ECT Therapy

So lately my depression has been getting the better of me. So my head doc recommended ECT (shock therapy) at first I thought of poor old Jack Nicholson in the movie One Flew Over The Cucoo's Nest.

The heck? They still do that stuff? I thought we left the idea of using electrocution to cure mental disorders in the past.

I have been reading the wiki article and a few other things for it, still pretty sure if given the choice (as in the past many weren't) that I would turn it down or at least only go for it in a last ditch type thing.

The only thing though is that there is some memory loss when you undergo the procedure.

Well to be fair, I think I read that people who do this are 1 in 1,000,000, it would be pretty unlikely (albeit not impossible) that someone here does it too!

I've seen it done before while I was in nursing school, and it's a lot more common than you think.

This was discussed when I started Therapy for my depression. I was told it's something of a "last resort" but if it works then that's all that matters.

Please don't think I'm making light of your condition Brudda....but I'm curious.....did you wake up wet?

A couple times I have woken up wet. Around 33% of the time if I had to call it something.

For folks worried that ECT is cruel or anything it's not it's still a legitimate treatment but to my understanding only really used for people who have depression due to chemical issues in the brain rather external issues.
