The easiest thing you can do is to cut out the soda. Full stop. One can of Coke is 140 or so calories. You need to jog for 15 minutes just to burn off one can of Coke.

I agree. Soda contains sugar. If you have to drink soda pop, as I mentioned, drink diet pop and look for the soda that has Splenda instead of aspartame. Diet Rite and Pepsi One are two of them. Otherwise, diet pop has zero or 1 calorie only.

Water is so much more beneficial than soda pop. I know not everyone can stomach plain drinking water but avoiding all the artificial garbage that is in soda and diet soda is very important as well IMO.....

Before I make an ass out of myself, let me just explain a few things. I myself am overweight, my doctor has told me that he has considered putting me on cholesterol pills within a year if lifestyle changes cannot control my cholesterol. I admit that I wasn't as strong as I should have been when I was living with my mother and grandmother, who didn't care to eat healthy. Since I have moved out and moogle moved in with me, I have gradually moved more into eating healthier.

1) You can eat fruit and veggies, you just don't want to. If you don't like raw veggies, there's other options, slow-roasting vegetables helps coax out the natural sugars in vegetables, making them tastier and easier to digest, and keeps their nutritional value.

2) White cheese doesn't mean jack shit, cheese is cheese and is thus high in fat. I am from Wisconsin and I love my cheese, but since I moved out, my intake has gone down greatly, partly due to eating more Asian-inspired dishes, partly because moogle has a dairy allergy and I do my best to stick to a dairy-free diet to show support for him.

3) Pizza is one of the most unhealthy foods out there, especially if you can't/won't eat vegetables.

4) Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, eventually I plan on taking in 50% of my daily food intake during breakfast. You don't have to eat breakfast food during breakfast anyway.

5) Water doesn't work for your benefit? NEWSFLASH: your body is 70% WATER, not 70% SODA. Switch from regular soda to a lower-calorie soda, then wean yourself off the soda (it'll work, diet soda sucks.) Gatorade is not meant as something to grab and drink as a snack. Gatorade is formulated as an electrolyte-replacer, drinking Gatorade or other isotonics when your body doesn't need it, can cause your body to become dehydrated.

6) Water does not give you a dry mouth, that is bullshit. Why your mouth feels dry is because you're dehydrated.

Most of your body's rejection of healthy foods, I'd bet can be overcome, your body rejects them because you haven't eaten them very much. As we age, our palates change. I used to not like peas, but now I enjoy them right alongside corn, potatoes, rice, or noodles as starches. (Peas, potatoes, and corn are not vegetables nutritionally speaking, they're starches.). I've talked to a couple vegans who say they can't stomach meat anymore because their body chemistry has changed, that can be reversed, if they desired.

Exercise, I understand what you're saying, I've got cerebral palsy, and before it got worse (due to a 4 month nightmare at walmart), I had worked my way up to doing almost nine mile walks. I don't have the endurance at the present time to do that again, but I will hopefully have that endurance by next year Start by planning out a route in your neighborhood on Google Maps (unless you live in a dangerous neighborhood, then go to one of the parks in the city where you live. Shopping and doing errands, while they can cause weightloss--working at Walmart I ended up at 220, it's not as easy to gauge your distance, pedometers can be inaccurate. If you can't get walking, go the YMCA.

Alcohol is high-calorie, about a year ago, I got my XBox360 and my friends and I would all drink and play CoD or Battlefield, and I would mix strong drinks for myself while playing. Even though it does help me be better at the game (to a point, and my K-D proves it) I have cut down to maybe 2 beers or one drink per week when playing.

And Honu is right, I don't have to look it up, black coffee is a suspension of coffee in water. Dr. Oz was referring to sugary drinks from Starbucks that are basically inverse black coffee.

My response

1) Water making my mouth dry - NOT BS! You can't make that assumption without knowing me personally.

2) I've tried eating veggies/fruits in the past, and the results were not pretty. We're not talking about me being a child and just "wanting attention". Serious physiological effects happen when I try to "simply overcome it". Once again, you're making the assumption without even knowing me personally.

