If you do not wish to hand code and do not have FireFox then get FairyWand which has setups for the best freeware for this kind of thing PageBreeze, Filezilla FTP, IrfanView FastStone, and iWebAlbum and others in the form of setups.exe in a large zip file. I have either used or tried them all except for Thingamablog, which is blogging software

I will stay with cloth and rubber panties. the security is watertight. Even Edward Snowden could not find a leak. and there is no gauze for concern once you get a bird'seye view of how it works

I been programming in wordpress the past few months, is pretty awesome with TONS of support. Only downside is it can be really annoying when trying to run scripts in it.

I'd also recommend the Wordpress software that DailyDi has pointed out. I actually prefer their alternative to Blogger for freely hosted material, and the version that's meant to be self-hosted is insanely powerful and very customizable.

If you do not know anything about webpages use the FairyWand PageBreeze, it is both WYSIWYG and HTML builder and you can switch back and forth

The advantage of making your pages or site at home then ftp'ing it up to the host server is that you have a master copy at home in case something goes wrong

You will need to learn about Domain Name Servers. But that is mostly pointing them and .com .net .us etc and paying for them
