  1. I've said it before, but your results are NOT typical of what has happened under Barrack Obama. Since Obama was elected in 2008, manufacturing has been mostly running scared (I read the ISM numbers, which are better to analyze than the Department of Labor, and I talk to people in the industry, since I work in it) and mostly been either trying to replenish or beat whatever Obama and/or Congress can do to get their products out to beat another crash. This running scared has cost me a great entry level job in manufacturing which was paying pretty well for the amount of experience and the area I live in. I now work for a scumbag company that is run by Democrats that proudly voted for Obama and lie to us, hold down our wages (I make about 20% less than I did in 2008 and in real dollars, am at about my early 2007 pay scale). I was able to buy a house because of Obama's rebate plan, but now things have gotten tight (even though we borrowed far below what we were eligible to borrow) because inflation is far outpacing increases in pay (I actually haven't seen a raise in over 18 months, and I know there are people who have been longer without one). Government jobs aren't even safe - I had a relative who had to fear losing one in another state, but they tested and were able to move into another position. I had another relative lose a good paying sales job they had for many years because they restructured the company when GM and Chrysler went south (they did the restructuring slowly and he was one of the last to lose his jobs and was too late to move into one of the new positions created because of that). It took almost 2 years for them to find another job. The student loan thing has put my wife's student loans in the hands of Sallie Mae, who bungled half of everything with my student loans (and I was so glad that when I paid my loan off, I didn't have to deal with them again - looks like I was wrong). And I am tired of this phony "War on Women". Obamacare is more of a war on people than words (and even if there were any, bills that wouldn't pass the Senate, for sure) could truly ever be. Forbidden, the facts are that it was a Senatorial candidate who (rightfully) defeated soundly who made those comments. It was not a full Republican Party endorsement as the leftist media makes it sound. Also, with the way the Primary system works, the candidate was picked at the time they could be picked. The Democrats will have to face the same issue in 2016 (and they don't have anyone good at the moment, so the door for the Republicans is wide open). Obama wasn't primaried at all (even though he was in the same position as Bush in 2004 - weak President with no real vision and chasing too many shiny objects). And Sarah, no one was lying as much as no one could figure out what the turnout was going to be. Both sides had models that didn't pan out and were incorrect, but were slightly closer to the Democrats. And, for the record, I voted Gary Johnson, because neither Obama nor Romney are good enough to even hold my jock strap.
  2. 23, it's when I finished college and had plans in place to move forward with my life. I had been working for a few years before then, but never felt like an adult until I was done going to school.
  3. RoyalDane, Florida is the co-butt (along with Texas and Ohio) of a segment called OTF where the radio hosts find crime stories and people try to guess which of the three states the story comes from. Seems Ohio, Texas, and Florida all get some whacky stuff going on there.
  4. First, I want to say, that after doing it twice in slightly over a week, Ohio sucks as a state to drive through, especially if you are going across northern Ohio. Boring, and too much road work, though the Turnpike having a 70 MPH speed limit is nice. Second, if people knew how to drive properly, we really would not need a speed limit. The right lane is for driving, the left lane is for passing. If everybody knew when they had to move out of people's way and how to properly do it (like I do, and it may sound cocky but it is true), and when to start and finish a pass (again, like I do), people would be able to go almost any speed and be alright. And going 70-75 in most of Indiana and Ohio, I was getting BETTER gas mileage despite everything I had to carry in my car for the trip than I ever can going 55-65 and unloaded.
  5. Rockies, it's from "Family Guy" "Milk, Milk, Lemonade, Around the corner, Fudge is made."
  6. Except the fact the Supreme Court got it wrong. Forcing everyone to buy something is not a power that is afforded to Congress, so it truly is Unconstitutional. The state can (think car insurance), but the federal government cannot. And Brian, I get 20% taken off the top. You cannot tell me that with a sales tax of 8.75% on all purchases, I am only paying 30% in taxes when you add in the property tax, school tax, utility tax...
  7. I feel like I am not in the majority in this thread as I am also somewhat smallish but I have no problem using more than an entire diaper. No tricks, no moving around. I wonder if the volume of how much you pee has something to do with it. Because I can fill up a Molicare pretty easily and more than half fill an L4 in one wetting, and use every square millimeter of capacity in lesser diapers.
  8. I had to hunt a little to get it, but I found the free preview of it. That would be awesome if it happened in the real world, but given the high visibility and popularity of cheerleaders, I doubt it really would.
  9. The problem is that most DL's would host their site on a free host, which have 2 problems: 1) some of them have shut down their webhosting and 2) free hosts generally don't like ab/dl sites. And yes, people do bore with posting to blogs about diapers as much as any other people eventually bore of posting to their blogs.
  10. Pontiac Vibe - It's a Toyota Matrix with Pontiac badging and slightly different styling. Both cars were made in California in the now defunct NUMMI project. And leg room is no problem - I have a friend that is 6' 5" who fit in it with no problem at all.
