It ended happily. I had to manage without a dummy while I was in hospital - they are OK with someone in nappies, but would probably struggle with an out-and-out AB on the ward. Mummy took my shorts home, which were still intact, and took my dummy out & kept it safe until I came home & we were reunited. It was in my mouth all last night.

It's not over yet. They won round 1 on points. I'll be back...

OK I'll try to explain something about what happened towards the end of my spell in hospital, and since then, in particular about getting back into nappies. First, in case anyone was wondering, I was completely constipated for my first 2 weeks in hospital, despite appropriate medication. I wasn't eating much, but eventually more drastic action was needed. Luckily by this time I was able to get out of bed, with the help of nursing staff and physiotherapists, so the eventual result of the inevitable enema was managed on a commode rather than a bedpan. Immense quantities with no major problem, and a huge relief. Still pretty much out of it on opioids of course. So, a couple of days before they were planning to discharge me, a nurse told me they wanted to remove my catheter. I knew this was coming, and to be honest wasn't too worried about it. I explained I had already had incontinence issues and would need to wear protection. As I expected the hospital didn't have anything suitable for patients who are well enough to get out of bed. They're set up for bed-bound patients only, and didn't have anything I could walk around in. So I explained my wife would bring in some nappies, & the catheter removal was put off till the next day. I phoned my wife & asked her to bring in a bag of Betterdry nappies & explained where to find them in the garage. And all that worked fine. The next day we were armed with the Betterdrys, and that evening a nurse pulled out the catheter and put on my nappy. By the way there was no way I was physically capable of putting on my own nappy at this point. The next couple of days nurses changed me in the morning, and in he evening my wife gave me a bed bath and changed my nappy - the first time this had ever happened. She was fine with this. And after that I was ready to go home. The physios had made sure I could just about walk and get up and down stairs. We got a rail fitted to our bed so I could get out of bed in the morning. My wife can't walk well, and certainly wasn't able to help me get out of bed. And so I was discharged and my wife drove me home. What a relief that was, although I felt guilty about the extra workload this would place on my wife. We've managed OK though so far. After a few weeks I was able to start showering myself, and managing to change my own nappies. I can now get out of bed without the rail, and that's gone back to where it came from. A few days ago I went back into washable nappies as well, although only the velcro ones - safety pins are as yet beyond my ability. I'm still on strong painkillers, but I've started reducing them. I'm still not able to do much physically, but every week I can do a bit more. Things are looking up!

It's been nearly 2 months since I've been on here, & I've got a lot of catching up to do. I thought it might be worthwhile to post what's been happening to me in the meantime. It'll take some time, so I'll take a few posts to do it. I'm not in great shape as yet either, so those posts may be spread out over time. On 23 July I headed off for a country walk, something I've done regularly all my life. This time, however, I was ambushed by cattle, resulting in 15 broken ribs, a broken wrist, and an airlift to hospital, where I remained for 2 1/2 weeks. I'm now back home, still on an array of painkillers, slowly recovering. I'll be off to both the doctor and the hospital tomorrow, for check-ups. I knew my wearing nappies full-time would intersect with the medical professions eventually, and wasn't expecting it to be a big deal. It wasn't, although the traumatic injuries were, of course, a very big deal. I set off on my walk in Tena pullup with an additional soaker, plastic pants, a onesie and shorts. My dummy was in my pocket. The paramedics who first reached me needed to cut my clothes off to assess my injuries, and were briefly baffled when they tried to remove what they assumed was a T-shirt. I was still conscious so explained I had continence issues. After that it was a bit of a blur. I was out of it on opiates and other painkillers by then, and in a lot of pain despite them. So it was into a helicopter and off to hospital. At some point a catheter went in - that was a first for me. I think they asked my permission first, but it was immaterial really - it had to be done. That catheter stayed in place for 2 weeks & gave me no trouble at all, apart from the tube getting twisted once. End of first post - I'm still in a fair bit of pain despite the painkillers. More to come...

