  1. Regularly until I was 3. My mom put a diaper on me sometime after that. I'm pretty sure I was 4. I'd had a few accidents and I guess she just thought it was worth some extra precaution. No Pull-Ups back then, so it was the only option. It was just for part of the day until I went to bed. I didn't use it. Didn't get changed. And was never put back in diapers again.
  2. Started out in cloth and then my parents switched to Pampers once they got good/cheap/common enough for regular use at the end of the 70s.
  3. I wrote a story that might fit what you're looking for. Diapers aren't exactly normal, but circumstances make it something everybody sees as normal. Also has a Sci-Fi theme which you may be interested in. It's called The Error. It's on these forums here:
  4. Yes, I remember this and somehow returning to that state is a big fantasy for me.
  5. I've found two-thousand words to be a decent chapter length. More importantly, I'd like the reader to be able to say "This is the chapter where X happens." Feels a little more satisfying to read something that's some sort of cohesive whole rather than just an arbitrary snippet of a larger story. Sometimes that means a shorter chapter, sometimes that means a longer one.
  6. I feel like posting it here kind of commits me to continuing it, which I'm not really prepared to do. It's on other websites though.
  7. There's one I started called The Potion. About an 18 year-Old who mistakes an age regression potion his mother had been developing for an alcoholic drink. The regression effects are sort of all over the place so he's ends up in a 7 year-old body but it has more dramatic effects on his continence and emotional regulation. Don't bother looking for it, it's gone. The laptop I wrote it on bit the dust in spectacular fashion and I only ever posted it to one long-gone forum. I do regular back ups now.
  8. This is a short-short story I wrote a while back. I think it's almost completely disappeared from the Internet. So here it is again. Karen quietly open the nursery door and paused at the threshold. Like so many mornings before her son was still sleeping soundly in his crib, his teddy bear nestled tightly but gently in the crook of his arm. The mobile above him whirred silently as crossed the room. She slowly lowered the side and lifted the boy into the cradle of her arms. He stirred just long enough to secure his hold on Mr. Bear. “Good morning baby” she cooed and rocked him for a moment before setting him down on the changing table. Tommy opened his pale blue eyes and beamed up at her while she unsnapped his sleeper. “Good morning mommy.” Karen collected the necessary diapering supplies from beneath the changing table. “Did you have any good dreams?” He rubbed the sleep from his eye and nodded “Uh-huh, I dreamed we went to the zoo and saw lions, and birds, and a kangaroo...” She mentally added a few packages of Pampers to the day's shopping list. Most kids his size had started school so it was lucky they still fit him so well. Real baby diapers were a small detail but important nonetheless in maintaining equilibrium. “You must have seen a lot of fish too” she gently teased while untapeing his sodden diaper. He giggled and blushed for a moment before quickly changing topics “Can we go to the ice-cream store today?” Karen lifted him up enough to powder his bottom “It's been a long time since we've done that. If you're good we'll go.” Tommy grinned and cheered “I'm gonna get chocolate chip.” She laughed as she fasten a fresh diaper into place. “You have to have breakfast first silly bunny” She lifted him to her hip and took him downstairs to the kitchen still clutching his bear. She secured him in his highchair and tussled his curly blonde hair. He talked eagerly of his dream and the proposed trip for ice-cream while his mother puttered around the kitchen preparing a bowl of oatmeal. It was no longer practical to feed him at every meal but breakfast afforded an opportunity to maintain the spell. She sat down beside him and lifted a spoonful of oatmeal to his mouth. He ate happily, while he chatted with his mommy. “Can we go to the zoo today too?” Karen laughed and scraped the last of the oatmeal from the bowl “No honey, I don't think we'll have time for that today. You still want ice-cream don't you.” Tommy nodded excitedly. She wiped his face clean with a dish towel “Then maybe we should save the zoo for some other time.” “OK, I guess we can do that instead” he agreed while she sat his down on his own feet. “That's good boy” she playfully swatted his bottom “Now go watch cartoons while mommy gets ready.” He padded into the living room and turned on the TV, flipping through several blocked channels before finding his favorite