3) Coffee tastes quite nasty to me. I've tried it, with and without creamer, sugar, splenda, sweet N low, etc. Coffee is not an option.

4) Reducing soda - Okay, yes, soda is totally effin bad. But not as bad as drinking beer like nobody's business, and I bet dollars to donuts some out there (maybe not in this discussion or even this board) have drank til they passed out. I'm not one of them. I used to drink WAY more soda in youth, and now I have got it cut down to a more meager level, but to cut it out completely is not an option, but that IS what I'm WORKING ON with a therapist. If I have to say that one more time, I'm just gonna say fuck it, and y'all can take your "wonderful" suggestions and shove em up your collective asses.

Finally, mischa, if you think my body's rejection of healthy foods can simply be "overcome" I invite YOU to be the one to try it. I've been trying for 33 years. If you think you can just snap your fuckin' fingers and get it done, I'd pay good money to see that happen. I've talked to doctors, counselors, even specialists, and they all say that while the body SHOULD be able to overcome those rejections, they are unable to "fix" that annoying part of my body, my mind, etc. But hey, if you've got a special cure, I'm ALL FUCKIN' EARS and... one eye.

FOOD is not the problem. Lack of movement is! I can make small changes, but totally radically alter my routine as you suggest. So here's a tip: Next time someone asks for suggestions, DON'T ASSUME SHIT!

With that I'm done. Have a great fuckin' labor day people!

Wow, okay. Your mouth feels drier after you drink some water because you're not drinking enough water. Take your bodyweight divided by two and that's how many ounces you need to drink at a minimum per day.

Don't give me the "you don't know my body" because unless you've been diagnosed with an actual disease that prevents you from digesting food, you can do it. Fact, humans are omnivores, over millions of years of evolution, we have become able to take nourishment from both plant and animal sources.

Making excuses why you should drink soda is pretty freaking sad. If you want to lose weight and be healthier, you're going to need more than just exercise.

If you can tolerate soda you can tolerate plain water. Soda is 90% water and there's no magical fucking ingredient in soda that makes it tolerable to you over water.

Food is just as important as movement in losing weight. If you work out and then go eat a supersized big mac extra value meal and then down a giant-sized soda, you'll still be unhealthy. It's not just losing weight, you need to have a healthy lifestyle. Same thing happens if you eat healthy and don't do any exercise, you'll still be unhealthy.

As for you saying to us to shove our suggestions up our asses. WE REPLIED BECAUSE YOU ASKED FOR HELP!

But since I'm not a doctor and not bound by the Hippocratic Oath I don't really give a shit what you do, in all honesty, because it seems to me from every one of your posts you're not really fully on board with getting healthy. I'm out, good luck to you.

Sometimes it is really tough listening to sound advice....especially when it goes against all the things that we think are true and factual about ourselves. We convince ourselves that we can't do something even before we try. Or we try a couple of things, fail miserably, and then say 'See! It won't work for me!' The plain and simple truth when it comes down to weight loss is to eat less and exercise more. There is no secret formula. No magic wand. No hopeful wish that can break that undeniable truth.

Jeff. I'm not going to claim that I know you better than you do. However there are things that I do know about me that sound similar. For one....I get dry mouth when I drink plain water as well. I think it is my body's way of rejecting water in an attempt to induce me back into drinking soda pop. Kinda like withdrawal symptoms if you catch my meaning. It only goes away when I cut soda out of my diet completely. I think the same thing is happening to you....but I cannot say for absolute certainty.

You mention that you cannot eat veggies or fruit. Have you tried different things? Sounds simple...but it gets back to what I was saying before. We give up on things without even trying because we're convinced that we'll fail or something will go wrong. Not all fruits and veggies are created equal so I would encourage you to try something different before you say you cannot eat any fruits and veggies. Have you gone to see a doctor or nutritionalist about your issues with fruits and veggies?