All night? Yes. I've had a minor leak every few months, but that's it, and there's a waterproof undersheet on the bed anyway. Nothing's ever reached that as far as I can remember. I'm in a tightly pinned 4 ft terry square folded in the Chinese (butterfly) fold, with a couple of extra washable soakers, with Gary polyurethane pants over the top, & jamas. I'm a side sleeper. I'm still in last night's nappy now, in fact. Work.s a treat, and as babyish as you can get (for me, anyway).
-
Gary make polyurethane pants (Euroflex), available from LL Medico (& presumably elsewhere too). They are well-made, have a wide crotch, and are pretty much transparent. They are a bit noisy, but not a problem under clothes, in my experience. I've been wearing them continuously for the past couple of years, 24/7, over washable nappies. They are comfortable, and aren't affected by creams etc. I rinse them through daily in the sink, and so far the two pairs I've been wearing show no sign of wearing out. The elastic doesn't wick through to your clothes either. I'd have got through many pairs of vinyl or PUL pants in that time. These pants are soft in texture, like thin latex, and I find them very comfortable for long-term wear. They don't harden over time. They may look expensive, but because they are so hard-wearing they are working out to be pretty low-cost in the long run. I'd recommend them to anyone.

I don't control it at all. It just happens these days. That's where I always wanted to be. Not particularly fast, not particularly slow. I don't try to make it happen, and I don't try to stop it. Ever. Occasionally if I'm in the bathroom without a nappy on that means I have to head to the toilet quickly, but other than that it all works OK. Of course if I start leaking I keep on leaking, so I have to watch out when my nappy gets near to saturation point.
-
I shave down there regularly. It discourages bacteria, which live on hair, so it's more hygienic. And it's more babyish, which suits me better.
-
Yep, one of my daughters used to raid the Sudocrem, and I've no idea why. And I haven't used baby powder for years, but my old baby powder has migrated to the top of Mummy's chest of drawers, for some reason. Nobody else is wearing my nappies, as far as I'm aware.

My springer Binky has been with me for 12 years. He's been a great dog, full of character, and mad as a box of frogs. He's been ill and declining for the past year or so, and it got to the point where he could no longer walk or stand up without help. Yesterday I took him to the vet on a one-way trip. I was holding him until the end. Tears were shed. RIP Binky. Names have been changed to protect the innocent.

Mummy's away for a whole week, at a family wedding. She went away on Monday. I stayed at home because (1) somebody has to look after Binky (our doggy), who can't walk properly any more & is in no state to travel, and (2) I didn't want to go anyway. I can't stand big family get-togethers. Anyway, it left me a blank canvas to regress as much as I want, so I've been taking advantage. 1. I spent 24 hours with my hollow butt plug in. This is something I do only rarely, and I may stop altogether. It simulates lack of control pretty well, but since my control of no. 2 is no longer something i can take for granted now I've been in nappies full-time for so long, the one-time thrill of the simulation has largely been replaced by the day-to-day need to manage the risk of the real thing. And frankly I prefer the latter I think. It's more real, it's less high-tension, and let's face it I'm getting on a bit and the need for excitement is not what it was. Anyway this isn't the place for any messy details. 2. I've been wearing my cargo shortalls all week, rather than my usual cargo shorts. These shortalls are a home-adapted conversion from two pairs of cargo shorts, with an extra panel in the crotch with buttons there as well. Plenty of room for huge amounts of padding, without it being noticeable. Wearing shortalls always make me feel 2 years old. Out in public I've been wearing a top over my shortalls though - I haven't yet plucked up the nerve to show the world I'm in shortalls: although they do look pretty vanilla, they're still shortalls. 3. I've been experimenting today with adding extra cloth soakers to my usual terry square and 2 cloth soakers. This morning I added two more soakers. Turns out I could still pin the nappy up OK, and my plastic pants still fit over it too. After I put it on I couldn't get my knees less than 6 inches apart, and that baby feeling was turned up another notch. It's 5pm now, and still my knees have to be at least 4 inches apart. I've been waddling all day, including out shopping. My normal 2 soakers gets me through most days without having a nappy change. I'm probably going to up that to 3 now as a regular thing to see whether that reduces the risk of hitting saturation in the evening. 4. A few weeks ago I went to a littles event that was probably the biggest ever in the UK. I'd say there were over 200 people there. There were some vendors, including one with a new range of leather baby harnesses and reins. I first wore a harness decades ago, borrowed from Hazel Jones, and I just loved it. Being pushed around an event in a pushchair (that's a stroller to you US littles) is good, but being led around on reins is for me that much better. The harnesses were really well made, and although I'd told myself I wasn't going to buy one, in the end I just had to. And the lady on the stand strapped me into it. The one thing it needed, I thought, were some little bells, so I found some on Amazon. This week I added the bells - 5 sets of 3 little bells. And I've been wearing my jingling harness all week, pretty much, including going out shopping. Perhaps I've been taking a bit of a risk, but the harness has been covered up, under my top layer, over my onesie and shortalls. I've just had to take care not to jingle when I've been too close to other people. I still look pretty much vanilla. I've got half a plan to wear my harness for the next littles meet I'm going to next weekend. The buckles have got little metal loops on them that mean a small padlock will lock me into it. I'm hoping Mummy will lock me in before I go, leaving me unable to get it off until I'm back home again. I'll have to ask her nicely! So that's pretty much it really. I've been drinking a bit more milk than usual, from my bottle of course, and I'm writing this still in my shortalls and harness and a great big wet cloth nappy, with my dummy in its rightful place just under my nose. Couldn't be happier. Or littler.