show, Zeke the Singing Hamster. He'd seen those blocked channels long ago but could remember little of them. He could recall that it upset mommy, and nearly reversed her magic. It was from incidents like this that she had slowly learned how to keep him. He'd grown bigger but now the routine was perfected. He stretched out on the floor his his chin in his hands aimlessly waving his feet in the air behind him. As his mother came into the room a commercial caught his attention. “Mommy, how come I can't wear those” he said pointing to the Pull-Ups ad. “Now sweety, we've talked about this” She lifted him and sat down with him in her lap. “You know that would make you bigger, so big you'd big a real big boy. And if that happened you'd have to go away to school all day with no mommy or Mr. Bear.” “I couldn't even take Mr. Bear with me?” He asked wide eyed. She shook her head “Big boys don't get have those things any more.” “And you couldn't come either?” “No, big boys have to do all sorts of things all on their own. I'd have to stay home and start to become an old lady.” “Then how come all those other kids want to be big?” “I don't know baby” she said chucking him under his chin. “Now why don't we go get you ready for the day.” She felt guilty sometimes for playing on his emotions. But she knew what she'd seen in the oracle and was worth saving her boy from that fate. She dressed him in a pair of overalls with a Zeke the Hamster shirt underneath. The shirt was new, bought after Tommy decided Zeke was the best show in the world. Karen paused for a moment and tried to remember how long ago she'd bought the overalls. “It's really a good thing you know how to keep me from getting too big” “Yes it is. But you can help me a lot by being a good little boy.” “You mean holding your hand and staying in my stroller and stuff?” She knelt down to tie his shoes and looked him lovingly in the eyes “Exactly, always do what mommy says.” Tommy smiled and hugged her tightly “I love you mommy.” She lifted him into a hug “I love you too baby.” She carried him out to the car and buckled him into his car seat before putting Mr. Bear safely in his lap. And they drove away for day out together and some ice-cream. The End
  9. It probably depends on the person. In most cases, I would think that the diapers are just to deal with toileting issues and, if anything, are a drag on their emotional well-being. Finding pleasure and/or comfort in diapers is not a universal thing. Like there's a reason we all have to gather in these small communities to talk about it. It's not something most people experience.
  10. I see a lot of hearsay and click-bait articles, but not a lot of solid data that the average toilet-training age has shifted more than a year or so since disposables became the norm. A few brands have introduced larger sizes but anything larger than size 6 is still markedly less commonly available. If anything I suspect the use case for some products has shifted a bit. I certainly remember a few kids in the early grades who had very regular accidents. Maybe those kids just wear Pull-Ups these days and get counted among those "going to school in diapers."
  11. Thank you. Yeah, I knew that would stick out. When I wrote the story I just sort of wrote it chapter-by-chapter without really thinking ahead a whole lot. When I got to the end of chapter 5 introducing physical regression just sounded like a good idea so I stuck in the bit about a big surprise coming. Kind of felt like I had to make good on it, and I thought I could put my own spin on it. So I went ahead and completed it more or less the way I had intended, to the extent that I intended anything.
  12. Part 9 Half awake on a cold winter morning the huge warm crib blanket I was wrapped in was a welcome comfort. With my eyes still closed I cuddled my teddy, one arm barely making it around him. My other hand found my bottle. I'd wondered if it was empty, but it was so much larger than I remembered. I heard gentle, careful footsteps and an ecstatic gasp. I opened my eyes and saw Mommy towering above my crib beaming down at me. “Merry Christmas baby,” she said “Our wish came true.” The more my mind began to wake the more it felt like a dream. She lifted me out of the crib and quickly got me out of the PJs that had pooled around me. My diaper simply fell away. I looked down at my body, soft and small and pudgy. She held me close and laughed. “I knew it, baby,” she said holding me close “I knew you'd wish for this too.” “Mommy,” I asked hearing a small voice coming from my own mouth “What happened?” “Magic, baby,” she said squeezing me tight. “But that's impossible,” I sputtered. “But it happened,” she said. Amidst my confusion, something began to dawn on me “Did you... and Aunt Linda... From the beginning?” She shifted me around so she could look me in the eyes “It only worked because deep down, we both wanted it to. We just needed a little help to finish the job.” I just looked at her in utter disbelief. She laughed “Your mommy knows more than you thought, doesn't she?” “How long will I be this way?” “As long as we want,” she said patting my naked bottom and rocking me slightly “You're happy right?” I looked out the window. Snow fell lightly on a world that had grown so much bigger and more wondrous. I felt Mommy's warm embrace. I grinned back at her “Very happy, mommy.” “Me too, baby,” she said “More than you can ever know.” “I told you it would work,” Aunt Linda said from the doorway “He's just adorable.” “Yes, he is,” Mommy said “Thanks for all your help.” “Can I hold him for just a bit,” Aunt Linda asked. Mommy set me down “Go ahead, sweetheart. Go see your auntie.” I swayed unsteadily on my tiny legs. I was now in the body of a young toddler. I looked up, the room towered above and stretched out all around me. It may have been frightening if weren't for Mommy's encouraging smile. Aunt Linda knelt down and beckoned me to her. I took a tentative step forward. I could sense a lack of coordination, but my confidence grew as I toddled forward. With a bit of practice, this huge new world would open up to me. I couldn't help it, a little happy giggle welled up from within me as I scampered unsteadily into her waiting arms. “There we go,” she said as she scooped me up “Such a good baby.” She looked at Mommy. “What do you think about 14 months?” “Sounds about right,” she replied “We'll need to switch diaper sizes for sure.” Aunt Linda nodded. “Sarah,” she called out “Could you get a size 4 diaper please?” Sarah emerged from the hallway and gasped. “It worked,” she exclaimed. “Of course it did,” Aunt Linda replied “Now we need to get him in a diaper that fits.” “And something to wear,” Mommy said as she opened the wardrobe.” Sarah went downstairs and returned with a diaper. Aunt Linda took it and handed it, and me, back to Mommy. “Let's get you ready,” she said as she laid me down on the changing table. Without another word, she took me by the ankles and lifted my bottom quickly dusting me with a layer of baby powder before sliding the new diaper under me and setting me down. “Even easier now,” she laughed as she taped the diaper snugly closed. Then, with little effort, she had me in a pair of footed PJs decorated with little bunnies. “Feeling cozy,” she asked. I just nodded. “Ready to see what else Santa brought,” she asked. I'd almost forgotten there were presents. “Yes, Mommy,” I answered excitedly. She picked me up “Well then,” she said giving me a little bounce 'Let's go.” As we came down the stairs I could see that the collection of packages under the tree had grown into an overflowing avalanche of presents. Mommy sat me down near the tree. I stared up at the tower of shiny ornaments and twinkling lights. It wasn't just that I was smaller. My feelings were bigger, and harder to contain. I let out a giggle of delight at the sight. “I think there's something special here for you,” she said pushing a package wrapped in red paper towards me. “Go ahead and open it.” I took a clumsy grip on one corner with my pudgy hands and started tearing away the paper, barely caring to be neat as the excitement of the day overwhelmed me. Underneath was my own toy farm set. I looked up at Mommy and smiled “Did Santa really bring all this?” “Yes, baby. He did.” It was a lot to take in. We continued opening presents. I had enough toys to keep a toddler happy for a long time. I got toy trucks and blocks and even a tricycle. The last gift was a little snowsuit with matching hat and mittens. “Ready to play in the snow,” Mommy asked. A few minutes later I was dressed for morning in the snow. “What would you like to do,” Mommy asked as she led me into the front yard. “Can we make a snowman,” I asked. “Of course,” she said “You can start making the bottom. I'll get something for his arms.” I started rolling a ball of snow to make the base of our creation. In a few moments, it was almost as big as me. I struggled to move it at all. “Let me help you with that,” she said as she returned with a pair of sticks. She helped me roll it into a clear part of the yard. Together we stacked three balls of snow, I'd roll them as big as I could and she'd lift them into place. We made a face with a few rocks we found around the yard and at last we had our snowman. “So what should we do now,” Mommy asked as we admired our creation. I couldn't help myself, a fit of mischievousness took over. I tossed a small snowball toward her and it landed softly on her shoulder. “Oh