pctrasher Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 It seems like diaper wearing is almost becomming a fad now, slowly but surely. About a year ago there was almost no diaper related material on youtube, and now there's tons of it and some of it seems like it's shot by other people of the norm who didn't like diapers to begin with. And then there's the random news headlines involving diapers for convenience or coolness. And to top it off, there's that other post on another of the categories on this board quoting a magazine that said something about diaper wearing being 'in'. Then here's also the new 'diaperspace' website with TONS of members on it already....I mean seriously what other community has their own 'space' site where they can communicate just like on myspace. It's just so unreal. All that makes me wonder if the Ab/Dl community will be as well known, and thus as well respected as the Gay/Lesbian community. I doubt we'd be as high in members, but at this rate it does appear as though it's getting more and more well known. Anyway, anyone, post your thoughts in it if you want, I'm wondering what you all think about that.
messyman Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 When youtube came out there was a bunch of diaper stuff on it. Then it got banned. Then it came back. That explains that particular phenomenon. I think all kinky stuff becoming a larger part of the public conscious.
tris Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 This is true, America is leading the world in being more accepting of 'kink' and alternative lifestyles, such as ours. It's only a matter of time until we get an official spokesperson, kinda like the gays have Ellen and the fats have Rosie.

Anyway, anyone, post your thoughts in it if you want, I'm wondering what you all think about that. Given that BDSM hasn't made it there yet, I wouldn't put too many of my eggs in this basket. Personally I don't really care about people's perception of 'the ab/dl community'. I'm honestly more concerned with people being more open minded and sexually liberated in general. It's one thing for somebody to say "I'm okay with people who wear diapers", and an entirely different thing altogether for somebody to say "I'm okay with people expressing themselves". People becoming okay with the AB/DL community would only target an individual symptom of prejudice, not the cause. As an aside, I really don't like the idea of being part of an 'ab/dl community'. It seems divisive to me, much like the whole "Gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender community". I want to be a party of the larger community, the human community. I'm a human being who, for the most part, goes about my life as any other level headed human being would.

I'm a human being who, for the most part, goes about my life as any other level headed human being would. I agree with looking at people being more accepting of the sexual expression of ones self. As to your point that it will lead to prejudice, i disagree. (If thats' what you mean) Public discussion of sexuality has been opened wide with the Gay rights fight and AIDS. Here in Canada our Supreme Court has said it all right to have sex parties in public places (ie bars nightclubs, etc (restricted to 18 and over)). The club can even charge to enter but must not charge for sex. The determining cases were two montreal "Straight" swingers clubs. They were charged and it went all the way to the Supreme Court. Though straight clubs have been doing this for years with the occasional police crack down, gay club backrooms and bath houses were raided frequently. The resulting fight for our rights to enter and play in such places has been long but has lead to informing the public. Part of that education has come from harm reduction practices established to slow HIV infections. It has been generally accepted for years now that its a better opportunity to promote safer sex messages to people having this kind of "public sex" than to charge them. It wasn't an easy battle but it has won the day. The courts, largely based on changing community standards and individual rights, now accept sexual diversity between consenting adults in some places that are deemed "public". I would argue we are moving to a more accepting "community standard" at least in Canada, with respect to diversity. I can see that the use of diapers for sexual purposes being seen as weird as in BDSM. Diaper lovers will not be shunned if discovered. The larger community issue will be with AB's like myself. Tolerance will take time to develop. The internet is a great help in this effort. Youtube and other services are exposing all kinds of different sexual and divergences from societal norms. The more exposure, the more tolerance can develop. Canada's number one News Magazine recently (March 5, 2007) did a full page on Adult Babies. Have a look at the article here. The days of Jerry Springer "adult babies fight on stage" are diminishing. Progress is being made. Youtube and other internet/media resources are helping. I expect to have a program in place soon, funded by a government to conduct harm reduction (safer sex) programming within the AB/DL community. 10 years ago i would have been laughed at. So while we will see some "not so helpful" stuff on youtube that may make some of us wince, we will see many good things as well. I also seek the day when we are not seen as a member of a select community but as part of a larger human community. Its happening the GLBT world, it can happen for ours too. boy ricky ps you can find my youtube channel here Edited December 1, 2007 by boy ricky