...and I should add that I don't drink coffee, which probably helps.

Well my sense of smell has been comprehensively damaged by Covid, so I have to rely on Mummy to let me know. She hasn't said anything yet. My plastic pants give a very good seal though. I shower and wash my plastic pants daily, and wipe myself down with a flannel every change, but that's about all the precautions I take. Mummy's got her own continence issues as well, so I guess our standards aren't that high. The kids haven't said anything yet though.

Well I wasn't expecting my switch to wearing terry during the day would be so successful. Nearly 2 months, and I've been in terry squares virtually all the time. I'm planning to stay in terry nappies for good now. The addition of a couple of cloth soakers means that most days I can get through the whole day in the same nappy, just changing at bedtime and after breakfast. Sometimes my nappy gets too sodden in the evening, and then either I go for an early shower and change into my overnight nappy and my jamas, and sometimes I change into a thinner pocket nappy for the rest of the evening. That's just to keep the size of the wash down - our washing machine and drier can fit 4 terry nappies and 1 pocket nappy, but would struggle with more, and I wash them every other day. So far no embarrassing wardrobe malfunctions - the Snappi at the waist has stayed intact so far, and the pins at each leg opening have stayed in place. And I've been waddling around confidently. If anyone's rumbled me they've not said anything - probably nobody has noticed. I just take a bit of care around friends and family, as I always have anyway. I'm past caring if anyone else suspects anything. My nappies seem to be pretty unnoticeable. even in my summer wear of a onesie and cargo shorts. It helps that a 4 ft square in a Chinese fold give a very low front to the nappy on me. That's safe enough as far as leaks are concerned as I'm always pointing downwards, and the snug nappy makes sure it stays that way. As good as a chastity device, and I'd imagine a lot more comfortable!

Strange days indeed - a 24 x 7 experiment
Stroller replied to oznl's topic in Our Lifestyle Discussion
Oh yes. Unless it's today. And we've not moved house for 30 years, with no plans to move in the near future. My nappy collection would pale into insignificance in a move compared with my other half's collection of old clothes etc that haven't been worn for decades... -
I think oznl is probably right. I wash my nappies at 60C, on a full wash, and I use an anti-bacterial additive as well. 60C is recommended for babies' nappies, as far as I can make out. Admittedly I've never tried washing at lower temperatures or for a shorter wash. I don't think I'd risk it though.

