Creating a new diaper

10 posts in this topic

First I don't want to get hopes up, this may not go past a idea. What would it take to creamy a new diaper brand. It would not be catered to the abdl at first .

How would I go about reaching possible manufacturing partners? I was looking on allibaba last night, would one start there? Do you have as much say as what kind of diaper you have manufactured? Or are you limited to what they are already creating?

Cost what type of costs would I be looking at? I would like to partner up with something like Amazon fulfillment to get started where they handle all of the shipping and packaging .

Again just an idea.

My suggestion is that you start with a visit to the website of an experienced consultant to the disposable diaper industry.

The easiest such site to find is  http://disposablediaper.net/ owned by Carlos Richer.

It's hard to imagine what kind of new diaper that could be created that hasn't already been done or various elements of it already patented.  If you have a unique idea, go for it.  By the way, Alibaba is a commercial distributor, not a manufacturer.

when the Daily Diaper Review section was accessible, I saw over 80 kinds of throw-aways, what would be the point?

Pn the other hand I could come up with a couple of designs for new (more like old) cloth diapers

I think it would cost a lot... I think to make it affordable you would have to buy in bulk, a huge bulk as well.

Then you would need a place to store it all, a warehouse or something. Then you need to make sure you can actually then sell your product to enough people to make money, all the while making sure the quality remains high and that you have good customer service and deliver on time.

If you have the money and resources for all that then good luck to you! But I think the start up costs will be very high and it would be a very risky move.

I don't want to just tell you not to do it, just saying it would be both expensive and risky, if you can soak all that up, then good luck to you, would always be nice to have more choice!

When you start a full-time busienss, you need to be prepared to lose money for about two years and in a crowded market like this. What would your selling point be? What could you offer that the other 80 could not?

Where did the DD Review page go?

You have to buy in bulk to get anyone to make them for you, period.  If you can't muster an order of at least 30-50K per size and be able to pay for nearly half up front and the balance before the boat leaves the harbor, you're not getting any diapers at all.

It would take an order of around 80,000 pieces before Alibaba would accept it to go to the manufacturers for quotes.

Do something like wearing clouds diapers.com has done but put your warehouse on the east coast and make your selling point on faster shipping for east coast customers.

Yeah, and encounter massive extra shipping costs because either the boat has to sail through the Panama Canal to get to you or you have to hire a truck or train to cart your shipments across the country over land.