You also say food is not the problem with you. Knowing myself...I feel much, much better when I eat healthy as opposed to eating processed foods that lack significant nutritional values. However I always seem to go back to eating junk food because my body seems to crave it overwhelmingly. Its tough to undo years of systematic abuse in a few short weeks or even months but until you believe you can do it....you won't get very far.

My advice to you is don't give up on trying to get healthier. Folks here (like myself) might not be able to articulate properly the meaning and tone of advice given. Especially when it is delivered over the net in a forum such as this one. Try and stay positive and have an open mind. You might just find that little nugget of advice that you've been looking for.

All,

Diapered Jeff is looking for our support as much as anything else. We have our own bodies and we actually do know what we need. He says he doesn't have emotion/food issues and just needs more exercise. He's been asking for suggestions in that regard and I'm assuming that he's also looking for a little support if not some accountability to post progress and let us know when he achieves his goal.

One of the "individual" issues is pH. I know that my pH is acidic and I have better health when I eat chiles and other acidic foods. This doesn't work for everyone and the level of chiles that eat would make other people ill. Since he reports now that he's eating small amounts of food several times a day, I can share with all of you that the Thai people do that and they are extremely thin, but in a healthy way. That's a good way to keep your blood sugar up and give your stomach time to shrink down. Mischa mentioned Asian inspired food and I'll go all out and recommend Asian food. Try to get the real stuff, not just the Asian-North American versions. Real Asian food is low in sodium, fat and calories. Also, in Asia it's served in small (reasonable) portions.

Good luck and please let us all know how things are going for you. WRT your bike, you do know that it still officially summer for another couple of weeks, right?

The proof, as they say, is in the pudding. You know your body better than anyone, naturally, so try it out. Start exercising without changing your diet. If it works, it works. If it doesn't, well, then there's something else that has to change. Don't fall into the trap, though, of where you exercise and the weight doesn't easily melt off, that somehow you were just destined to be overweight.

It comes easily for some, but incredibly difficult for others. There are people who have to keep food diaries, writing down every single calorie that they eat, just to make sure they hit their targets right. Hopefully it isn't that bad for you, but if you're serious about losing weight, you need to overcome your justifications for consuming empty calories. Just because drinking soda is better that drinking booze doesn't mean that drinking soda is healthy for you.

You being defensive after asking for tips for weight loss is kinda childish and aggravating- just from a reader's perspective, fyi. Stop blaming other, stop cursing, and stop assuming 'your body' is keeping you from getting fit. If you really believed this, you would have never asked for help.

I'm currently on a weight-loss trend, so I've been reading a bit into everything on the subject..... and here's what I can offer to you from reading through your posts.

You want to lose a big amount of weight, but you can't participate in high-intensity exercises (like sprints, ect). Lifting up heavy things is also a huge way to cut weight. It stimulates your muscles, and after hard workouts- makes those muscles work for hours after they've done their job, which is good for helping your body to circulate blood/burn fat... but you also probably will have trouble with a lot of these... try dumbells to start. While walking does help the metabolism- high intensity training is what can really help to burn fatvfast... Walking is obviously better than nothing, so keep doing that... but, it's not going to help you lose 15-30 pounds without some huge efforts in other places.

Swimming is great for people in positions like yours, it's why older generations use 'water workouts'. It's really hard to pull muscles if you stretch right, and it can be as calm or intense as you make it. Swimming (correctly) is also a full-body workout... and you can do sprints in-between laps to make it high-intensity if you wanna go this route. I recommend this, don't use the 'oh but it's expensive' bit as an excuse. You're asking for help, so take it.

Now, like I (and others) have said, if you can't do heavy workouts, you're going to have to overhaul your diet. While slowing down on cola is admirable, it's not enough. Cut it completely- you'll forget it exists after a week (I used to love Dr. Pepper, and it tasted like poo after 1.5 weeks off it completely). DRINK WATER. All the time. It's what you need to purge the crap from your system. At least 8 cups a day ( I recommend more) especially if your weight is high.