Strange days indeed - a 24 x 7 experiment

Well, yes. I'd like to thank both of you for your company and support along the way. I was going that way anyway, I'm sure, but it's made a big difference to know I wasn't doing it on my own, and that there were the two of you with a similar approach and family situation doing pretty much the same. It's now 5 1/2 years since I went full-time during the day, and 4 years since I went into nappies full-time at night as well. I still just love it, and I can't believe I've never regretted it for a minute. -
Oh sorry - they looked like plastic to me in the photo. I use 3" pins these days - they're more robust than all the 2" ones I've used.
-
If she changes your nappies, then who's in control of nappy changes? If it's Mommy, then you shouldn't be deciding when you're changed, or what you're changed into. Who's responsible for making sure your nappy doesn't leak? Who decides when you can have snacks? Chocolate, sweeties etc? You shouldn't be helping yourself. Parental controls on your internet use, and on your phone. Hope you have a good time!
-
Thanks. I think I'd have to import those from the US - they're not on amazon.co.uk as far as I can see. I've been buying my pins from NappiesRUs here in the UK. 3" long, all metal with a locking cap. Not perfect, but they're strong and long enough. The dritz pins look to be a bit shorter, and I'm wary of plastic caps as they can fail without warning in my experience. Anyway, I'm stocked up now!
-
Yes, I've been surprised at the lack of chafing. The plastic-headed pins I was using were OK, but I had to look out for when the heads started to crack, & bin them before they disintegrated. I've now got a stock of metal-headed pins again though - they fail gradually and obviously, in my experience. First the paint starts coming off, then the head starts rusting, then it's time to bin them. I wouldn't want to change a terry nappy anywhere other than at home, somewhere private such as a hotel room, or at an ABDL event, where there's always a changing room or two, and everyone knows what you're up to anyway. I've changed disposables all over the place, including fields, woods, motorway service stations and cliff tops. I'm fairly slim, and that probably helps hide the bulges, or I like to think so. I don't worry about it much these days though - I just don't want to be in anyone's face about it. They can suspect what they like, but I guess nobody's ever rumbled me so far.
-
Ever since I went full-time into nappies I've been wearing terry nappies at night. I use 4ft terry squares, folded in the Chines fold, with an additional cloth soaker pad. This gives a big absorbent wodge of nappy between my legs, and it will easily last the night without leaking. I've always assumed this sort of set-up wouldn't really be practical for daytime wear. I can't get my knees together, and have to walk with a bit of a waddle. The nappy feels very bulky when I'm wearing it, so I've always assumed it would look pretty bulky from the outside too. But I like wearing terry nappies - that's what I was in when I was a real baby. So a couple of weeks ago I thought perhaps I'd give it a try for daytime wear. And guess what - they don't appear to be any more noticeable than the padded velcro nappies I was normally wearing during the day. I added a second soaker, which means I can usually get through the day until bedtime. They feel good, they're comfortable, they're babyish. I can only change into a terry nappy lying down, which means I can't change in most public toilets, but then I rarely do that anyway. So far I've been out and about walking the dog, doing the weekly shop, staying overnight in a hotel, attending an ABDL event last weekend, and in about an hour I'm off to my local hospital for a blood test. All this in a big terry nappy with a bit of a waddle, feeling little and feeling good. And nobody's going to notice. I've usually been carrying a couple of spare nappy pins and a Snappi just in case of catastrophic failure, but it's not happened yet (touch wood!). In a few weeks I'll be changing out of dungarees and into shorts for the summer months. I doubt I can get away with my terry nappies under shorts, but I'll give it a try anyway. Mummy will soon tell me if they're too obvious!
-
If your nappies will fit them, adding soaker pads will increase absorbency. Medical ones don't cost a lot.
-
Occasionally I'll clean one with hot water and a nail brush, if it's got a bit crusty. Once or twice I've boiled one. But generally they stay fine. That's all night every night and a fair bit during the day as well. I've usually got 2 day-to-day dummies on the go. One is on a strap for daytime use - it's nearly always dangling on its clip under my top layer of clothes, for easy access. That'll have to change soon when the warmer weather arrives, & then it'll be in my pocket when not in my mouth. The other is not on a strap & is for overnight. During the day it lives on my bedside table.

Strange days indeed - a 24 x 7 experiment
Stroller replied to oznl's topic in Our Lifestyle Discussion
Indeed. Me too. And as for wearing terry nappies at night, I always do, unless we're away on holiday or staying somewhere else that means no washing machine. We've just come home after a week away, with me in disposables. It was a big relief to pin myself into a dry terry nappy last night. I didn't have any night time leaks while we were away, and in face haven't had any for a long time. I suspect that may be in part due to using booster pads at all times, whether in cloth or disposables. A Betterdry and a booster kept the bed dry while we were away, but I always worry a bit when I overnight in a disposable. I suspect the booster cups my leakage area better than without, so reduces the risk of wee tracking along my skin to the outside world. Anyway, I don't exercise any control over my wetting these days. When my body says 'go' it just happens, on my side or not. I did have a leak while we were away, but only because I maxed out an Overnight one evening. I was on a wooden chair, so no harm done. And alcohol was involved - it was my birthday after all (2 again, if anyone wondered). Today I'm in a cloth nappy with 3 cloth boosters to celebrate being back in cloth. I should be OK till Mummy sends me to bed this evening.
