Inco Question

For the last month I have been suffering with heavy Incontinence problems which has changed my life style and can’t go out anymore (well I fell like that) I have seen a specialist adviser and done some tests etc and they have told me that I have been placed on a waiting list (6-8 months) to have more tests done to find out what the problem is.

Every 15 or so minutes I need to go to the toilet really bad and if I can’t make it in time. I wet.

When I spoke to the specialist advisor she gave me a bag of TENA slip –and handed me one to put on for my travel home. Well what a shock – it looks just like baby’s nappies but a lot bigger….now I have been put on ant-depressant.

Is there anyone else with the same problems as me or am I the only one?

I've had problems ever since I had muscle damage when I was in my mid teens. AngleGirl26, you are hardly the only one in the world with this problem. I managed to make it through high school as a varsity football player, have a girlfriend, go to college, travel half way around the world and back, get a job, get married, and hopefully much more. It is just a matter of being modest and descrete. I could never wear the male version of hoochie momma clothes or pants that droop down to my knees, but wearing normal clothes was never a problem. One long term girlfriend told me that it was likely easier for girls to cover up wearing diapers due to more privacy in bathrooms. She also said that long flowing loose fitting skirts would conseal such things very well (at least they did so with the large maxi pads she had to wear). So, it's not the end of life, a little adaptation, and there's nothing to miss out on! In fact, once you have your incontinence under control, it can be very liberating (it was for me) because it's one less thing you have to worry about.

Cheers from Athens,

DP

Probably every one of us has, at one time or another, FELT like we were the only one. Most years, I was the only diapered kid in school, and that did get a little lonely even though I was well accepted. As the other two responders said, you're far from the only one, and incontinence, whether it's a passing thing or permanent, is not the end of your life by any means.

Incontinent products (some just HATE to call them nappies or diapers) can be embarrassing to use. They also make it possible for you to continue doing all the things that make life meaningful. It is not easy to get to the point where you full accept diapers or nappies as a fact of your life, but it can be done. Many of us lead very normal lives in every respect but this one.

Some have learned to actually enjoy the experience of wearing diapers. They're not huge in number, but there ARE people who get turned on at the thought of a relationship with a diapered person.

I hope you can find it in yourself to use your experience of incontinence as an opportunity to experience life from a different, and possibly very interesting perspective. Good luck!

I have stress incontinence and then learned to like and even get comfort from the feeling of the softness and security diapers provide. Many people wear something for incontinence, it is a big market. Once I saw a photo of women lining up for a marathon race and almost all were wearing diapers of some kind like Depends undergarments.

your symptoms can be cuased by anything from a simple baldder infection or something like Interstitial cystitus a dease that taht cuases very frequent urnination every 15 mins or so but there are many other cuases as well u are not alone many people suffer from incontinence, dont get down and you will soon find that life will continue as normal like those of us who are incon we just live our lives like everyone else but we have diferant underwear.

I hope u can find help and know there are people who share your problems and can offer support if needed.

i did that route too, anti depressants, therapy, and so on. the root of my problem was found after years of tests. i thought i was too young to have this happen to me, and i went into a tailspin.

my therapyst to ld me to ask a question, how long did it take you to cope with incon.

it happened to be the right question for me to cope with it all, and from there on out i been fine.

just remember,,, dont crawl into a hole,, its harder to get out if the depression sets in.

it takes some getting used to, and you need to find out what works for you,,,,

good luck, and try to look at your diapers as being fun in some way. it helps

Hi, AngleGirl26. I know you posted some time ago, but I've only recently replaced my computer and have just rejoined this discussion group. If you had an infection, I hope they were able to diagnose it and put you on antibiotics. That's the main thing for now - get rid of the infection. I have had bladder infections but never (to my knowledge) had interstitial cystitis. But if you're still in Tena Slips, it really is OK. I know that when I started wearing protection, I then realized I was really much more comfortable, since I had "one less thing to worry about." I could actually go somewhere that was more than 15 minutes away from my bathroom. I haven't seen Tena Slips on "this side of the Pond," but you may be able to find something that's just as effective but is even more discreet, so no one you see out on the street would suspect anything. I don't know about in England, but packaging on many of the products you see in the stores here claim they are more like underwear. I hope there will be opportunities in England for you to check those out. Good luck and let us know how you make out!

6 to 8 months is a long time. Are you in the UK? Socialized medicine has its problems.

You are not alone by any stretch of the imagination! sadly in some cases there are a lot of people out there with the same if not similar condition.

And yes I agree being given a seemingly huge nappy to put on to go home with is a big big shock, but if you are waiting to see a specialist, cheer up, you may even get to like the products that save you from any embarrasment, I soon realised that my problem probably would not get better (and it has not, but some peoples do!) but one must use the supplied nappies to regain your freedom, after all no one will actually know that you are wearing an "absorbant product" unless you tell them, even my best friends still do not know that I wear a nappy pretty much 24/7 let alone that it gets used (thank goodness for nappies) as they have allowed me my former freedom before I had real problems.

So the very best of luck to you and try not to worry as there are an awful lot of medicines and or procedures out there that may well work for you-think positive-that is a big part of the healing process. :)

Aw, don't worry about it. There is no reason not to go out anymore. Throw a few diapers, and wipes if you need them, in a backpack and head out. YOU'LL notice your own diaper and think the whole world can see it because you already know it's there, but in reality, nobody can see it. Even IF it can be spotted once in a while, people generally are not staring at your butt. Honest, they have better things to do! (Well, MY butt gets stared at sometimes, but hey, I was blessed) People really don't notice!

I had a friend, who had been to my house and I answered the door still in a diaper and t-shirt (I'm open about it, I don't care anymore). Later on, when I had said something about my diaper, she was all shocked that I wore them. Yes, even with them out in the open, people aren't quick to notice.