Myfitnesspal.com can help you get on the right track for calorie counting, and http://swole.me/ is a GREAT diet planner (it actually steers away from veggies, but has a lot of fruits cause hey, they're good for you and good tasting (eat them). Stuff like protein shakes are a good idea... if you can actually use them as a meal- just use them on days you're working out. A really good read is http://brainoverbrawn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/brainoverbrawn.pdf

After thinking carefully, I may have been hastily defensive. I know they are all good suggestions, but my dietary restrictions are not going to help, and to the guy that said even white cheese is high in fat, I don't think 4.5g (grams) of fat is high, but then if you're saying anything over 1g is high, then I guess my biology teacher in high school was an idiot. That out of the way, I do consciously try to make conscious decisions on alternative (edible for me) foods that allow me to eat that has less fat, low sodium, low cholesterol (or none) and high protein, high fiber, etc. I still hold the assumption that I just need more exercise. I've been looking around for gym memberships that have a low monthly fee. It's not that I've never exercised in my life, but my exercise has declined in the last four years due to mental health reasons (among others).

I guess what I was originally looking for was not necessarily dietary suggestions but ways to get my exercise in that doesn't hurt so badly. I wasn't joking in my earlier post about the fact that walking HURTS. I mean HURTS. We're not talking about the kind of "Good Pain". No, it's BAD! Had it in my teens, and back then I was VERY active. Although I couldn't afford a doctor visit then (nobody in my immediate family could), so I just dealt with it until I got a desk job. I put it on the backburner for so long that when I had my ... um... mental nervous breakdown a few years ago, and had to walk EVERYWHERE, it really became apparent that I had some sort of problem with my feet (other than being flat-footed). Having plantar fascitis along with curving toes (again, the x-rays weren't pretty) definitely confirmed my suspicions that I had problems that couldn't be fixed WITHOUT surgery (and surgery isn't an option right now).

Though I think I may have found a great alternative to paying fees to a gym membership. When I finally start going to school (hopefully in the spring or next summer), I get to go to the schools fitness center facilities for free. Can't get any better than free, right?

Again, I apologize for my outburst, but when someone decides and even goes as far to say they know my body better than I do, it's sort of assuming things that aren't necessarily true for me. That's like my saying [individual A] shouldn't be in a wheelchair and should be able to walk no problem without even knowing the first thing about that person. Like if he's got a condition that limits his mobility? Or if there's something else that prevents him from walking like a neurological disorder? It's not unheard of, but you get my point.

@sarah_ab - I thought the same thing. LOL Beer is not my family's friend. I've made it a point to be only a social drinker (and very rare occasional drinker at best).

@Zpeed - Yes, excessive ANYTHING is bad. I used to drink 24 cans of pop a day, and now I barely get in two a day at best. Surprisingly, I went to that "myfitnesspal.com" someone else mentioned, and just putting in my meals I was still 500-600 calories left in my Calorie Balance of 1500 calories. That's how much LESS I eat than the average joe schmoe! :-D

So I think exercise is the best option, but I have to start out slow and work my way back to how I used to workout/exercise. I just need to work out the issues with my feet.

Jeff, have you tried replacing soda with seltzer water or perrier water? I used to drink tons of soda when I was younger, several times a day, but now I drink almost exclusively seltzer water. It's more fun and tastier (in my opinion) than regualr water. Polar Seltzer comes in a large array of flavors. They even have an eggnog flavor around Christmas time that is pretty good (not that it will ever replace real eggnog)! There are also a lot of calorie-free, sugar-free drink mixes out there that can be added to water to make it taste like not-water. If you really HAVE to have your daily soda fix then go with diet, always. Or, once a week, splurge and have the 1 can of sugary soda but make it diet the rest of the time. Find your own balance.