  11. Nice to know I was just a few miles from Love Canal last night Love Canal is the basis of a weekly segment on Buffalo morning radio called "the Niagara Falls Police Blotter" because the chemicals dumped into Love Canal got to the locals brains and their crimes are of the "special" variety. Back on topic, the reason for mudslinging is because no one can fully run on anything positive. Whether it is having a mixed or bad record (Obama's record is mixed at best compared to what he is aiming to achieve), your percepstion (Romney), a combination of both, or whatever reason, you have to highlight the bad parts of the other person, even if it means embellishing to get the point across. Right now in history, we don't have a political system where the best ideas win. We have 2 sides where idealogues of varying degree stonewall each other if politically expedient. Neither side is willing to work with the other, and both sides are currently playing political games and the losers are the people. Since January, 2001, we have had an all-Republican (read - majority) controlled government, Democrats in Congress with a Republican President, an all-Democrat controlled government, and now we have a mixed bag with Democrats controlling the Senate and White House and Republicans controlling the House. Guess what - NOTHING HAS WORKED! Mudslinging is used to hide these issues (because as I mentioned earlier, no one in politics can truly run on anything positive), and so they can broad promises about what they would do differently (I'll lower taxes but won't tell you how, or I will cut spending and not tell you how). You know politicians will not state how they contributed to stonewalling the other party, or how Republicans could only say "NO" to everything for 2 years because Democrats wouldn't let them to the table (and the inverse would also hold if the opposite were to happen). So, revert to the lowest common factor, throw in some broad promises you really can't keep, and you have a political ad.
  12. 1 year in jail? Shouldn't this be classified as child abuse and a felony? 30-50 people saw it, probably people she goes to school with, and she probably will never be able to escape the name calling and anything else that she will probably get from her peers. And the one idiot that commented on the article supported this "shock treatment". Idiots.
  13. We build components for machines for the coal mining industry (among others including oil fields and "green energy" and more I don't even know where the final product is used). According to ISM, it's something like 32 or 34 months growth in manufacturing. And it actually doesn't feel like it, except a few venodrs say they are busy. You're right about the social agenda. I'm actually sick of hearing about it (and here is where I deviate from conservatives). I'm sick of hearing about how gay marriage ruins the sanctity of marriage or it threatens heterosexual marriage (my wife and I agree our marriage isn't lessened or threatened because homosexuals can marry). I'm sick of hearing about the Trayvon Martin case (if Zimmerman was told not to chase him, it's murder, if Zimmerman shot him in the back, he shouldn't have any standing under the Stand Your Ground Law and it's murder as someone running away from you is not threatening you at that time). I'm sick of hearing about Sandra Fluke (and I'm waiting for someone ACTUALLY a conservative to answer my question above which is hard to explain the logic behind it when I am waiting for that answer). Abortion isn't the issue right now (I'm against abortion itself but am Pro-Choice based on the fact that what you do is between you and your Higher Power or moral code) that needs to be addressed. All 535 members of the House and Senate need to work on the economy right now. It has to come first. If our economy fails, it doesn't matter where in our current political spectrum we are, because we will either end up under a dictatorship or with anarchy. And Ed Schultz is more relevant because he has similar outlets as Rush. Comparing a radio talk show host to another is comparing apples to apples more than a mid-day talk show host to a late night cable comedian (even if Schultz has a TV show). But Schultz' appologies must not be sincere as he continues to toe the line of decent (even on his noon eastern radio show). And yes, radio would be better without them both. And Cuomo is a Democrat. I'll admit his name struck fear in my area (as the people I know remember his dad as Governor of New York State), but he is doing some great things for us and his record is speaking for itself here.
  14. RDB, Olbermann is probably done in media because he has "left" under not so great circumstances from 3 major media players - Disney (ESPN), Fox (FOXSports), and NBC (MSNBC). Limbaugh isn't hurting the party right now, but he is a polarizing voice right now, which is hurting the country. I listen to both Limbaugh and Schultz for a short period of time on my lunch break, and both are sickening right now. Also RDB, even I can't take your contribution to the debate seriously because of your liberal (no pun intended) use of "Marxist" and "Communist" to describe Obama. Leilin, you're blinded too much by your liberal beliefs that you take anything that you don't agree with as being wrong and anyone who doesn't agree with you as a Republican hack. You actually haven't proven I have ignored facts. You also haven't proven I'm willing to let anyone get away with more. If you reread, I called Limbaugh "obnoxious and loud" and gave Maher more leeway because he is on latenight cable instead of broadcast over the air during the day. If anything, because of the outlet, I'm letting Maher get away with more. RDB, I'm going to give you a chance to show you can add something positive to this thread. What is it that has the right all worked up about Sandra Fluke wanting birth control covered under her school's insurance? I have a theory, but I want to see what someone farther right has to say and see if maybe my theory is correct (which, my theory would be more correct based on a "wrong answer" given here, LOL). And I think I found my 2016 candidate (and someone I would break one of my general voting rules for) - Andrew Cuomo.
