DollyDiaper
For the last 3 weeks, listeners to Marc Riley's BBC6 Music Show have been voting for their "Top Ten List of Shame." These came in the first 3 places - 1. Des'ree - Life "I don't want to see a ghost It's the sight that I fear most I'd rather have a piece of toast." 2. Snap - Rhythm is a Dancer "I'm as serious as cancer When I say rhythm is a dancer" 3. Razorlight - Somewhere Else "And I met a girl She asked me my name And I told her." What ludicrous lyrics make you giggle or cringe? D lly Link to comment
ridiaperboy
"You are the magnet and I am steel" in the aptly-named mid-70s song Magnet and Steel by Walter Egan is the first song lyric that pops into my mind that fits the criteria of lyrics that make me cringe. I'd rather hear chalk on a slateboard squeal than hear that song or its lyrics. Great thread, Dolly! More of my personal "favorites" to come as they come to mind! Link to comment

I don't think thats where they would have got the name from. The song is about going to the seaside. Brighton (in England) is mentioned. Link to comment
ChrisKnight
How about when The Cranberries tried to rhyme "bombs" with "guns" or when Shakira did the same thing with "here" and "idea" Link to comment
Sunshine2585
Chris, you just reminded me of one of Shakira's songs. Whenever, wherever. Lucky that my breasts are small and humble So you don't confuse them with mountains Link to comment
DollyDiaper
Thanks for the gigges and grimaces so far! I think Macarthur Park by Richard Harris deserves a mention here - Macarthur Park is melting in the dark All the sweet, green icing flowing down Someone left the cake out in the rain I don't think that I can take it 'Cause it took so long to bake it And I'll never have that recipe again Oh, no! Here's the tune and full lyrics if anyone isn't familiar with it - Macarthur Park D lly Link to comment
ChrisKnight
Chris, you just reminded me of one of Shakira's songs. Whenever, wherever.Lucky that my breasts are small and humble So you don't confuse them with mountains Yeah, the "here" and "idea" was somewhere in the chorus of that song. I forgot how funny the actual lyrics were. How about that album that William Shatner put out? I don't know if those could as lyrics or simply spoken word with some music behind it. Link to comment

DollyDiaper
One song that never ceases to amuse me is Bike written by the late & great Syd Barrett from Pink Floyd - "I've got a bike, You can ride it if you like It's got a basket, a bell that rings And things to make it look good I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it." That's the first verse but they all make me giggle, so here are the full lyrics Bike D lly Link to comment
