have heard mentions of these original baby pants from the 40's... well look what came in the mail today to be the new exhibit in the diaper museum:

I've seen ads from the 50's for them, so they were around.

Haven't measured them yet, but they seem very big for babies or even toddlers, so guessing super-large was their discreet way of selling to parents of bedwetters and other young kids who still needed them.

I saw an ad for thise online in a 1952 issue of LIFE

I first saw the real thing in 1971. The last I saw of t hem was in the mid-1980's. whein I got some for one of my dolls

Now all we need are Playtex and Regency I saw the latter in the late 199's. Like Empire,, they were made of smooth material. They had a very wide crotch but I have not seen them since. There was another company :Baby-Mate that made two kinds the smooth thick material and a grainy kind that came in colors. They were carried in the New England company Adams/Brookes. I last saw them in the middle 1980's

I have some Playtex in my collection, and also just got the original fruit of the loom ones

Yes, they were around until the the early 70's. The suuper size were very large, bigger then gerber todler size at the time. And yes they were used by parents for bedwetting older children. I seen kids from 4 up up wearing them. My mother babysat kids for a living when I was grwoing ups and was quick to diaper a kid no matter the age at any hint of wetting or pooping in their clothes. So I seen kds of all ages in them. Most of them were boys but there was a few girls. Including my brother until he was 9, and 3 of my male cousins until the oldest was in his late teens.

Does anyone have any of the old Bittner rubber pants? I remmber them in a dark blue tube and they didn't last long

I do not like to croos-post but it seems we have two of these threads

I would like to know more about the Plalytex like what the material is like etc

why not put pix and descriptions of these relics of a bygone day in the Museum (you can get a template of a review page from my "Big List" which is organiuzed in souch a way as to make it easyto use: Fill in the relevant parts and delete the Irrelevant and you are set)