you little,” she said in mock outrage “Wait til I get a hold of you.” I giggled and took off running down the hill. My legs could only carry me so fast in the snow and Mommy let me have a healthy head start as she trotted along behind me. I crouched behind a bush and pretended to hide. “Oh no, where did he go,” Mommy said feigned surprise. Another fit of giggles overcame me. “Maybe he's over here,” she said leaning over the bush. “Got you,” she said gently lofting a snowball toward me. I collapsed in laughter and she scooped me up. “Now you're gonna get it,” she said lifting me above her head. I was nearly shrieking with laughter now I felt lighter than air. She let me drop a short distance and caught me. I was in joyful hysterics. She sat me down again and trotted back up the hill. I pursued as best I could, We chased each other back and forth. Until I was completely out of breath. She picked me up and hugged me tight. “The snow is picking up again, are you ready to go inside?” “Uh-huh,” I replied simply through half-panted giggles. She nodded and started carrying me toward the house 'It's probably time for a change anyway,” she said patting my bottom. Inside Aunt Linda was busy getting the fireplace going. “You two looked like you were having fun,” she said “I thought you might want to warm up by the fire.” “That sounds lovely,” Mommy said as took off my coat and unwound my scarf. “What do you think, baby?” I nodded “That sounds nice,” I said with a yawn. “Somebody's all tuckered out after all that playing,” Mommy said “Maybe some nice warm PJs too?” I just nodded and she picked me up and carried me upstairs to the nursery. She laid me down on the changing table and stripped me of my shirt and pants. “I hope we can have more days like today,” she said as she took my ankles in one hand and lifted my rear. “Me too, Mommy,” I said while she lowered me down onto a fresh diaper and taped it snugly around me. “I love being with you.” “I love being with you too,” she said as began to dress me in a pair of fuzzy PJs. She picked me up and hugged me. “I just... love you.” I hugged her back “I love you too.” She carried me downstairs where the fire lit the living room in a flickering light. She sat down in a rocking chair and held me close. I nestled myself cozily against her. She gave me a kiss on the cheek. “Let's just sit here for a little bit,” she said as she began to rock. I yawned again, the tiredness truly setting in. “Just rest baby,” Mommy will be here. I didn't say another word. I didn't need to. I closed my eyes and drifted off. I woke up still in her arms. I heard her humming a soft lullaby and the crackling of the fire. Outside a sheet of snow fell past the window. Inside I was cradled in a warm embrace. I didn't know how long I'd been there. I didn't know how long all of this would last. It didn't matter. What mattered was here. What mattered was now, a moment of love that stretched in all directions. The End
  13. Part 8 Mommy sat a plate of food on my highchair tray and tied a bib around my neck. I looked down at it and could make out the words “Mommy's baby” spelled out with diaper pins, rattle, bottles, and other babyish things. “It's way too late to deny,” she said as she ruffled my hair and sat down in the chair beside me. I just giggled. It was true. Being near her, being cuddled by her, just having her attention felt wonderful. I remember feeling this way when I was younger, but the last few days had really brought it back. “We've decided to go to that Christmas festival you mentioned,” Mommy said as we chatted. “Oh good,” Aunt Linda replied. “You'll have a great time,” she turned to me “And hear Santa is going to be there. Maybe you'll get a chance to tell him what you want this time.” I blushed as I remembered the incident at the mall “You don't have to pretend, Aunt Linda,” I said “I know all about Santa.” The three of them smiled at each other. “You mean you know he's going to bring you lots of presents,” Mommy said prompting laughs from the others. I just rolled my eyes. As we finished dinner Mommy quickly took a towel and wiped my face clean before letting me out of my highchair. “How about a little Christmas movie before bedtime,” Mommy asked. “Sure,” I said “What do you want to watch?” “I know just the thing,” she replied. And so we all sat down to watch Miracle on 34th Street. I didn't care much for old movies, it felt nice just to sit in Mommy's lap. It was just a bit awkward, but we'd been getting some practice and the comfy old chair was accommodating enough for the both of us. I sat with my head on her shoulder, just enjoying the moment. I yawned contentedly as the credits rolled. “Think you can stay awake long enough for a bath,” she asked. I just