A week's worth of writing down the drain...

I got this alphasmart so I would have fewer distractions when I'm trying to write. And it worked so far. But now a week's worth of writing has gone down the drain because I tried to swap the batteries and I didn't realize the alphasmart would reset.

If you want to keep things from getting lost, back them up. It is a simple thing and if it isn't, you have the wrong technology. For instance, Google Docs are free and accessible anywhere you can get Internet.

As was already mentioned, always, always back up your work. Google docs is great, especially since you can access it from multiple sources.  If you just store it on your computer, I recommend a second back up source like a memory stick or the Cloud/ One Drive or something just in case your computer goes kaput.
