to hold closed and even if I can, within a few seconds, things just open up again and I start to pee. Certainly on the incontinent spectrum now and may not ever return. Keep up the great work and keep us informed. It's so encouraging to hear your progress and how happy you are.