  15. You're actually backwards on that but that's to be expected because Priebus isn't out there as much as Limbaugh (nor Steele, but he's known for the wrong reasons). I thought Michael Steele was the head of the RNC (who would be the actual head of the Republican Party). Limbaugh is an opinion leader and recognized (and admitted) conservative, which would get him speaking engagements for the Republican Party. And an honorary title in 1994 doesn't mean he is an actual politician. It just means he has been recognized for his loud, obnoxious voice for their side. Schultz wouldn't be asked to speak for the DNC because he would make the party look bad. He would slip and start going on about this ideal Socialist agenda he would like see implemented. And my Schultz comment was really a separate thing that somewhat paralleled the topic of things people with media outlets are saying that are undesirable and stupid. Secondly, to be a party hack I'd have to be arguing for the party instead of just pointing out gross errors. And it doesn't matter what you or anyone else thinks, it only matters what I say when I put my ballot in the ballot box in November and the PotUS spot will not be filled in next to the D or R because, quite honestly, both parties are just crap and I have other choices (I live in New York state, we haven't figured out electronic voting yet and use these ugly, antiquated machines where I haven't figured out how to write in a vote yet, but 2012 will be my second PotUS election in this state). And until we can get a Democrat who can truly embrace true growth in manufacturing, they are the greater evil directly to me. I'm going to give my real life example. I have worked for one company run by a liberal and one run by a conservative. One (company #1) offered better pay, did things to the book, offered better benefits, and put me on a clear, forward moving path. The other has lousy pay, bad benefits (which thankfully they pay mostly for), derailed my career, and is stuck 50 years in the past. Company #1 was the one run by conservatives and the other, who I currently work for, is run by liberals. And like I said, both sides are crap that are mostly just as bad as each other.
  16. Yeah, there is no $2.50 per gallon in the United States anymore. And our higher pharma costs are also due to the fact the richer countries are paying the R&D of drugs, so we are subsidizing failure as well as success that other countries are not.
  17. I don't have a party, nice try. I'm registered as unaffiliated. And when do they truly go with him? Rush doesn't have much love for a lot of the Republicans in Congress, doesn't see them as strong enough to go against Obama and the Democrats. And I will have to find it, but Ed Schultz even said on his radio show either yesterday (Monday) or last Friday that he has no problem if Obamacare is unconstitutional, he hopes we move to socialized medicine. I can't remember the comment totally, but Schultz is close to outing himself as a Socialist. And titular =/= actual.
  18. Alexandra, you are wrong, Rush is not a politician. Jason, Rush does not speak for the Republican Party. He just has a bigger voice and uses it (quite loudly, in fact), which is perceived as him being the leader of the party. Rush was wrong to call Fluke a slut, he doesn't seem to have a grasp over alternative uses for birth control (I believe the right-wing talkers were equating birth control with contraception, such as condoms, etc., because that is the only way that mistake can be made without being dishonest about it). TBlazer is right - the way your comments are aired dictates on what levels you can take your comments to - Maher can get away with more because of being on HBO.
  19. Finally, someone who said what needed to be said in a manner that doesn't come across as snarky or holier-than-thou. Both sides have been at fault for years, but too many people cling to political ideology thinking their side's ways will make it better. Really, I haven't felt the last 2 PotUS were up to the job, and both have turned out to be the worst I have seen. I'm not old enough to remember Clinton's years well enough to make a judgment, but the worst I can think of about him is that he had inappropriate sexual relations in the Oval Office. To me, so what? He seemed to be a moderate who seemed to be what I am looking for in a candidate - someone who doesn't cling just to the D by his name on the ballot as a source of pride. Ideally, I'd like to see a PotUS who truly is fiscally responsible, but understands the fine line between what business needs to grow and succeed with low taxes for all, and what social programs we need for our country to grow. And for the argument, I know Canadians (quite a few) and I haven't heard anything fully positive about socialized medicine.
  20. He is not that good unless he has top notch talent on his defense. Look at the players the Patriots had on defense until the past few years and that is why his defenses were so good.
  21. The problem with "green" energy is that the left wants to crash right into it when the correct move is a transition into it. For now, we need to open up oil and drilling so we can bridge the gap with our own resources. That is what Obama and the left aren't doing, and that is why "green" energy won't take off - because it can't fill our needs at once like it's being sold as being able to do. Once "green" energy catches up with traditional energy, you can scale back on the traditional energy in favor of "green" energy. And public sector growth isn't the best it doesn't fully trickle down and recycle back around. Yet that is being pushed too.
  22. He did re-up roving wiretaps and the "Library Records Provision". The Patriot Act didn't make me feel better about anything, that's for sure.
  23. Wow, I am shocked by the fact that Kitten can make one logical post (about both political sides being as bad as the other) and her next post is out in left field to a point where I can't even comprehend what the point is. Homophobia will not be made worse or better because of government intervention unless the government puts out propaganda that is against homosexuality and it is right to commit violent acts against homosexuals. All the government can do is make laws protecting homosexuals and educate the people on the reality that your sexuality is not a choice you make.
  24. Ignoring the first part of your post... Right thought, except I don't think that this is the right thread for it. In government, both sides are working to one-up the other (hence why I only once voted major party in an election and it was the California recall election of 2003, but that was on the candidates qualifications only), and both sides are represented by the extremists of their party. Also, you might want to work on how you word things. Even if you disagree with what people say, you're going to get more respect in a debate if you don't come across as a troll.
