That seriously sucks big time. Where can you buy the account authenticator? On blizz's website? I've finally got my first toon up to lvl 80 and I definitely don't want something like that to happen to me.

Totally agree here! The WoW Authenticator is essential; imo. I use pretty strong passwords for anything with financial details on-board; and I also use a Mac which reduces the chance of keyloggers and malware and the like. But a gal can never be too careful :3

Well it's worth noting that the Authenticator is a *physical* device; and it's entirely optional :3

Snugglekitty and I went through the same grief. we caught it within minutes and had both accounts locked. The hackers tend to do the deed on Friday nights as Blizzard virtually shuts down customer service for the weekend. Same as you Di we now have tokens. Being a computer tech I can say that my systems were secure and it was not a Keylogger that hit me. There is a weekness being exploited within the game itself. No matter how good your security is there is always some thief trying just as hard to break it and steal from you.

with my current game (Lineage 2) its barely support at all, if ur lucky, u get ur account back, stripped for gear ofc...

i did buy a key thingy for WoW, but since i dont play it anymore i have never used it...

I've been pretty lucky, however I avoid the boards so not much in way of keyloggers. I also run spybot frequently to track malware.

I've been told by some hat there is a exploit that somehow can be used when you are grouped with someone. I don't have any of the details but it tracks as those folks that I know have been hacked seem to be hit within days of raids, huge group quests etc.

I had my account hijacked once, but it turned out I wasn't hacked. They got my name from a board where I registered and simply called up Blizzard and tricked the employee into changing the email on my account to one they controlled. Then all they had to do was file for a lost password and it was sent to them.

Rather than simply have my stuff deleted or sold, they actually transferred all my level 80 characters to other accounts. Took me nearly two months of fighting with Blizzard to get it fixed.

So I bought the authenticator thingie BUT anyone hear of someone getting hacked with that little piece of plastic set up on their account? I mean its just a preset amount of number chains into the authenticator. It seems like you could buy one and record all the numbers and then hack people or something. It doesn't seem THAT safe but I still own one.

The authenticators have a second code that you enter in your WoW account that creats number strings exclusive to your device.

It's virtually impossible to hack an account with an aunthenticator attached to it, in that it is a physical device that randomly generates a code synced via its indivudal serial number and the wow servers themselves. Yes it would be possible to hack the account if you were able to hack the blizz authentication servers, but at that point why would you be bothering with a single acct, and we'd have much bigger problems.

They're cheap at around 8 bucks or free if you have an iphone as was stated before. Worth it. I have to keep all my purps safe!