nodded and after a round of good-nights from Aunt Linda and Sara she led me up to the bathroom. She turned on the spigot and turned to me. “Are you ready for Christmas,” she said as she pulled the bunny sweater over my head. “I guess,” I said as she continued to help me out of my clothes. “There's so much going on I really haven't thought about it.” She coaxed me into the tub with a playful swat on the bum. “You haven't even thought about what you want?” “Well, it's all kind of changed now, I think, I answered as I sat down in the warm water. “Well I already got something I've been wanting for a long time,” she said as she soaped up a washcloth and started to scrub my back. “Yeah, I think I really wanted this too,” I said “I always tried to act grown-up, but it never really felt right, you know?” “It never felt right to me either. One day I saw a little baby just sleeping in his stroller and he looked just like you did. It just made me miss those days, and regret that they were a bit rushed,” she said as she continued to bathe me. “Let's not rush this time, Mommy,” I said. “I promise I won't,” she said while holding out a big fluffy white towel. She dried me off and wrapped me in it before leading me into the nursery. She began to hum a lullaby while she got me into my nighttime diaper and PJs. My eyes were half closed by the time she helped me into my crib. “Good night, baby boy,” she said as she set the teddy bear I'd gotten beside me and gave me a bottle. I held the bear to my chest and took the bottle “Good night, mommy.” She turned out the lights and quietly left the room, leaving the door open just a crack. I knew she'd be checking on me sometime in the middle of the night. I closed my eyes and nursed the bottle. This was something I wouldn't dream of rushing again. Later the next morning I was playing with my toys on the living room floor. “Thanks for letting me play with these toys Aunt Linda,” I said as she sat down to take a break before getting lunch ready. She chuckled “They here just for little boys and girls like you. I'm glad you like them.” I paused and looked at her curiously “You sort of knew I was kind of little didn't you.” She smiled “I've been around children all my life, I have a sense for these things. But your mommy knew too. I think that's part of the reason she came here.” “You mean because you have a lot of stuff for little kids,” I asked. “Well that's certainly a big part of it,” she replied. She took a closer look at what I was doing and changed subjects “You really like that farm set, don't you?” I blushed slightly at my childish interest being noticed again. “It's just kind of fun to play pretend again, you know,” I stammered. “There's no need to be embarrassed around your old aunt,” she smiled “Just play with the things you like.” “I know,” I said “I just didn't think I'd like this stuff so much. But it's just fun to kind of let go, you know?” She nodded “Yes, sometimes I catch one of the older kids I babysit playing with some of these toys. They try to deny it, say they were just looking at it or something, but I know better.” “I guess I'm lucky I don't have to worry about acting big anymore,” I said. “You're lucky to have a very good mommy. And I think she's lucky too,” she grinned and patted my head. With that, the oven dinged and she left to finish our lunch. After lunch, I spent a cozy afternoon watching cartoons and playing with mommy. Before long she decided it was time to visit the Christmas festival. A deep chill had set in, and snow seemed to be coming so she put a knit hat on my head and wrapped me a light blue scarf. “Do I really need to wear those,” I said as she got out a pair of mittens “That will make it kind of hard to hold things.” “These are going to keep you much warmer,” she said “Just let Mommy look after you.” I relented and she slid the mittens on. “There,” she said zipping up my coat “all set for a little walk.” She picked up the diaper bag, took my mittened hand, and called out to Aunt Linda “We'll just be out for a bit, we'll be back before dinner.” It had become truly cold now and clouds that had rolled in seemed to promise snow. A cozy smell of lit fireplaces was in the air. “Aunt Linda says they're having a Christmas carnival in the park,” Mommy said as we turned onto the sidewalk. I'd almost forgotten how close Christmas was, only a day away now. Mommy hadn't held my hand on a walk like this in some time. I asked her to stop after I decided I'd be teased if any of my friends had seen me. But she'd helped me let go of all that. My hand was still smaller than hers, and it just felt nice to have it wrapped in her protective grasp. I wondered what it would be like if she could just hold me in her arms as we walked, but