Also, I don't think anyone has mentioned the two words that are pretty much the greatest killer of Americans these days: Saturated Fats. These little buggers cause plaque to build up in your arteries resulting in heart attacks. I was diagnosed recently with high cholesterol and had to cut WAY back on this stuff. It's in practically EVERYTHING! Ignore the cholesterol measurements on the nutrition labels. Choloesterol in food doesn't necessarily convert into cholesterol in your body. What does it is the saturated fat. Cheese, I believe, was my killer. I used to eat a good hunk of cheddar every single day. If you read the label on most cheeses you'll find that a 1 inch cube (1 inch!) has about 1/3 of your allowed saturated fat for the day! Holy crap! I switched to low-fat string cheese so I could get my daily "fix." I also switched to zero-saturated-fat/zero-sugar creamer for my coffee. I eat lean meats. I stay away from baked goods except for bread and when I eat bread I make sure it's whole wheat instead of white. ANYTHING with added sugar is going to make you gain weight. Why? Because if your body dosen't burn the sugar off then it's going to store it as fat. Fat = an increase in your cholesterol = and increase in the likelyhood you will die of of a heart attack.

I agree with you about the exercise. It's HARD when your body isn't able to do the things it used to be able to do, especially if you're in pain. Start slow. Walk a regular route 15 minutes a day without stopping. Bump it up to 1/2 hour daily. Exercising heavy several times a week is great but it's hard to stick to. Doctors recommend AT LEAST 1/2 hour of moderate exercise 5 to 6 days a week JUST to MAINTAIN your current body weight. If you want to loose weight it's gotta be more like an hour of SUSTAINED exercise (not just walking while you shop which involves a lot of stopping, looking, resting, etc.) daily. Walking is free. You don't have to join a gym. If you're looking for a cardio workout in the winter time, purchase a compact exercise bike. I bought one from Amazon for $210. I use it all winter long when I can't get out and walk. It sounds like a lot of money but if you use it regularly then it will pay for itself and is a LOT cheaper than joining a gym in the long run. I've had mine for about 4 years now. It's a Schwinn and it's got different settings so you can start out very easy and work up to difficult. AND it's low impact!

Best of luck, Jeff. I hope you find a system that works! :)

The guy who said diet has way more to do with weight loss than exercise is absolutely right. Your doctor is simply wrong on that advise and I would refer him to the large body of research done on this topic. If you are unwilling or unable to change your diet then you will always have limited success with sustained weight loss. Most people cannot keep up with the exercise needed to burn a calorically reckless diet. Good luck, but you have to approach this as a change to your life which means hard choices have to be made otherwise chances of getting what you want are greatly diminished.

You (OP) are honestly not even trying to listen to our ideas- which is why you created this thread.

I truly hope that your methods work.... but there are quite a few posters here who have experience and know a complete diet overhaul, and more strenuous exercise than walking is necessary for significant weight loss.

Good luck, but I'm done posting here.

@thick and dry - YOU (the responder) have not been listening to my responses either, so I would say we both have a problem listening, wouldn't you say? I mean, you've made assumptions about my beer drinking, sweets intake, etc and yet you haven't even asked "Do you drink? Do you eat sweets?" No, and no! I barely drink at all. Maybe once a year for my birthday and that's about it. Same with sweets. I may have a sweet tooth once a month if that.

Strenuous exercise (after not having exercised in such a long time) is one of those things you don't just JUMP right into. It needs to be WORKED UP INTO. People who go balls out diving right into hardcore butt-kicking exercise are the ones that usually quit after about a week or two, a month at best, because they are so sore that it hurts to move any muscle in their body. Why? Because they've been overloaded. WOW! I don't have to be a freakin' genius to know that!

With that, I'm done too. I'm going to continue my methods, because you all assume too much, and aren't being very helpful at all. Just making one assumption after another. And I'm biting my effing tongue not to say something mean, but I gotta tell ya. You all say I'm not listening, I suggest you are all doing the same thing and not taking into consideration someone's medical issues, and have not even once considered the idea that I HAVE TRIED to eat leafy healthy rabbit food. My body's reaction is not fun, not pretty, and certainly is not something I would wish upon even my worst enemy. So on that note, go on pretending that you're all right and never wrong, because doctors don't know shit, and you know my body better than I do. Go on believing that. I would hope that after this post, my account is banned, because I'm sick of the "high and mighty" mindset of some folks on this forum.