rusty pins Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Maybe we could ask Lisa Nowak to be our spokes person!
Topguy Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 We are finally seeing the fruits of a sexual revolution that began back in the 60's. And the baby boomers are starting to need diapers-and there are huge numbers of them out there. Ya better not be dissin diapers when your dad and grand dad are sitting there in them. It won't be pretty.
boy ricky Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Boy Ricky, For a Toddler your pretty well spoken.. and well said.. I was pretending to be a big boy! Daddy says im pretty good at it but i better not do it too often or im in trouble!
Crumb Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 What are we fighting for? When you ask most ABs what they want chances are they'll say its 'acceptence'. It doesn't seem to me that you can actually pin point one goal in this greater fight for acceptence, except that they want to be 'accepted'. There are different forms of acceptence and no one seems to know what it is exactly. Is it acceptence that we wear diapers? I think most people accept that. Perhaps they don't agree with it but they accept it. Acceptence in terms of laws to protect us? I don't see this as the same fight that took place for gay rights. There's a huge difference. Being an adult baby is a lot different than being gay. For example; If a bus driver is gay s/he can be gay and still perform their job as a bus driver. An adult baby is not your character it is a behavior. It's more equivilent to being a smoker. If you smoke than that is something you choose to do regardless of the addiction aspect. You are not born a smoker and although some would argue that you are not born gay either being gay is part of your sexual identity. Either way you don't classify someone by whether or they smoke. You would probably be hard pressed to find a smoker who doesn't wish they could go into work and smoke in their office. Or smoke on the bus ride home, or smoke while doing their shopping. Even when you allow these freedoms to take place it still doesn't mean you are accepted. "America is leading the world in being more accepting of 'kink' and alternative lifestyles" I think its only in America that you have a fight to begin with. Most European countries are pretty open to the diversity of sexual expression. Even if you make a smaller goal of just gaining awareness it doesn't guarntee acceptence. I'm pretty sure people are aware of us. Helping them to understand that we don't mean any harm, and that we are decent people who want to contribute to society is totally different. I don't think we'll ever get there if all people see is a bunch of people dressed in baby outfits talking like toddlers and using diapers. A lot of AB's can't even laugh at themselves. In reality we are the one's who are not accepting. We can't see or accept that it really looks silly when you are an adult who wears diapers and dresses like a child. I don't think a greater understanding of ABs or DLs can come about until we work on the way we preceive ourselves. If we can not see ourselves for what we are and then accept it and understand the way people are seeing us, then we have no hope for anyone from the outside changing how they feel about it.
DailyDi Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 All I can say is the first time I see Paris Hilton in a diaper because "It's hot!" I'm outta here!