I knew I was too big for that. The park was only a few blocks away. And as we neared it I could already make out the twinkling lights and hear festive music. As we approached the entrance to the park I could see rows of booths selling gifts and treats along with rides and games. Something about feeling small and being with mommy made everything feel new. I suppose I had a look of wonder on my face. Mommy patted my head “Pretty neat huh?” I looked up at her and smiled “I didn't even know this was going on.” “What do you want to do first? Maybe get some hot cocoa?” She pointed towards a small booth a short distance away. “That sounds really good,” I said. Mommy led me over to the booth and ordered two cups. The vendor spotted the mittens on my hands and turned to Mommy. “Sippy cup,” He asked her. She looked at me and smiled “Yes, I think that would be a good idea.” I watched as he ladled hot cocoa into one adult cup and one colorful disposable sippy cup. I took it and thanked him with maybe a bit of bashfulness at being singled out for the toddlerish thing. Still, I didn't mind. If anything I thought it would be nice if that sort of treatment came more naturally. Nearby was a small set of benches arrayed in front of a stage. A sign off to the side advertised a puppet show which was to start in a few minutes. “I bet we can still get tickets,” Mommy said. Some part of me was still reluctant but I saw her smile I knew I wanted to do it. Mommy bought two tickets and we went to find a seat. Most of the benches were already full, and there was only really room for one of us. “Oh no you don't,” Mommy said as she took a seat and patted her lap 'those seats are for big boys.” Awkwardly, I climbed up and sat in her lap while she wrapped her arms around me. The bench wasn't quite like a cozy chair at Aunt Linda's house and it was a moment for us to settle on a comfortable arrangement, but after a few moments, I was comfortably sitting in her lap and ready for the show to start. I looked around at the toddlers and preschoolers naturally sitting so comfortably in their parents' arms. I loved being this close to Mommy, and I wondered what it would be like for it to be that much easier, to be taken up completely in her embrace. The puppet show was clearly for very small children, but I enjoyed it all the same. The show ended with a song. As the parents in the audience began swaying around with their little ones to the music I was caught off guard a bit when mommy started doing the same. This made our seating situation even more awkward and we laughed as I tumbled a bit out of her lap. It was a fun moment but I found myself wishing again that we could have made it work. After the show, we walked down the path a bit. Things were starting to wrap up as booths closed and people hurried back to have their Christmas Eve dinners. In the middle of everything, Santa was seeing his last visitors. “One last chance,” Mommy said. I hesitated but somehow it just seemed right. As the last child hopped off his lap Mommy walked me up to his big red chair. As we got closer I could tell that this Santa was different than the one at the mall. His eyes twinkled at me. It was almost like he'd been expecting me. The helper elf helped me up into his lap. “So what do you want, little boy,” he asked in a gentle baritone. “I'm not really sure,” I said. “Hmmmm,” he stroked his beard “Well I can let you in a little bit of secret Santa magic.” He leaned in closer to me and said “If you make a wish, any wish at all, and your mommy makes the same wish, it will come true.” I looked at him skeptically “I'm not sure... I...” “Oh let's just try baby, I think I already have one,” Mommy encouraged. “All you have to do is close your eyes and make a wish,” he encouraged “even if it seems impossible. But you have to keep a secret.” Going down the pathway I saw a toddler asleep in his mother's arms. If I had one wish I knew what it was. I closed my eyes and made a wish. I opened my eyes to his friendly smile “Any wish at all,” he repeated. The helper elf quickly snapped a picture. “Merry Christmas,” Santa said before setting me back down. Mommy took my hand again and we started on our way back home. Later she was tucking me into my crib. “What did you wish for,” I asked. “You heard Santa. You have to keep it a secret,” She replied. “Come on,” I said “It's all just make-believe.” “Baby,” she said “It's Christmas, just try OK?” I rolled my eyes, but I relented “OK, I'll try.” We said our goodnights, she turned out the light and left me resting snuggly in my crib. I closed my eyes I thought about how nice it would be if wishes like that really could come true. Some time in the middle of the night I could have sworn I heard sleigh bells.
