There is a way to disable, according to Firefox. Right-click anywhere on the page you're on and the little menu that pops up will have an option called "View Page Info". Select the "Permissions" tab and the third-to-last selection is "Show Notifications". Remove the default select and mark block, and you're all good! :D

Saw the notifications in action today and I like them.... Got a small gray box on my screen letting me know I had a new follower.

So instead of having a way to see all the new content posted on the forums, I have to go to each forum and look. The problem ain't Firefox or I'd be having problems elsewhere and I'm not. The notifications pop-up reappeared again today, and again I had to reset it manually.

Someone is driving the bus off the cliff.

I just made a custom Stream for unread Topics only, shows me all the new forum contents without the blogs/images/etc

No, it displays newest first, which is how I like it anyway
