Yvhuce
At first, I thought this might be a fluke. However, it's happened twice to me (and once to someone else) in the topic Addicted. The board has added all sorts of random tags to the following URL (I have not added any tags to this; any that show up are an example of the board bug at work): http://www.Amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B002NL883K/ecnadmedia-20"]Amazon/Lots-Baby-Sound-Alarm-Pacifier/dp/B002FE85D8/ref=sr_1_37?ie=UTF8&s=apparel&qlEnable=1&qid=1281746847&sr=1-37 This is not the only URL that has been mangled. Prior to that one, I had posted a link to something else in another section of the forum and it had some screwy tags also applied to it. If the topic shows up mangled, it's the "Addicted" topic in the "Our Lifestyle" section. Link to comment
BBB
It is most likely because of the word Amazon in the web address as the board auto-corrects it to be a link so the site can generate a little revenue Link to comment

Darkfinn
IMO advertising is going too far when it begins to insert itself into people's posts. I realize the 'net is 99% commercial these days... but we really need to draw the line somewhere. 2 Link to comment

Darkfinn
Pinko Commie! I fail to see how objecting to unwanted advertising and more ever present commercialism makes me a Communist. 2 Link to comment
DailyDi
So you'll be sponsoring the board so we can do away with ads then? Link to comment
Guest NaughtyAshes
I fail to see how objecting to unwanted advertising and more ever present commercialism makes me a Communist. Well, I was joking. But the crux of the joke is that any opposition to free enterprise and competition (i.e. limiting advertising) is communist in nature. Especially via the perspective of the current fox news driven, tea bagger culture. One which often pervades the abdl community unfortunately. Link to comment
Darkfinn
So you'll be sponsoring the board so we can do away with ads then? You mean all the porn subscriptions and phone-a-mommy calls don't generate enough income? ADISC and Fetlife are both huge community boards. ADISC has no advertising and Fetlife's adds are limited to a very minimal column down one side of the page. I don't have a big issue with advertising itself... these days it is a necessary evil. All I'm saying is that a line should be drawn when parts of individual member's posts get turned into advertisements without the poster's consent. We keep going down this road and soon enough every time someone types the word "diaper" it will turn into an add for Bambino or ABU. 1 Link to comment

I for one, find fetlifes advertising to be really tasteless, glaring, and gross. I know they are a BDSM site, but their adds are essentially violent and disfiguring anatomy lessons sometimes and generally really squick me out. Here at DD, at least on the forum, (I don't visit the actual porn site we are connected to) the phone sex banner add, amazon.com, or medical supply add is all pretty meek, mild, and easy on the eyes. DailyDi
I too find disturbing many of the ads on Fetlife - though I tolerate them to be able to use the site. As a webmaster I know how hard it is to find "adult-friendly" sponsors that aren't hardcore porn. They also charge a minimum of $30 for members to be able to view videos - something we offer free in addition to thousands of photos. Adisc is a fine board - but does not offer the variety of content we do and thus have almost no resource and hosting costs. The fund-raising goal implies a monthly cost of $110 - which is likely inflated - and still a third of our base hosting cost alone, let alone all our expenses. This forum does not operate as a stand-alone business, but as a part of the DD Community. And no, we don't get a cut of the Phone A Mommy calls, they pay a base rate for the ad space and keep their revenue. This is also true of many of the pay sites we advertise. Link to comment
sarah_ab
who is this "we" you speak of? This is DD's site, and he can do as he see's fit... there is no "we" ... its just him and his decisions... which i greatly respect... except when he doesn't give me cookies..... Link to comment

Yvhuce
I have to agree with Darkfin, on the whole "the board inserting links into your posts" thing is going too far. It's got to be a violation of free speech or something... Especially when it does so in a manner that completely mangles what you're trying to post... I was simply trying to share something nifty with people, and the infernal thing went and turned it into a train wreck of multiple tags and fragments of the origional address (and scattered bits and pieces of the origional message from the link tag button thingy)... 1 Link to comment