  14. Working on it. Hope to have it out this week.
  15. Maybe. I've tried continuing it and never really gotten anywhere. It never had much of a plot, just a meandering fantasy honestly. I can't really write that way anymore. Anyway here is the next chapter of this story: Part 7 "Patty,” Aunt Linda exclaimed to the plumpish woman who answered the door “Thank you so much for inviting us.” “My pleasure Linda,” the woman replied. She looked down at me “And this must be Jason.” She leaned over to address me “Don't you look handsome in your little bunny sweater.” I squirmed slightly but Mommy gave my hand another reassuring squeeze. I looked at her and saw her beaming proudly at me. “Thank you,” she said as she smoothed my hair “he picked it out all by himself.” The woman chuckled as she motioned us inside “Well come on in,” she said, “it's getting chilly out there.” She led us down the hallway and into a cozily furnished living room. “I put out some old toys for Jason so he has something to do while we yak,” she motioned towards a pile of brightly colored playthings in one corner of the room. “That's very kind of you,” my mother said letting go of my hand “Can you say thank you to Mrs. Powell?” “Thank you,” I murmured while I surveyed what had been set out for me. One item stood out. “Your mommy said you liked your farm set while we were talking on the phone,” Mrs. Powell explained, “so I got out the one my son used to play with a long time ago.” I sat down on the floor next to the toys and started to poke through them. While Mrs. Powell went into the kitchen Mommy took a bottle from the diaper bag. “Just a little juice in case you get thirsty,” she said as she sat it down beside me. As continued to tentatively go over the pile of toys Mrs. Powell returned with coffee for the four of them. I looked back at Mommy as she sat back with her coffee chatting and then to the bottle she'd left me with. Everybody was so relaxed and natural and I began to feel relaxed and natural as well. I took my bottle and drank from it as I contemplated the toy farm in front of me. In a few minutes, I was back to where I was that morning, playing out a little story and taking comfort in being watched over by people who cared about me. Sometime after becoming absorbed in playing, I felt my diaper being checked. “I saw you finish that bottle and I knew you'd be soaked,” Mommy said as she reached into the diaper bag. My cheeks burned. “Yeah, I guess I should have told you.” “Oh sweety, that's not something you should worry about,” she took a changing mat from the bag “You were too busy playing.” She laid out the mat nearby and retrieved some baby powder and wipes. I quickly looked back at the three women who were seated nearby. “Just lie back baby,” she said sweetly as I sat motionless. “We've all seen little boys getting changed.” Suddenly I felt silly for all my reluctance. This seemed like the way things were meant to be, and nobody but me had any qualms about it. I settled onto the mat. “Good boy,” Mommy cooed as she unbuttoned my pants “We'll have you all clean and dry in no time.” She quickly unfastened the tapes and pulled the diaper away. “Diapers today are so much more absorbent than they were when mine were little,” Mrs Powell opined. “Lucky for your carpet I think,” Mommy laughed as she rolled up the sodden diaper and stuck it in a plastic bag. She smiled at me. “Somebody liked their juice, didn't they” she said as she gave my tummy a tickle. She didn't bother to wait for a response before taking a wipe. “Lift up honey,” she requested. I complied she began to gently clean me up. “It is nice not to worry so much about diaper rash. This little guy has always had such sensitive skin, he'd be all red already if these weren't so good.” I was already blushing but now my cheeks were burning. She sprinkled a generous helping of baby powder onto my bottom. “Still needs a little of this to keep him truly dry though,” she said as she rubbed it into my skin. She pulled a fresh diaper from the bag and unfolded it. “Those designs are just adorable,” Mrs Powell exclaimed. “What brand are you using?” “Pampers,” Aunt Linda answered. “That was Sarah's idea.” “We had some extra in the nursery. Just his size, and dependable like you said.” Sarah added. Mommy slid the diaper under me and fastened it snugly in place. “Want to come sit with us,” she asked as she pulled up my pants and snapped them up. “Sure,” I shrugged as she helped me to my feet. I followed her over to the couch and sat down beside her. “Not like that silly boy,” she said and pulled me onto her lap. “That's better,” she said as she wrapped her arms around me. Mrs. Powell smiled “Nothing like a cuddle with a freshly changed little one is there?” Mommy hugged me tighter “I think we both feel very lucky, don't we?” “Yes Mommy,” I said bashfully, prompting delighted awwws from the four women. “I almost forgot something,” Mommy said reaching into a pocket of the diaper bag. She took out a pacifier and held it to my lips. “Here you go baby,” she cooed. I took the pacifier and smiled as I began to nurse. “And maybe something to do while we talk?” she said pulling a large pop-up book from the bag as well. I inspected the cover for a moment “Johnny's Christmas Wish” read the title above an intricately detailed picture of a small town. It was definitely a book for small children but I was immediately drawn to it. I smiled at her from around my pacifier. “Thanks, mommy,” I said. “You're welcome sweety,” she said “feeling all nice and cozy?” I