Good day, and go suck on a pacifier for a while.

Jeff: Before you go....have you considered the Atkins Diet at all? People might find it very controversial but I had spectacular results on it a number of years ago. Like to the tune of over 100lbs lost in less than 6 months. I've since piled on the pounds once again but your current diet sounds like it might be darn near close to Atkins anyway.

To the naysayers: I know the Atkins diet isn't everyones cup of tea. However it did work well for me when I was on it. I only began gaining weight back when I went back to eating junk food and drinking gallons of soda again. HAD I gotten down to the maintenance phase of the Atkins diet, where you eat plenty of vegetables and fruit as well as low fat meats, then I think I would have enjoyed great success.....

As always...Your Mileage May Vary

@drynot - No, I've not tried the Atkins diet, it involves eggs, and I've tried eggs. They're so yucky to me that I can't believe people eat them in any form.

Lol, you were the one talking about your cola intake.. which was the only thing I responded to.... You aren't even addressing the right people.

Actually, the ones who quit are usually the ones who make a workout 'work'. If you find something you enjoy, you can take your body as far as you want. Your muscles are supposed to be sore.. all that stuff you're lifting is heavy! How do you expect to get your body stronger? Walking is barely a warmup routine... it's a normal human function. You don't know jack about pacing or 'working up to' certain exercises... know how I know that? Cause you're asking for help on a fetish site.

and you may be listening, but you're also making EXCUSES.. 'oh I'll start working out next summer (lol)... or after asking for help from ordinary people- then telling them 'you're not a doctor wah wah wah'. Well, no crap... but we've done diet changes, exercises... and most of us have tried methods outside our own range! It's called pushing yourself, and is fulfilling.

Not even gonna try and give you diet advice, cause you're too smug to want it.

I've read through most of this thread and despite what the OP says, I have to agree with one of the earlier posters that one of the easiest and most effective ways to loose weight is to simply not drink anything with sugar in it (no sugar or milk). Sugar substitutes from what I understand aren't much better in terms of weight/gain loss but I haven't looked into research on that too deeply. Anyway, I went from drinking a lot of soda to drinking nothing but water and straight tea/coffee. Caffeine from what I understand isn't the devil it's been made out to be in the past and actually can have some benefits in particular in terms of male prostate health, at least based on some early research.

I actually had to adjust my diet to eat more after stopping the sugary drinks as I was loosing too much weight. I have a real shitty metabolism too. I have struggled with my weight my entire life and my whole family, including my extended family is overweight or clinically obese.

In addition I am also a very picky eater and have had to overcome some of that. These days I don't eat any pre-packaged food and only eat whole foods leaning towards simplicity. I eat a lot of raw fruit and veg, cheese, and whole wheat bread. That change in diet didn't do anything to help me loose weight though. It just makes me feel better and get sick less.

I also exercise and have found that the single best exercise in terms of cost/benefit is pushups. It does a lot to work out big chucks of your body while requiring very minimal amounts of time. Again though this doesn't help with weight loss it just increases muscle mass but that's part of health too.

Loosing weight really comes down to a very simple equation. Consume less calories and for me personally the easiest and most effective way to basically cut your consumption in half in a lot of cases is to cut out soda (or any sugary drinks which includes gatorade which is very high in sugar content). For me this was especially true as I generally can only get away with about 1000 calories a day. It's not immediate. I lost the weight I lost over maybe a year. It took that long at least for people to start mentioning I was looking too skinny which prompted me to start eating more.

