~ Ludicrous Lyrics ~

Recommended Posts

For the last 3 weeks, listeners to Marc Riley's BBC6 Music Show have been voting for their "Top Ten List of Shame."

These came in the first 3 places -

1. Des'ree - Life

"I don't want to see a ghost

It's the sight that I fear most

I'd rather have a piece of toast."

2. Snap - Rhythm is a Dancer

"I'm as serious as cancer

When I say rhythm is a dancer"

3. Razorlight - Somewhere Else

"And I met a girl

She asked me my name

And I told her."

What ludicrous lyrics make you giggle or cringe?

"You are the magnet and I am steel" in the aptly-named mid-70s song Magnet and Steel by Walter Egan is the first song lyric that pops into my mind that fits the criteria of lyrics that make me cringe. I'd rather hear chalk on a slateboard squeal than hear that song or its lyrics.

Great thread, Dolly! More of my personal "favorites" to come as they come to mind!

'Seaside Shuffle' by Terry Dactyl and the Dinosaurs

The band name always makes me laugh. And the song makes me giggle too. The lyrics are here.

Just a side note.... never heard of Seaside Shuffle myself....but...there is a city called Seaside here in Oregon, its on the coast... one of the stops of Lewis and Clark and the Oregon trail......... ok.. probably not that interesting to ya, but thought I would share anyways.... kind of wonder if thats where they got the name from....anyways....

I don't think thats where they would have got the name from. The song is about going to the seaside. Brighton (in England) is mentioned.

:P Thanks for the gigges and grimaces so far!

I think Macarthur Park by Richard Harris deserves a mention here -

Macarthur Park is melting in the dark

All the sweet, green icing flowing down

Someone left the cake out in the rain

I don't think that I can take it

'Cause it took so long to bake it

And I'll never have that recipe again

Oh, no!

Here's the tune and full lyrics if anyone isn't familiar with it - Macarthur Park

Chris, you just reminded me of one of Shakira's songs. Whenever, wherever.

Lucky that my breasts are small and humble

So you don't confuse them with mountains

Yeah, the "here" and "idea" was somewhere in the chorus of that song. I forgot how funny the actual lyrics were.

How about that album that William Shatner put out? I don't know if those could as lyrics or simply spoken word with some music behind it.

You talkin' to me?

You talkin' to me?

You callin' me, has been?

What'd you say your name is?

Jack, never done jack

Glad to meet ya

Who's your friend?

Dick, don't say dick

Whaddya know?

And your friend, what's your handle?

Don, two thumbs Don

One song that never ceases to amuse me is Bike written by the late & great Syd Barrett from Pink Floyd -

"I've got a bike,

You can ride it if you like

It's got a basket, a bell that rings

And things to make it look good

I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it."

That's the first verse but they all make me giggle, so here are the full lyrics Bike

I was listening to the Boyzone version of this song this morning, and it struck me how bizarre the opening verse is. 'Love Me For A Reason'

Girl when you hold me

How you control me

You bend and you fold me

Any way you please

Better wake up this sleep head,

Big old world will pass us by,

So many things we could do instead,

Get what you want with your lucky eyes

I like the music video with Shakira and Wy Cleaf; "My Hips Don't Lie". That Shakira can swing those hips sooo nice!

Hey, what can I say? I'm a guy I drool over videos like that! One song that makes me giggle is by UB-40:

"Red, red wine you make me feel so fine

You keep me rockin' all of the time!"

and yes it does! :D

There is a seaside in California & New jersey, And they are on the coast too. or should I say at the side of the sea? You think that bad try looking up "Lakeside".

Any way back to the lyrics

"If I said you have a beautiful body would you hold it against me?"

from within temptation, song called what have you done now

Would you mind if I killed you

Would you mind if I tried to

Cause you have turned into my worst enemy

You carry hate that I feel

It's over now

What have you done

i just always have to laugh, what question is that! Would you mind if i killed you ^_^

I've always found the Beatles are good for giggly lyrics.

Baby, you can drive my car

yes, I'm gonna be a star

Baby you can drive my car

And maybe I'll love you

Beep beep mm beep beep, yeah

Beep beep mm beep beep, yeah

Beep beep mm beep beep, yeah

Everybody's got something to hide

Except for me and my monkey.

Ob-la-di, ob-la-da,

Life goes on, bra

La la how the life goes on

And I could go on and on.