simply nodded. She kissed my cheek. “Good,” she said before returning her attention to Aunt Linda. “What were you saying? Something about investing?” The conversation trailed off into some adult discussion that meant little to me. I rested my head on Mommy's shoulder and enjoyed my pacifier as I paged through the book, simply taking in the illustrations. I could scarcely remember why I'd been worried that morning. Time slipped by while I turned the pages and soon I felt a gentle pat on my back. “Ready to go,” Mommy asked. I looked up to see the adults already getting up and saying their goodbyes. “Oh yeah, I guess,” I replied surprised that I'd been so absorbed. She quickly checked my diaper before letting me down. “Dry for now. Let's get you in your coat.” “Just one last thing,” Mrs Powell announced before turning to me. “When your aunt told me you were coming I just had to get you a little Christmas present,” She said before reaching into a shopping bag and producing a a little brown teddy bear. I couldn't help but smile. “Thank you,” I said, taking the bear and holding him to my chest. “You're welcome dear,” she smiled back and patted my head. “So cute, and so polite. You're all welcome back anytime,” she said to Mommy. “Thank you so much for having us,” Mommy said as she helped me into my coat. I think we all had a great time.” I trotted along beside her back to the car, one hand in hers. The other holding my new teddy bear. I glanced up at her and saw her smiling proudly down at me. She helped me into my car seat, strapped me in, and gave me a little bop on the nose. “Ready to go home, baby boy?” I simply nodded and settled into the seat with my teddy in my lap. Back at Aunt Linda's house everybody began to settle back into their daily routines. Mommy brought some toys down to the living room and turned on some cartoons for me. I began to aimlessly put some blocks together while I watched. After a time mommy sat down next to me. “What are you making?” She asked pointing to the glob of bricks I'd pieced together. “Nothing really,” I shrugged. “You remember what you used to like to do,” she asked smiling and giving me a quick tickle on the ribs. I felt a tinge of embarrassment as I remembered my enthusiasm for the game I used to play with her when I was small. “Mommy,” I moaned She laughed “You used to love it when we each took turns putting a brick down and then just see what we made. We had lots of fun didn't we?” “Yeah, I said bashfully “I really liked it, but then I thought you were just doing it cause I asked all the time.” “Oh no sweety,” She putting an arm around me “I had a great time. I miss it. Wanna give it a try?” “If you really want to then that sounds like fun,” I said I pushed the pile of blocks in between us. I took two bricks and put them together. Mommy thought for a second and added her own. “Thanks for being such a good boy today,” she said “It's such a pleasure to share my sweet little baby with the world.” I rolled my eyes, but I loved hearing her say that. “Mrs. Powell was really nice,” I said snapping another brick into place “I thought she she might think this was all... weird or something.” “It's not weird at all baby,” she replied taking her own turn“You're so cute like this, I don't think anybody would ever disagree.” I smiled and gave her a hug “Thanks, mommy.” We continued chatting and building. After a while, we'd built a small house. “We make a good team don't we,” Mommy said as she ruffled my hair. I took a moment to admire our creation “Yeah, that was fun,” I replied “I'm glad you thought of it.” A second later a Pampers ad began to play on the television. Scenes of babies in diapers happily playing with their parents went by while the virtues of the diaper were extolled. “That reminds me of somebody I know,” Mommy said as she put an arm around me I blushed and squirmed. The ad ended with an invitation to follow Pampers on social media. I looked up at her “Mommy, you wouldn't.” She grinned “Maybe I already did.” I gasped “But people can see that.” “It's not like it's much of a secret, baby boy,” she said patting the bulge in my pants. I blushed “I guess you're sort of right.” “Of course I am,” she said. She gave my bottom another pat, paused for a moment, and checked my diaper. Without a word, she took a diaper from the stash near the couch and gently pushed me onto my back. “I hear there's a Christmas festival in the park down the street,” she said as she undid my pants and slid them down “Maybe we could go tomorrow for Christmas Eve.” “Sure, that might be fun,” I said as she removed the sodden thing and set it aside. She gave me a quick dusting of powder and unfolded the fresh diaper. “Good, sounds like a plan,” she said as lifted up my bottom and she slid it under me. “I'm so glad we can spend time together like this,” she said as she taped the new diaper into place “How are feeling about all this.” “Really good, mommy,” I said as I sat back up “It just feels right, you know?” “I know exactly how you feel,” she said. “I just wonder why all this started,” I said “Do you think it's anything to worry about?” “Not at all honey,” she said with a knowing smile as she rubbed my back “Sometimes things just fall into place.” Before I could respond Aunt Linda walked in to announce that dinner was ready. Mommy helped me to my feet and began to walk me towards the kitchen. As we walked I looked at her curiously, not sure what she meant. But I let it go. Maybe she was right. We were both happy Maybe things had just fallen into place.