You are never going to lose weight on exercise alone unless you are a marathon runner. What you'll find is the amount of exercise required will be too discouraging and eventually, everyone gives up. The food you eat is way more important for losing weight, whereas exercising is most important for maintaining your weight. Here is the thing, not eating breakfast is actually probably costing you in terms of weight loss, since you will perform inefficiently until lunch and as a result will eat one large meal at lunch time. Anytime you eat a large meal, your body stores because it can only process so much at one time. Another thing, gatorade, soda, unnatrual juice, etc, are terrible for you in terms of weight loss. They all contain quite a few simple sugars that your body will not spend and cutting them out sounds like it will help you so much. You have to cut them out, or you will not lose weight.

Counting calories is really shitty IMO, because not only is tedious, but it is not accurate. It can work though if you do it for the rest of your life. Definitely don't do Atkins, don't do Jenny Craig, don't do South Beach, don't do Nutrisystem, they all all programs designed to help you lose weight, but not to keep it off and some are actually dangerous over extended periods. The reason I say this is because they want you to come back and be on their diet again. Everyone goes through the cycle weight loss/weight gain, but they don't know the cycle is perpetuated by the diet program. Whether or not it is by design, they make quite a bit of money off of this and Drynot is a case that supports this. You have to face the fact you will have to change your lifestyle if want to lose weight and keep it off. You have to admit that now. There is no easy way to do it.

First you have to cut the junk food out. It makes you less efficient anyway and you can feel this after you have eaten it, but it will be initially hard to overcome the opioid that will have you craving it. Another thing is knowing what junk food is is difficult in and of itself. This is because there are quite a few lies perpetuated by the food industry. Pretty much anything with high fructose corn syrup is junk food for you body. It is in many things, so be careful. Also, anything with hydrogenated or partially-hydrogenated oils will always contain trans fat, even if they say zero trans fat. What it is is a nice rounding trick the FDA lets them use. Anyways, the foods with these ingredients are always junk food, so avoid them. With the obvious said, you can pretty much spot junk food after you have eaten it by how long it stays in your stomach and how it makes you feel during the course of you day and especially your workout. A good motivator is your wallet, and not buying any soda, gatorade, and a whole bunch of other junk food will save you more than $150 a month at your level of intake, because water is free just about anywhere you go. Try initially to stop buying soda during your meals. Just have ice water. It is usually free. In addition, you will probably notice that you will eat more of you meal now that you are no longer filling up on soda. Replacing your sugar splurge, especially if it is HFCS, with actual food (i.e. complex carbohydrates) will help you greatly and you will feel so much better.

So, if cutting the junk food out of your diet does not help enough, then you will have to reduce the portion size of your meat in your diet as well as change the type of meat. Reducing that will go a long ways and you really only need about a deck of card size piece of meat a day, but everyone eats way more than that. This will also go a long ways in reducing cholesterol.

Alright, so my thoughts on snacks. Go ahead, have them, just make it a reasonably healthy snack. In fact, they will help you avoid that big meal that will cause you to store weight. I say if you are starving yourself, you are doing it wrong. Everyone eventually gives up if they are hungry all the time.

One very important thing before I finish with the diet stuff, you do not want to lose weight too fast, especially if you have had that weight for a long time. Otherwise, you could potentially encounter the problem Bill Clinton had and a delicate heart surgery will be required to save your life. We don't want that. A pound or two a week is good enough.

Exercise is just as tricky as the diet, because the gym can be discouraging over time causing you to give up. The trick is to do something you enjoy doing. Pick a sport. It does not have to be aggressive. For example, I enjoy racquetball quite a bit, so that is what I do for cardio on top of biking everywhere. If you look around, you can find some free outdoor courts. I personally will never workout on a machine. I cannot stand it, and I would rather run on a track. That is boring to me as well. Anyways, you know what you like to do, so do it. Don't worry about having to keep a schedule, just do it whenever you can.

That is pretty much my treatise on the subject. I am quite healthy with an athletic body. I have not been sick in a very long time (2+ years), and the last time I was sick was food poisoning. So, I think I must be doing something right. Oh, almost forgot to mention, Indian curry is a great part of my diet. I have just recently been starting to cook it myself and I highly recommend it if you like it. No, you cannot have the butter chicken.
