What Could Cause This Problem?

Recommended Posts

I have a question thats been bothering me a lot lately. What could cause a relatively healthy 20 year old to start having messy accidents? I do not poop my diapers by choice so it's not that my body is getting retrained(at least i don't think it's that) the problem is i just suddenly find myslef going and i can't stop it no matter how hard i try. I'm taking chlorrophyll to counteract the smell but it's still embarassing to do that in public. what could be causing this?(my mom does have ibs so is it possibly that? does that get passed down???)

"IBS" is probably an imbalance in your diet. Are you like a typical American? 2 or 3 greasy fast food meals every day?

Watch what you eat... get some vegetables and the proper amount of water (NOT SODA)and things will straighten out.

Lots of things could be wrong, anything from lazyness, over a mild infection to cancer, go see adoctor about it, you might be just fine but it's better to be safe, and he might even be able to help you..well noabout the lazyness but taht's another story.

It could be an infection that will pass, some change in your diet that isn't agreeing with you, or even a parasite you picked up from who knows where. I agree with the others, this is abnormal enough that you need to check in with your doctor!

See your doctor. Colon/rectal issues almost cost me my life! I suffered for years until I found the right doctor. I was loosing blood and it was a scary experience.

Babyfur,

the most common reason for sudden bowel weakness is usually a change in ones diet. Other items that can cause this is an allergic reaction / side effect to medication. Since you have not mentioned medication in your post, I can presume that your medication hasn't changed.

The problem is that you are allergic to something within your diet. This occurs when an item you normally eat has a 'new recipe' or 'new flavour' etc, where the manufacture have changed the ingredients.

For the skeptics here, infections that can cause bowel looseness ALWAYS are associated to cramping and stomach problems. Since Babyfur hasn't mentioned same, it is highly unlikely that an infection is the source of his problem.

A visit to a Doctor, and a follow up with an allergy specialist is advised.

Darkfinn, a dietary imbalance self rectifies within 24-48 hours, as do infections. You may not like the way the body handles this - vomiting and diarrhea - but the source is forced out.

  • 2 weeks later...

I had a somewhat similar situation the other day. Driving home and I knew I needed to go. I farted (no big deal), and then sitting at a red light (rather uncomfortably as I knew I needed to go right away), and blammo!

Yuck.

If you suddenly find yourself messing without control and it's not normal, see a damned doctor. Something serious like this may seem slightly erotic to some, but it sounds like there is a very bad underlying medical issue at hand.

If I had normal bowels and almost overnight found that I am messing myself uncontrollably all the time, I'd see a doctor.

After I padded up first. Look on the bright side: maybe you'll have a legit reason to be stinky!!!

IBS is a "catch all" type diagnosis, means simply the doctors don't know what's really wrong so to get funding they make up a disease for it. There is the extreme possibility that it's all in your head, which is not a bad thing so don't gasp. ;) There are some psychological effects on one's automatic functions, such as you mention having "accidents", a strong desire to do this can over ride your control of these. However, I wouldn't want to be unsure if I was you (I have the scar to prove that's a bad idea), go to the doctor and have them perform tests, just to be certain, not just one test either like so many think is all they need (my gallstones were not detected because all the doctors did was CT scans until one got a brilliant idea of checking something "new" and gave me a sonogram, can't spell it so forgive me). As for the IBS diagnosis, never except that, not going into details of why you shouldn't but I will recommend not taking any medication without also learning what it is, does, and how it works for yourself first. Hope that helps, but if they really don't find anything wrong then likely you will have to retrain yourself, a hard task but possible.