Yes. it does look absolutley ridiculous to an outsider. My kink as a Dl probably just looks sick to a lot too. But I accpet that it looks sick-and I don't shove it in people's faces. It's not that I am uncomfortable with it. It's that I realize that most people who aren't like me have a hard time understanding the attraction. People who go to the bathroom in thier pants are disgusting to the majority of regular people-even kinky ones. Go look at how little acceptance diaper fetishes have in "mainstream" bdsm for instance. It's the biggest "hard limit" in that crowd. Especially with the women. One reason that men who give grief to the women into diaper fetishes really piss me off. There are already so few-and they make it even fewer. I wish we could learn to get over our little fantasies enough to show each other some basic respect. It would be nice if the "baby all about me" sort of attitude could get toned down a little. It has to be about a bit more than that-if you want a relationship.
dogpiss Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Being a (ahem) corpulent gentleman (OK, fat), I deeply resent the comment about Rosie O'Donnel representing the fats! ANYONE, but her (for oh so many reasons). How about Louie Anderson? Sorry to rant, but I have to speak up on behalf of my beefy brothers and voluptuous sisters.
pctrasher Posted December 2, 2007 Author Posted December 2, 2007 OMG Louie Anderson was hilarious, he even got his own cartoon abot him as a boy... I think. Anyway, to follow up on my topic. I do have to admit that I'm comparing things that are not relevent to eachother in certian aspects. eg. gays vs Ab/Dls. But it a lot of ways I personally don't want all of this to be known as much as the gay community is, but it would be nice to wear a diaper or pacifier outside and everyone just kind of goes about their business without thinking "OMG, what does that person have in their mouth? A pacifier? That person is very strange!". But rather "oh, hey, an ab....lem'me get my camera to snap a pic"...j/k. Just something where people wouldn't think less of you for it. As far as diaper wearing goes, it's very discreet as it is (I just spent 3 hours outside in a half-wet-to-capacity Abena X-plus, working on my car in my parking stall to my apartment, and nobody even knew. But if someone did happen to see, they stare when you're not looking and gossip about you to their friend who is right next to them, and they laugh, and all is still good your pov, but from a birds eye view you're being talked about behind your back. And on a second note to that, if my friends ever found out, they would think less of me, not stop talking to me or hanging out, but no doubt they would joke and we would be a bit farther apart from eachother. So basically, with people knowing, life is a little bit worse than before; no doubt the sacrifice for the comfort of wearing wearing diapers/pacifier all the time. Basically it would be cool if it got to the point of where more people wear for convenience or to follow a fad in public since then it would seem like less of a taboo to wear in public or let out the knowledge of wearing in private. It might get to be common knowledge, or not, it really doesn't affect any of us. However it would be kind of funny to see highschool students walking around outside with a diaper over their pants or a crinkel under them if it ever did hit to be a real fad.
AbriForm Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 The advent of the disposable diaper is largely responsible for a lot of the growth. Those in the 80's that started to wear them in masses have grown up, and unlike cloth... it's much easier to grab a disposable diaper. When polled, ABDLs tend to prefer the diaper they grew up using, so now that disposable diaper-wearers have grown up... they're now much more able to acquire diapers that they have memories of using in the past. Bottom line: Yes, it is on the rise, and it's quickly climbed up the ladder of fetishes. Foot-related fetishes are at the top still, but age play fetishes are topping latex and other common fetishes. Doubt that? Run a few Google Trend searches and see for yourself... I expect within the next decade that age play will be established as one of the most common fetishes (#2 or #3... it's hard to rank them that closely).

Its coming on and the internet is responsible. I have an add on a gay site (not diaper or ab related) and i lots of guys say i never heard of that but are keen to change me!

Mworth Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 It is a crazy world outside, yes I will conceed that. But 'fad' status would seem both overly ambitious/hopeful and also some what undesirable. I am a young baby but I do remember the Jerry Springer treatment and am somewhat distrustful of the media in these matters. A couple of years ago here in the UK we had a bout of national hysteria over paedophilia. The newspapers printed the names and addresses of 'sex-offenders'. However their information was inaccurate and the mobs that formed did damage to th life and property of innocent pediatric doctors. You only have too look at the abundance of "NO THIS IS NOT PAEDOPHILIA" disclaim/warning labels within our community to realise that we CAN be misrepresented, we CAN be portrayed in a light which will not only be unflattering but downright dishonest. But I merely suggest we err on the side of caution. The reasons that we can be misrepresented are simple, we are relatively unknown and 'off the radar' further exposure by sympathetic press is a good thing for us since it makes general awareness higher. We are never going to be mainstream but this exposure helps us feel more confident about ourselves and remind us all that we are not so strange or out of the ordinary. Every one remembers the feeling of being "the only one in the world" and then finding the internet is this massive weight off your shoulder's moment. I think seeing ab/dl stuff in other media only furthers the sense of this being some thing acceptable, but only in the sense of acceptablilty to yourself. Its more real to see it in a magazine than on the net in a way. What is the point of society accepting us in some way when many ab/dl's don't accept themselves? It seems normal to be so afraid of embaressment and rejection that we don't tell even our closest loved ones. I have read opinions that you should wait untill you are asking a girl to marry you before telling her, or even after you tie the knot. Some people claim they didn't even tell their wife and now won't because they are seperated/divorced/dead/whatever. To be honest I couldn't care less what the editor of a magazine thinks about you, but I do hope that you have some one or a group of people around you who are both supportive and truly accepting of you. If some one really loves you then wearing a diaper now and again and even having them change you shouldn't be that big a deal (well poop yes thats a big deal!).
AbriForm Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Yes, getting over stigmas is difficult, and I doubt age play will become a "fad", but I think it will become mainstream amongst the fetishes (if it hasn't already). Even established businesses like Second Life have had to tackle age play, and while at first they were resistant and ignorant, even they have come full circle. My point is, conquering stigma is the first step to becoming acceptable... it's not a sign of trouble ahead more than part of the process.
